The rental car co. Hertz still has one of their properties listed at 40 Lodge St when you perform a Google search for their Albany locations. Having made my way to what I thought was one of their locations (turns out they recently closed that location during the pandemic) I figured out the hard way that that Hertz location no longer exists. Leaving me with a need to create a new travel plan to Western, New York, where I was hoping to view a parcel of land before purchasing it. Which led me to check into the Hilton that also shares that address, 40 Lodge Street, as my motivation was to get somewhere asap to get settled and solidify a travel plan. I am mentioning all of this to say that I was an impromptu walk-in to the Hilton. The woman at the front desk quoted me a one night rate of $299. That seemed really, REALLY high but I wasn’t in any position to question it, I just needed to get up to a room and get on my laptop. After checking in and getting up to my floor, I went to Albany Hilton’s website to add my Hilton Honors points to my current stay, and their site showed that the room that I was checked into was actually $231 for the night, which is nowhere near what I was paying at $299. Also, for some reason she checked me into a double room when there were plenty of single Kings available! I clearly was not in need of a double, as I was traveling solo, checked in solo, and indicated to her that I needed a room for me and only me. Not me and some imaginary buddy. I thought that all of this was strange, but it get even weirder folks. So fine. I’m sitting at the desk in my room looking at Hilton’s website with plenty of available rooms for nearly $100 less than what I am paying to stay here, and I check 3rd party websites too, who ALL have the lower rates - not one of them lists Hilton as having rooms priced at $299/night. I call down to the front desk to mention that hey, something is a little bit off about this, and she transfers me to Tara in sales, who mentions to me that though I only just checked in 20 minutes prior, that the rates fluctuate from minute to minute. I’m sitting on my cell phone quiet, thinking to myself that Tara must think I was born just yesterday (I couldn't call from my hotel room phone because the phone didn't work.) She puts me on hold, mentions something about speaking with a manager, and comes back to offer me a rate of $249 rather than the $299 that I was quoted upon checking in. Which is fine by me - it’s better than paying nearly $100 more than what everyone else is paying! But it still wasn't even the price that they were advertising for the room that I was in on their website! Just unbelievable. Finally, after getting to my phone calls, emails, more phone calls, etc. - all settled, I take a good look at the room that I’ve checked into, and the bed sheets appear to be the same bed sheets from the previous guests! ON BOTH BEDS! You can’t make this up. The beds had not been changed over, they had merely been tucked in with the stains still on the sheets in full view of anyone who was paying attention. Which happened to be ME OF COURSE. Not just one bed, but BOTH beds had stains on the comforter and the sheets. * sigh * So I had been checked into a dirty room. This, for $299/night. How could I be so lucky? I go to my TripAdvisor account to check their rates for the night’s stay, and they have a link that says that Hilton will price match lower rates, guaranteed, for Hilton Honors members. Yeah, no. Clearly that is not anywhere near reality, they won’t even price match their OWN rates on their own website! I didn’t complain about the sheets because it was clear that there was something malicious right beneath the surface going on here, something that was rooted in a deeper cause, and believe it or not, I decided to just sleep in my sleeping bag ON TOP of the stained bed comforter. $299 a night for this! The next morning, 10:30AM, I am on a phone call, housekeeping knocks on the door, I yell out “No thank you!” and she barges into the room anyway and asks me if I am checking out. Wait, WHAT? What kind of housekeeping person are you that that is your business??? I honestly can’t believe the lack of hospitality at this place, it was like a Hilton Haunted House of Horrors. Bad things just kept happening over and over no matter how hard I tried to escape it, the Hilton Albany seemed to magically find a way to slyly terrorize me while I was paying to stay there!

This hotel has gone downhill, dirty, rooms smell of some cheap air freshener I am in the third room and it is disgusting; ceiling peeling, floors with mystery stains, just horrible. Front desk clerk is rude. Never again, and more like a cheap Howard Johnsons than a Hilton. Even the sidewalks outside are filthy!

Stayed one night for Mother’s Day but they changed the amenities as they like and they lied as they like. They are not professionals! It seems the hotel is running by some random housewives. Extremely unhappy stay! Never never again in this location.

The hallway where my room was smelled extremely musty or moldy. It was overwhelming. However, it somehow did not infiltrate into my actual room. My room was quite run down, I'd say. Lots of stains on stuff and just dingy. So that was the bad stuff. The great thing was the service I got from all the food service staff- I was there for work- and they were all so sweet. Especially wonderful was Everell (I hope I got his name right!) who I accosted every time I saw him since I somehow decided he alone was responsible for providing my vegan meals and my almond/soy milk for my coffee. He was really awesome and wonderful- and didn't seem like he wanted to kill me for being such a pest. I really appreciated him!

Not a smooth, cheery visit; possibly the worst "full service" Hilton I have encountered. Parking garage elevator was out of order for at least 2 days, no signs. Front desk staff was having some kind of confab when we walked up, did not acknowledge us until they were done, then they were curt at best. Website had advertised $10/nt parking, it was 20. Showers are about the right height if you are 5'2", otherwise keep your head down. Vanity area is tiny. HVAC is pretty loud if that bothers you ( not an issue for me if it is consistent, which it was) Bed is stiff but reasonably comfortable for my taste. I was traveling with my wife on her business trip. I asked the desk to adjust our keys for the executive lounge (I am diamond, my wife is not) but they said they couldnt do that without altering the reservation. I also have status with Marriott and they give me those benefits even if I am on a group rate like Priceline. Housekeeping did not replace the washcloths, cleanliness mediocre. Look, in the overall scope of life none of these issues are serious. However, if you are looking for the good value at a normal level of service for this hotel tier, I would recommend skipping this one.

I had a two-day stay for some business at the State Capitol. I was happy with my visit; although not perfect, it was a great experience. I took Amtrak to Albany and called for a ride from the shuttle from the hotel. While I understand it is based on availability, it is essential to know that priority is given to their airport runs. I should have considered taking my Amtrak trip to the Albany airport instead. I was initially told a 45-minute wait!!!! When I protested, a manager came to pick me up less than 10 minutes later. I went to Druthers for dinner for a quick bite and received a short ride from the hotel. The service was excellent, but for $18 for a burger, I would pass next time. I am a diamond member and did receive a nice upgrade. The room was clean but dated; the carpet was worn in some areas. Housekeeping did a great job. Every staff member that I met was extremely helpful and friendly. At the breakfast buffet, it wasn't clear that there were made-to-order omelets on my first day. The prepared eggs were runny and gross. I had the made-to-order on the second day, and they were perfect. There was crisp bacon, lots of bread choices, fruits, cereal, etc. The cost was 23 dollars. Elaine, Gwen, Theresa, Kim, and the gentleman at the host station seating me were friendly and extremely helpful. I did meet John, the Beverage and Food manager. He checked in with me to see if everything was okay during my stay. I did have an issue with not getting the shuttle to the Capitol. I couldn't wait 40 plus minutes and had to take alternative transportation. Shuttle drivers were accommodating; Robert, Alan, Mark, and one other person were extremely courteous, helpful, and professional. All in all, I would go back to this hotel if I were in the same area.

My room was very hot, 76. I tried to put on the air and turn off the system. Despite it being below 50 neither helped. I told the front desk who explained that they do not have air at this time of the year so despite me setting the temp to 62, it’s likely that I was heating the room with the HVAC on ‘air’. That feels, to me, like extremely poor design.

Way over price. Rude Front Desk staff. The rooms were pretty clean. That is the only good thing I can say. Restaurant and Bar were stupidly over priced. Rooms are stupidly over priced. Ask for water and they bill you $5.00 for a small bottle of water. Was a real crappy experience.

Service is very poor and room are very old. Not what you would expect from a Hilton Hotel. Hotel staff seems not to care about their customers and feels annoyed when you ask questions. Not a place where you feel comfortable.

I am a Hilton Diamond member, but stay at a variety of Hilton brands. This Hilton was by far the worst in regards to facility condition. While the lobby looks beautiful, the room was worn, dark, and had a heavy smell of cigarette smoke. The hotel is "heat only" during the winter. During my brief March stay there was a 65 degree day, which put the room at about 75 degrees. The only way to cool the room is to open the window. Hard to sleep in a city hotel with the window open. Paying over $200 a night you should be able to control the temperature of the room, minimally. Housekeeping and rest of the staff were all as helpful as they could be. With the facility in this condition, I'll never stay here again. Those attending the conference I was there for also stated they would not stay there again.
