To me, this hotel is a home away from home. They truly treat you as a guest. Stayed here three times, for a couple of weeks, while visiting family. Its a green oasis in lively Surabaya. Pool and garden are beautiful and well-kept. We stayed in the executive suite the last time, which we enjoyed a lot. The rooms however could use a refresh. During all visits we had multiple issues with the room, like the toilet not flushing and leakage. Other than that, the hotel is excellent. The restaurant itself would be a reason to come back - all thats on the menu is de-li-cious!

We were here as part of the end our trip to Mt Ijen and Bromo with the intention of just relaxing for the next 2 days. It's the perfect place to do that. The hotel is away from the center of town (but close enough by taxi), there's enough space for kids to run around safely, there's a big swimming pool, snooker table, lots of outdoor dining space. Room was very spacious. Staff were friendly. Indonesian/Asian food was good but the western options were just average. My only complaint is the wifi connection is not good.

Nice hotel with great service and staff. Very reasonable price for spacious and clean rooms and (mostly) great atmosphere. Massive pools, in room / poolside massages are also a nice addition. Food portions are small to Western standards and can take long to prepare.

HOWEVER, the biggest let down is their treatment of animals. The hotel houses several animals around the complex - 2 Lutung monkeys and 2 civets - who are all living in horrid conditions. The monkeys are chained up with no longer than a 1m chain that surrounds a tiny wooden bird house nailed onto a tree that they use for shelter. No bedding, toys, water or food bowls were provided (at least none that I saw of). The civets were held together in a cage that at one point they were desperate to get out of (saw them trying to scratch their way out), also with no bedding or toys and little shelter from the rain.

What began as a pleasant stay with a warm welcome was quickly dampened by this experience. When I confronted the staff, they swiftly defended their actions by saying that Budi, their GM, is in fact a huge animal lover. Somehow I highly doubt this.

Anyway, if you care little about animal rights then this is a great hotel.

Side note: Upon further research I've found out that Lutung monkeys are vulnerable to extinction, just saying.

Horrible service. My sister's wedding reception was ruined because of the unprovessional service. The reception was held poolside, but rain came and they do nothing to help. The air conditioner not working. Staff not coming when we call them to our hotel room.

I was attracted to stay at this hotel due to its low rate ( less than USD50/= a night! ). Upon arrival, I was shocked at the condition. It was old and worn out and not maintained. The rooms are dimly lit and very dirty with no amenities. The bed smell.

I hardly see any guest checking in. Hotel claims it is a Hilton but I doubt it. Upon checking in and seeing this condition, I check out immediately and went to stay at the Shangri-La instead.

Avoid this hotel at all cost.

I stayed at singgasana about end of october 2014 attending my friend wedding, im lucky i can experience to stay at this wonderfull place, it was hot day when i visit there,i thougt our room were ready for us but we need to wait about 1 hour to get our room done, it was busy period, im surprise to get to the room we need to walk quiet a while from the lobby....and the air con was not cool enough in my room, but thats ok as long as im not sweating.
The wedding dinner was good, overall it was a great experiance once again for me.
The next morning we experiance the for breakfast, the food is good a lot of variety and it was good ending for us which is what we want is a good breakfast to start a new day. But only the cook was there, no restaurant staff??

Likes:
- Room size: stayed in the executive suite, massive space. Had a peek at the deluxe, also spacious. Hey it is after all a former Hilton.
- Outdoor ambiance, lots of trees, really helps to cool the Surabaya heat. Nice to sit down and just enjoy the breeze.
- Reputable taxi available, drivers were helpful, friendly. has both the regular sedan taxi and the VIP Hyundai van, nice.
-Comfy bed, and sofa..

Dislikes:
- Everything's in decay or..going there... had the old fire alarm cemented over, ugh..ugly scene..at least disassemble it first!
- Bland breakfast, croissant was tough, did not try the rice dish. Also it doesn't have Surabaya's unique food like nasi pecel or rawon in the menu, anywhere..disappointing.
-To top it off, the service. From around 20 staffs I met, only 3...maximum 5 greeted or smiled, the rest just trot by. Major disappointment :(

One of our friends got married in this hotel, so we went and stayed there for some days.

The hotel is a former Hilton hotel, and everything is used but still working. The hotel rooms are very big and have a lot of them going for it.
The hotel is rated 4 stars, but with some serious renovation could become 5 stars again.
The hotel is setup bungalow style, with everything on the same level situated around a pool/park area.

There is free wifi in the lobby and pool area. The food is good, and breakfast is fine.
If we ever visit Surabaya again, I would not mind staying in this hotel again.

i choose this hotel at first because there is no more room at Java Paragon at this period. i got executive suite for US$90 or RP.900.000,-. the receptionist was great, the bell man friendly and give us clear explanation about the hotel. the room is not so large for executive standard with living room, one king size bed, one bath room with shower and bathtub. the room is OK. Lil bit old and need maintenance.the room is so clean but smell like and old wood.everything is so so until we got breakfast in the morning.we got break fats at 6.30..the restaurant crowded already..but no waitress/waiter...nobody give the guest a service. no one offering you coffee or tea...there is 3 waitress&waiter but they are busy talking and laughing together...the egg corner ready so late like 7 am in the morning.really bad breakfast experience.the swimming pool was large but the water not so clean better you avoid to swim on it. the fitness center hidden, small and seems broken.i don't recommended this hotel to anybody.better you choose JAVA PARAGON to stay in Surabaya. its so much better
