Having stayed in Sanur many times over the years we thought we’d give Hotel Segara Agung a try this trip. This was our first time in this particular pocket of Sanur and overall we liked our 8 night stay here quite a lot. As with any hotel, it wasn’t perfect and there were some areas where I thought they could make improvements. I like to deal directly with hotels rather than booking sites. Ketut the manager was very prompt with his emails. One thing I liked was that they didn’t require any deposit to secure our booking and Ketut gave me a price reduction for a long stay in low season. We originally booked a Deluxe Room #6, but on arrival (late at night) we found the room not really to our liking. The bathroom was very, very tired and desperately in need of an upgrade. There were no power points that weren’t already being used (couldn’t charge our tablets and phones unless we unplugged the fridge, TV or bedside lamps) and the aircon rattled a bit. But it was the hot sun belting in through the non block-out curtains at sunrise the next morning that sealed our decision to move to another room. I went to reception and managed to upgrade to a vacant ground floor Junior Suite #23 for a small fee which was an excellent move. These newer rooms are much nicer and worth the extra cost. Larger room, cleaner bathrooms, satellite TV, lounge chair, desk/vanity, extra storage, plenty of available power points, etc.etc. WHAT WE LIKED - The hotel grounds were lush, tropical and very pleasant to walk through. - Being off the main road and down a lane there was no traffic noise at any time of day. Sleep quality was excellent. - Our Junior Suite was clean and modern. - You could leave all your valuables in a safe at reception. - The staff were always nice and friendly. - The proximity to just about everything was a real plus. Once you hit the end of the driveway it was only 200m to the beach with about a dozen great restaurants and bars or 300m in the other direction to the main road for more great restaurants, moneychangers, ATMs, massage salons, shops, small supermarket for supplies, laundry, cafes and taxis. Everything you need is no more than 5-7 minutes walk away in any direction - Not charging the usual 2-3% credit card fee when paying the final bill. WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE - Even though the breakfast was adequate (juice, coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, fried rice, bacon, eggs, toast and pastries) it never varied at all, ever during our stay. Towards the end we were paying for breakfasts at one of the excellent cafes (Asoka or Dusk Blue) nearby because we were getting really tired of the same breakfast fare every day. - The pool area, although a nice spot with loungers and umbrellas, is not shaded at all by any trees. This meant the pool got very hot during the course of the day under the strong sun. The water temperature in the afternoon was literally like getting into a hot bath. Not very refreshing in the Balinese heat when you really need to cool down. All in all though it really was a nice stay at Segara Agung and if they could just manage to keep the sun off the pool we would seriously consider becoming longtime repeat guests.

We just spent seven nights there. Good location with a five minute walk to a lot of beach side restaurants but several of the internal fixtures, fittings and design left much to be desired. The rooms smelt of mold or mildew when we arrived and needed to be aired out. No basin no shelves in the "wet room"; wash up and shave using the basin and mirror just outside on the bench where coffee and tea facilities are located; power points in awkward locations; stained towels and linen; hard chairs on the porch (cushions only available for one bungalow out of many);breakfast sausages and bacon majorly overcooked every morning and no information brochure to acquaint you with the services. The staff was competent and friendly and the grounds were well maintained. If the room facilities were upgraded to western standards(and it would not take much), the place would get much better ratings.

Room Tip: Ask for the older bungalows as the newer ones are poorly designed.

We stayed at Segara Agung for 1 Night! The hotel is quite nice with clean and big rooms and a nice pool! Bathroom could be better. But we had to deduct points for their eco-unfriendliness! On the room, they offer 4 0.2 Liter Water Bottles! One 1.0 Liter Bottle or even 1 0.5 Liter bottle would be better! They just have plastic straws, no bamboo or alu. At breakfast, juices are really sweet and not fresh and if you want to mix it with water, there are just the prepacked 0.25 plastic water cups. No big tank for a refill! Moreover all or most lights are on when it is very unnecessary. For example at arrival at the room during the day! Not necessary in a mainly coal-fired country! Besides the eco-unfriendliness all in all a good hotel!

I had a five day stay in the superior room....the room was large fairly basic but a nice balinese feel. The bathroom was a bit dated but very functional...it would suit most peoples needs....the real stars of this hotel are the wonderful staff....always friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The gardens are immaculate and beautiful.....you really feel as though you are in Bali....the pool is lovely with plenty of loungers and towels available.......the breakfast was, for me, lovely......coffee fruit ....fruit juice,,,,,bacon... eggs... toast...paistries.... andf usually a rice or noodle dish....the position is very close to the beach....a pleasant walk down a quiet road.....and proximity to main drag in Sanur couldn't be better....i loved this hotel....cheap...and relaxing.....I would recommend it to anybody...I will stay again in future

For the price, I was pleasantly surprised. Lovely Balinese atmosphere & gardens. Staff were so nice, any request quickly handled. Yes, it is dated & bathrooms should be replaced, but room comfortable & roomy. Note - if you can't do stairs (no lift) request a ground floor room. The location is fantastic, minutes walk to the beach - loved the boardwalk - & so many restaurants, warungs, shops nearby to choose from. Supermarket also close. Sanur has everything you could want, without the crowds/traffic of Kuta, Legian etc.

A good clean could improve this hotel by a mile, a real shame the management doesn‘t see or do anything, as its well located for Sanur. We stayed in a delux room #21 & # 15 for 7 days. Rooms are dirty, mouldy bathrooms & curtains; towels were disgusting, bedlinen not much better. Breakfast ok, staff helpful & friendly

A very good hotel with excellent service....just 5 min walk from the beach...we loved our stay here, the breakfast does not have great variety but is good enough with the cost we paid. A child friendly hotel.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The proximity to the beach and cafes/restaurants perfect and in fact only two minutes walk. Our cottage/villa comfortable, clean and we had a large room. Breakfast was included in the price which wasn’t to bad, basic but sufficient. The surrounds, stunning gardens and happy staff. The only negative but small point was out bathroom shower curtain had mould on it but tropical weather I understand. I would stay here again. Price can vary with booking agents. Well done Segara Agung thank you.

A friend and myself stayed here for 1 night, I was in room 15 (2 single beds) and my friend in 14 (double), they were rated as “superior” (l’d of hated to see what inferior was like). The rooms were reasonably spacious and a more traditional Balinese style which was good, but they were very old and dated. The rooms were musty which you sometimes get, and very dark due to the tinted windows, they were well furnished, the tv was like something from another era as was the aircon but they worked. The beds......... oh dear I sat on one of the single beds and it felt like I was sitting on bare wire springs, which when loaded with my 82kg of weight collapsed to the slat base. I panicked a bit and tried the other which was firmer and able to cope with my weight, you could still feel the springs but it was probably 2/5 the other bed was a 0/5, my friend said his was just ok. The linen in both rooms was clean but very thin with some rather sight discolouration/ staining, probably could have been replaced a while back. The pillows were crap not because of the lack of support but because the stank of mould, not just a little bit of tropical must they were, well yuck! (all 4 in my room were the same, as were the ones in my friends room). The bathrooms were old and very dated, in mine the original hand basin tap set had been replaced by a flick mixer leaving the old tap set holes exposed. The rubbish bin was full of the previous occupants rubbish. On the up side the towels were quite good. The outdoor furniture on the porch was old and uncomfortable (the cushions needed re-stuffing / replacing), the glass on the top of the coffee table was broken. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the pool is very small and is no longer capable of servicing the number of guests this hotel can house. The pool is also very tired with missing (replaced in places by concrete rather than tiles)and loose tiles on the pool surrounds, the pool lounge’s were comfortable and in good order. The buffet breakfast was nice, very basic, but it had everything most people would desire. 2 juice choices, coffee tea, eggs (cooked upon order), bacon, sausages, fried rice, 2 pastry choices, toast, cereal, and 4 choices of fruit. I stayed here about 4/5 years ago and really enjoyed it since that time the hotel has added many rooms without increasing the public spaces / pool etc. (seems a little greedy). The rooms we had were old and desperately in need of renovation. The newer ones may be better, I probably could almost have put up with that...... But.... the beds linen and pillows were absolutely crap, inexcusable (just should have been dumped years ago). We only stayed 1 night and as such may have been given the crap rooms but I won’t be returning and I definitely wouldn’t have stayed any longer, I think the pillows had potential to make us very unwell. I would think you could find a lot better value in Sanur. The Hotel Segara Agung has become overpriced for what it offers my advice would be look around and read some of the other reviews.

I was sceptical when I booked this hotel. I felt it would be run down and old. But when I reached there, I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful, gorgeous and adequately equipped property. During my stay there for 3 days , I came to appreciate the fact that this place actually met all my needs. It was quiet( almost like having a villa to yourself), tastefully decorated, occupied by people clearly staying there for sometime and yet within walking distance of all the main spots. Would defined recommend for people like me who travel on a budget , with family, looking for a quiet place to stay. Downsides: The plumbing needs some upgradation and wifi coverage could be better.
