What a slice of paradise this place is! We stayed as a family in the 2 bedroom Vice Regal Villa and it was just stunning and so luxurious. The kids aged 10 and 15 loved having their own pool and room upstairs, and also the gym and squash courts. The gym was one of the best we have seen in Bali! The food here - incredible and if you like fine dining make sure you try the Degustation Dinner at Apertif. Our other favourite place was the Pinstripe cocktail bar, the kids would play on the pool table while we tried some of the amazing cocktails and wines. Pool area is stunning and the staff here just so friendly and helpful. Spa was beautiful and so was the massage. Such beautiful views into the valley from the resort too - we really can't recommend this hotel enough if you are after something luxurious and peaceful!

In previous reviews on this site, I refer to a top 3 list of hotels we have stayed in, during a period of 15 years living and working overseas from the UK, and 40 years of travelling the globe. But we have a new winner at No 1 in Viceroy Bali.
We are in awe of this place. Hosted in one of the top newly built villas with private heated pool and an amazing view of the Valley of the Kings with its wild monkeys. There is so much to mention about the Viceroy.
The Accommodation and Private Pool was fantastic. The pool was very private and not overlooked and heated. The room a Deluxe premium suite was very comfortable with a sofa and TV as well as a daily socked mini bar. The bed was amazing and shower really good.
Cascades and Aperitif Restaurants were excellent with Cascades having a well varied menu which we dined in for lunch and dinner for 10 days. We also had a fantastic degustation meal in Aperitif, with the food and service impeccable.
The Service and Staff were incredible. Tutik, Chaas, Agung, Tari, Jero, Ayuni, Subrata, Amel, Dewa and, Santi (too many others to mention) looked after us like we were family. Everyone was so kind and polite, thank you to you all including Patrick.
The Excursions and Activities consisted of an on-site Cookery Lesson with Nalendra and Dirga where we picked the veg from the garden and then cooked a 4-course meal in the kitchen area where the breakfast buffet is served. Great skills from both Chefs. We also had an excursion with Chaas to visit the Volcano, Temple, Coffee plantation and stopped at a restaurant for some babi guling.
In the Spa we had a 60 Minute massage which was excellent, and we got to choose our oils.
The Shuttle service every 2 hours to and from Ubud is a godsend and we used this a few times.
The hotel Wi-Fi was very strong, and we were connected wherever we went on the resort. The Communication with the staff via WhatsApp was really useful especially when requesting a pickup from the shuttle or something for the Villa.
The Villa Condition was superb and ours was fairly newly built. A lot of thought had gone into the layout and configuration and hats off to the owners. Before I retired, I was a Project Director in Hotel construction, which I did all over the world, and I could find not 1 fault in the workmanship of our Villa.
A lot of nice touches such as a nightly turndown service, a spice gift after our cooking lesson, Candles from the Spa after our massage and nightly gifts in our room as well as a personalised gift on our departure make such a difference.
Was it Value for money? Absolutely! You can’t really put a price on an experience and what an experience it was. Amazing. Thank you Viceroy we will never forget you.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
Everything has been thought of in detail. The first hour I couldn't get over my surprise. Well set up. And other than the name Viceroy suggests it is affiliated with a chain, this is a family-owned hotel. Hotel? 40 beautiful villas with private bath all overlooking the valley. Great manicured garden. Even the restaurants and bar have their own atmosphere. Where breakfast is also served there is no buffet, but everything á la carte so freshly prepared and nothing is made redundant. No happy hour but really an hour of socializing with cocktails and exquisite snacks on the house! The bar has an unbeatable 1920s atmosphere with music by Frank Sinatra and Brenda Lee. When you come to the Aperitif Restaurant, run by a Belgian, you get dishes that are so star worthy! A wonderful blend of fusion, such as carpaccio with green sambal, tuna as a flower in spicy chili sauce. Or beef wellington with rendang sauce and foie gras. We took advantage of their tour to make trips. Excellent guide / driver with so much knowledge and above all, people knowledge! Also worth mentioning, they have tapped their own water source at 100 mt so you can drink pure drinking water from the tap via their system. I've been here for over a week. The surplus water is donated back to the river. How I will miss this! Thank you all you are fantastic! Pieter and Denise

If I could give this review more than 5 stars I would. Best accommodation experience I have had worldwide. A friend and I travelling from Australia chose this resort based on fabulous reviews and we were not disappointed. From the pick up transfer with Kadek (more on him later) to the check in experience with fresh sorbet on arrival and an unexpected upgrade to a Terrace Villa our experience here has been total bliss.
Our terrace villa was out of this world, prior to arrival we were contacted to check if we would like our private pool heated and air conditioning on. Spacious, luxurious room with fresh fruit replaced daily. Twice daily housekeeping, bottled water and beautiful amenities are all inclusive.
We booked a private 1/2 day tour and requested Kadek as our driver. WOW just WOW! The local knowledge he has is just mind blowing. We had no set agenda and let him pick our itinerary. We visited the Monkey temple, coffee plantation to taste the “poo” coffee, rice paddy fields and then to our request he took us to see how Batiks are made then to some incredible jewellery stores. Cold water, cold towels were provided. Kadek made us feel comfortable and nothing was a problem, we even extended our tour by 1 hour to indulge in some more shopping. By the end of the tour he felt like an old friend who we had just spent the day with.
To wrap up this review this was the most amazing experience. The Viceroy has nailed the epitome of luxury. Margaret the owner is seen dining with guests which shows how proud she is of what has been achieved here. The staff should all be so proud of themselves. They have made our Ubud stay incredible. Thank you Viceroy for the stay - we are already planning our next stay.

Response from Amanda Syrowatka, Owner at Viceroy Bali
Our third visit to Viceroy. We came from California with our 7 month old and 2.5 year old. Very accommodating for babies, high chairs are available and beautiful crib with mosquito net provided. Originally had the baby crib made for my 7 month old but it ended up being perfect for our 2 year old!
Rooms and property are so clean and well kept. No dust in the corners so clean!! Beautiful property.
Their breakfast is consistently a 10/10. They switched to buffet style, and I was a bit worried at first but the food is just as good. You can order fresh food served to your table at buffet which was helpful since we had 2 young kids. Their breakfast is my favorite.
The first time we came was for our honeymoon and it was perfect stayed in terrace villa. It was perfect for our second visit with 10 month old. This time was also great same customer service even better since we have two kids. The villa terrace has marble floor so we brought toddler slippers for our 2 year old to prevent slipping especially on wet floor we lay down towels for all of us to prevent slipping. It is a quieter place so I did sometimes feel bad when kids were loud. We stayed 3 nights which was perfect for getting over the jet lag. So peaceful we love it. We love the Balinese decor and villas. The new building look a bit more British or something so it doesn’t give off the nice Bali vibe as much. But it is very nice so worth checking it out.
We also love how the hotel is eco friendly, no plastic bottles which is great!! Water is filtered and safe to shower baby and if it gets into their mouth it’s okay. They say we can fill water bottles from the sink so it made us feel safe and confident to bathe babies in it and wash bottles etc.
Another wonderful stay can’t wait to come back for the 4th time.

At the end of our Bali trip we wanted to treat ourselves to a few days of luxury at the Viceroy. We were warmly welcomed with flower garlands and welcome drinks and after the formalities we were taken to our villa number 7. The room is very spacious, it has (like every room in the Viceroy) its own private pool, the water temperature of which can be changed on request. Sanitary facilities are located in the covered outdoor area, where the pool is also located. Room service comes by twice a day and keeps the room tidy and clean. The complex is very well maintained, there are frangipani trees with fragrant flowers everywhere, there is always space at the pool and in the restaurant. The guests seem to be chosen. In general you can say that there is a pleasant and calm atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and always has a smile ready. Our children really enjoyed the attention they received here. The menu at the Cascade is varied and offers both local and international food. In the spa we were able to enjoy a Balinese massage. Many thanks to Suli at this point. The massage was outstanding and did us a lot of good.
Here are a few well-intentioned constructive tips: - it would be nice if there were places to hang up wet swimwear in the room. - the area between the pool and the bathrooms or room inevitably gets wet when you swim in the pool. The area also dries very slowly because no sun reaches it. It would be good if there was a way to dry the floor. That would make using the area much more pleasant.
All in all, we would like to thank you for your hospitality and would definitely recommend the Viceroy.

Wow, just wow. From the moment we arrived this is true 5 star. The Viceroy is in walking distance of Ubud centre (1.5 miles) and is perched on the edge of a spectacular valley. This gives it a really airy feeling and incredible views. The hotel itself has a luxurious feel to it and a sweeping entrance and reception area which opens out onto a beautiful pool, immaculate grounds and the restaurant and bar.
The rooms are all built into the hillside. We had room 26 which is on the top level so did not require too much walking, there are good paths but it is steep and would be a good walk to lower rooms. However they have thought of everything. There is a free and regular shuttle into Ubud and golf buggies will pick guests up in the hotel to transport those who don’t want to walk up and down from the pool, restaurant or reception. The staff are excellent and prices reasonable in the Cascades restaurant and food is good quality. Breakfast is a mix of buffet choices (plentiful and excellent quality) as well as cooked choices done while you wait. We loved our room and private pool. High quality, spacious and very comfortable. The main pool is also excellent but it could do with some shallower steps to get in and out as it is a very high step.
The hotel arranged a private tour for us at our request and their own drivers provide this. We only wanted a half day and our driver, Gama, was perfect. We felt very looked after, learnt loads about Bali and the culture and although we packed a lot into our half day it felt relaxed and very enjoyable. We felt the. Overly offered great value for this service and can highly recommend.
On site there is a Michelin star restaurant called Aperitif. We booked for their taster meal there complete with wine flight. The decor is 1920s in style with a very cool bar area. The quality and customer service was excellent and despite having our airline lose our luggage so very limited in our clothes, we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. It was particularly nice to see the owner daily as she walks the grounds and we had a brief chat with her - another lovely experience and you can tell this is a hotel which cares about guests and staff. Despite previous reviews about the gym, when we stayed it looks like it has now moved to a great space. It’s very well equipped, good air con and touches such as chilled water and a Bose Bluetooth speaker so you can play your own music. Overall we were very very impressed and can highly recommend the Viceroy. We will definitely be returning

We enjoyed a wonderful stay with our family at Viceroy Villas where we were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The staff were really friendly, attentive and courteous without exception. We built up a great rapport with the drivers and Cascades restaurant staff who were particularly lovely and made a fuss of our two little grandchildren. Room service and cleaners were similarly very polite, the cleaners couldn’t have been more mindful of the babies if they were sleeping and tried to keep any disturbance minimal. Staff on the reception desk were really helpful when we left a wallet in a bar in Ubud (successfully retrieved the following day) and the infinity poolside staff were great. We loved the cycle ride to the paddy fields, temple tour and on-site massage which were arranged for us, and the food at Cascades (Balinese eggs Benedict is a must) was superb, as was the taster menu at Aperitif. The villas themselves were very comfortable and clean, the gardens well kept, and we loved having our own outdoor area with a pool. I highly recommend Viceroy Villas for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting. The staff all really promote their country and gentle culture and show a pride in their work. Thank you so much to Patrick and the team for making this a holiday to remember.

Everything is good about the Hotel but I find it overpriced. I meant at that price a little customisation could have been attempted at least in food. We were vegetarian and we tried to ask for something better than bread or fruits during breakfast but was plainly denied during the checkin itself. Room was comfortable and staff was mostly courteous. For the price they command a little extra needs to be given to the customer. Also please add one individual weighing scale in each room.

Dear Ragzv, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're pleased to hear that you found the hotel comfortable and the staff mostly courteous. However, we regret any disappointment regarding the vegetarian options during breakfast. Your input is valuable, and we apologize if you felt your request for customization was not adequately addressed during check-in. Hello, whilst it is possible to walk the approximately 2km into Ubud centre, it is not a particularly pleasant walk next to the busy road. The footpaths however are newly built. We provide a complimentary car shuttle for in-house guests to town, as well as have motorbikes and e-bikes for guests.
so yes. there is one at 5 minutes of walk. there is also a laundary. but without enterin the Monkey Forest Road, at the beginning o fthe market (Where the Hotel drops you), there are plenty. but it takes about 15 minutes to reach by car
Dear blackbook - thank you for the interest to stay with us. The Deluxe Terrace Villa took their design from their original Terrace Villa counterparts, however with larger infinity pool and a newer design that integrates Balinese architecture seamlessly. However, in terms of the room size, both are the same at 150sqm. If you would like any further information, please let us know.
Thank you
