We stayed one night a Mbalata Beach Cottage and loved every moment. The traditional Beach hits although simple are comfy and provide true Flores experience. The owner, Francis is welcoming and wants to share his knowledge of the local area. He went out of his way to make our time at Mbalata memorable and showed us some of the local attractions. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience true Flores hospitality and architecture.

Just 1km of the main highway, a few km's west of Aimere you ll find this lovely spot. Smart beachhuts set in a tropical garden backed by ricefields and a stretch of beach that you have mainly for yourself. Beautiful views at the perfect coned inerievulcano. Nothing else. Its al peace and quietness around here. The charismatic Francis and his charming staff will look after you and serving great food that cant be any fresher. Francis is truly a great cook. Youll regret if you pass this place without staying. If you would know what you would have gotten..

We really enjoyed our stay. The Bungalows are beautiful, clean, have have comfortable beds, and private bathrooms. The owner Francis has put a lot of work into this property and it shows: beautiful flowers and trees have been planted, as well as numerous coconut palms which had delicious young coconuts seemingly whenever we wanted. The staff are friendly. The food is delicious, especially the local fish dinner! Also, it is a short drive from the Aimere Arak distillery! Definitely would stay again. Thanks Francis for the lovely stay! -Ian and Urszula

We decided to stay here based on reading the fantastic reviews but were a bit worried that it might be fully booked as we couldn’t find a number or email to contact Francisco. We decided to risk it and just turn up and are so glad we did. We were greeted by Francisco, the owner, who was gardening at the time. He was soon shimmy-ing his way up a tree to get us fresh coconuts to drink and eat in the sunshine. The rooms are lovely and we loved the bathroom. Although the room was open, there was no issue with mosquitos and we didn’t get a single bite during our stay. The food is delicious - proper home cooked food using ingredients from the garden. Portions are huge and so fresh. We particularly loved the whole tuna we had for dinner one night which was cooked to perfection. Yum! Francisco is a great host, very friendly and welcoming. He was very interesting to talk to as he is very involved in the Flores tourism board, campaigning to promote responsible and sustainable tourism on the island. We absolutely loved our stay and have already recommended it to people we have met along the way. Don’t miss out on this gem!
