The Shangri-La was nice and "almost" back to pre-pandemic levels. It is always a nice place to stay for business and vacation. The personal services are great. One day I went to the coffee shop at 0500 but they open at 0600. I ask and received a coffee and apple to take away. I had to leave early for a golf game. The staff were very courteous and happy to assist even thought they were not open and just setting up the breakfast buffet.

Old world grand hotel with modern rooms & nice gardens & excellent service. Lobby lounge with huge picture windows floor to ceiling overlooking the resort pool & gardens. It’s an excellent place to do business, relax & dine. Unfortunately the Shang restaurant is now only open on weekends. It is a classic Chinese restaurant with vegetarian options. Breakfast on pool level is also very nice. selection is limited for vegetarians, fresh fruits cereals & some Indonesian vegetarian options. Staff service is impeccable Beds & pillows are super comfortable Everything I look for in a luxury hotel

the room and hotel facility is over expectation. the lounge bar is excellent too for both staff and the food the front desk staff is very efficient and experience . during my booking thru phone. the staff assist to make sure could assist to extend the room by putting a note on booking and first priority giving the room extension if any next room slot available. this give good help to guest and reduce lots Hazzard of traveling. I enjoy the stay in this hotel and wish to back again soon

NOT A GOOD HOTEL - POOR MANAGEMENT I will never stay at the Shangri-La Surabaya ever again and suggest Shangri-La Group revoke the right to use their name. The management team is incompetent! I stayed there with a number of my family members - 6 rooms rented. They did a “fire drill” with out properly notifying all guests in the hotel. To make matter worse there were hotel employees in the hallways telling people this was not a drill and there was an actual fire on the 6th floor creating a panic. My wife’s mother wanted to go down in the elevator and she was told NOT TO USE THE ELEVATOR but to exit down the stairs - THERE WAS A FIRE ON THE 6th floor. How can management be so NEGLIGENT and IRRESPONSIBLE. Stay somewhere else / this is a has been hotel with and incapable management team.

Very nice hotel I must say, staffs were friendly and helpful. Loved the ambience as always since am a long timer returning guests (most Lebaran before pandemy hits). Loved the breakfast menu and the sheer variations. However, this latest visit there we some improvements needed : 1) When we arrived, no towels at all, this is basic needs. 2) phone were out of service - so a bit difficult to complain 3) extra beds were lowzy 4) Keys were broken 5) shower drain clogged. Hope they fix this for the next guests.

I have stayed at this hotel countless times over the past 10+ years. The staff continues to be the most awesome aspect of this hotel. They have an ability to make you feel appreciated and welcomed as a guest, but also make you feel at home, all at the same time. While the entire staff is excellent, the Horizon Club staff always stands out. Whether you are there for breakfast, an afternoon coffee, or happy hour, you will receive attentive service and heart felt hospitality. The rooms were renovated a few years ago and are still in great shape. The new decor is clean, modern, yet comfortable and "homey" at the same time. Cleanliness is second to none - not just in the rooms, but everywhere in the hotel. I have visited 3 times during the pandemic and it is obvious they go above and beyond the basics to ensure the rooms, common areas, and restaurants are kept clean to the highest standard. The bathrooms are spotless and well maintained. Water pressure for the shower and hot water are never an issue. Towels are soft and thick. Shampoo and soaps are high quality and replaced daily. If you used half a bottle of soap or shampoo, they will put a new one along with the open one to minimize waste and make sure you don't run out. The air conditioner is quiet, works great, and is capable of keeping the room as cool as you want it, even if it's super hot and humid outside. The TV is at least 40 inches (maybe larger) and has a great selection of channels in a wide variety of languages. They do have multiple HBO channels, a few other movie channels, CNN, BBC, CNBC, Discovery, TLC, NatGeo, and too many other channels to list here. The room renovation included adding modern power outlets on one or both sides of the bed. At least one universal outlet and 2 USB charging ports are provided. The desk area also has multiple outlets and USB charging ports. If you forgot to pack a travel adaptor, you'll still be able to easily charge / power just about any device. The wifi bandwidth is good enough for emails, web surfing, and watching YouTube, etc, but is not good enough for gaming systems like XBox. I didn't try Xbox with a wired connection, so I can't comment on that. I'm not sure if the wifi bandwidth issue is the hotel's fault - a higher bandwidth may not be possible in this area. I highly recommend booking a Horizon Club room. The additional amenities are well worth it. My only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that there is no laundry benefit with the Horizon Club room. It would be great if 2-3 pcs per day of free laundry were included. The food here is generally excellent. I had a disappointing meal in the Nishimura Japaense restaurant several years ago and haven't tried it since then, so I can't provide an updated review of that restaurant. Jamoo, their main restaurant, always has great food and service, even during the pandemic. Sapore offers some great Italian food - but I would like to see them add a Caesar Salad and Minestrone soup to their menu. That would round out their nice selection of soups and salads. They have a brick oven for making some tasty pizzas!! The Lobby Lounge currently offers a "Comfort Food" menu, which includes some Tex-Mex dishes and other savory dishes not listed on their regular menu. I highly recommend the chicken quesadillas!! Regardless of your tastes and preferences, you will always find something to satisfy your appetite here. I'm not sure why this hotel is ranked #17 of all the hotels in Surabaya here on Tripadvisor. It should be #1. I am a Marriott Bonvoy Gold level member and I made the mistake of staying at the JW Marriott ONCE. How that hotel is currently ranked #1, I'll never know. There is NO comparison between these two hotels. The Shangri-La is MUCH cleaner in every area, from the lobby, common areas, restaurants, and rooms. Also, the location of the Shangri-La is much better. If you need to leave the hotel to go to factories in the area or the airport, the Shangri-La's location is much more convenient in terms of driving time, saving you 20-30 minutes or more, depending on traffic. I will ALWAYS choose the Shangri-La over ANY Marriott property when visiting Surabaya. Again, I can't say enough about the staff and cleanliness of the facilities here at the Shangri-La Surabaya. They are second to none. I don't know how they find and train their staff - but whatever they are doing, it works. Every employee, from the managers to the desk staff, the Horizon Club, the restaurants, to the security staff, EVERY one of them is a happy and motivated individual who will always do their best to assist you. If I could give them a 6 "bubbles" rating on here, I would!! HIGHLY recommended for any type of stay!!

Shangri-la Surabaya is perhaps the best value for price hotel in Surabaya. For their price point for 5* hotel, they are spectacular and have complete facility such as Jaccuzi, Cold Plunge Pool, decent gym, and so on. For their soft product, their service quality is also flawless. All the staff is friendly, professional, and hospitable. Special mention for Nathaniah at the Horizon Club Lounge for being amazing and making sure our 'club lounge' experience was perfect. Yuniar and Arief as health club attendant is also friendly and also special mention to Triana & Saromah for making our special Teppan Dinner at Nishimura restaurant a memorable one. I really enjoy my stay and can't wait to go back to Shangri-la Surabaya soon!!
