Let’s start with the good: The staff is exceptionally trained, polite and efficient - that’s the best thing the Shilla has going. On to the 2019 reality: * VERY overpriced for what you get. * It’s palatial and loud and echo-y with lots of hard surfaces, old uncomfortable furniture - both in the public spaces and in the guest room - and the hotel is in desperate need of a paint-job, both inside and out. * Also stayed in the “new building” which felt old. * Absurd, insulting prices on food and beverages - equal to New York City prices - in Korea?? A latte? $US 14. A mediocre lunch salad? $US 30. One meal here confirmed we would not dine here again during our stay. Two night’s stay here for $US 900. Ugh. Need I write more?

If You like to rest peacefully at Your hotel stay away ! Located on the coast, tucked in between a handful of other similar resorts, there is basically nowhere to go, unless You go by car. All surfaces in the hotel are glass, marble or other kinds of stone that all serve to spread every noise made all over the hotel. The lobby is open over several floors, which means that the live music present most of the afternoon and evening can be heard everywhere. If You venture outside there is a liveband by the pool, just to make sure Your ears never get to rest. As a consequence of the location all meals have to be had in one of the hotel restaurants, which are all very noisy and overpriced. The live music from the lobby can be heard even in the deepest corner of the restaurants, there is simply no escaping. The breakfast restaurant is like an enormous highway cafeteria. The rooms are OK, but terribly warm. Room temperature was generally above 25 centigrades. As it was winter the airconditioning was turned off, so the only option was opening the door to the balcony, which immediately sent loud music into the room. If You speak Korean service is probably fine, but 95 percent of the staffs english language is limited to 'yes sir', 'no sir', sorry sir. regardless of the sex of the recipient. But if You come as a family with young children the Shilla is probably fine. There is a high chair at every table, and tons of cute korean kids running around everywhere.

We stayed in The Shilla Jeju hotel 5 nights. This place is the best in Jeju. Yes, it is not cheap and not very new, but it has one of the Best Services in a country. The staff is very professional and helpful. A lot of kids activities indoor and outdoor. The food is perfect!!! Very good room service, very clean and well organized. Thanks a lot for hard work.

So crowded on weekdays. Located right in front of Jungmun saedal beach. Only few minutes from the hotel to beach by car. Hotel facilities are really old but in good condition. Lots of activities to enjoy in the hotel itself. High quality of service.

We stayed here during our Jeju Island stay. As far as hotels go, it was pretty nice and that is reflected in the price of the rooms. The rooms were adequate and the staff was adequate. There was nothing special or unique about this hotel, but there was also nothing very lacking either. I'd heard a lot about it before going and was expecting more, but there you have it. Sort of high-end middle-of-the-road, I guess. The restaurants were quite nice but that was also reflected in the price of our meals (very reflected, if you know what I mean). So basically I got what I paid for, but what traveler doesn't want to be pleasantly surprised?
