Extra details We have chosen to work closely with this family and the villagers to give and to ensure a healthy future for the people, local economy and the beautiful environment. As such we hope to encourage the local youth not to migrate to south Bali in search of jobs We develop their environment in such a way, that they are not forced to seek jobs elsewhere. By creating the foundation "Indo Rumah Zengarden" together with this family we chose to invest for the long term. Nice resort but not all inclusive. Make sure you speak with Zammin, the manager, about everything. Everyone will charge you extra for everything. Meals were good. Room was clean and AC worked. Doors didn’t close all the way so make sure to use the net for the bed. Staff is friendly, don’t speak too much English. Try to communicate everything you’d like and ask for prices, they are just trying to make money here and there without discussing with you first. Pretty remote area so not much to do. Would recommend a night or two max. There are three different villas so make sure you know which one you’re getting. Pool was nice and refreshing. Driver is not included and neither is laundry. Don’t be fooled by what it says on the website. Know and ask as many questions as possible.

We stayed in Rumah Sumatra with our 2 kids, aged 3.5 and 9.5. The space was beautiful - the garden and pool are just as pictured, with large sliding windows that make you feel like you are outside all the time. While there were other guests, we never saw them. The grounds were beautiful, as were the staff. Bagus and Putu took us on a walk our first day down to the nearby river, and also drove us to the Ailing Ailing water fall. The food was excellent and plentiful. Komang was so helpful. The grounds include a fish pond, playground, chickens and pigs. A few keys that made it extra special for our family: The pool was great for our 3.5 year old - about 1/3 of the pool was shallower where he could stand, but the rest was deeper for jumping. They have a water cooler in the house, which was so much better than all the plastic bottles we were provided at other accommodations. The staff was just so helpful and friendly - although you find that all over Bali in my experience. We will be back to this part of North Bali, and Indo Rumah Zengarden!

We stayed for two nights at Rumah Cantik, the smallest boutique style villa on the property up in the middle of a huge garden. The owners definitely care about their environment and the eco nature of the villas and gardens and Kim provided us a guided tour of the beautifully landscaped gardens around and in between which the villas sit. We were even offered an upgrade to one of the other large villas however Rumah Cantik was a good size for us. The amenities are with an up-to-date bedroom and bathroom and small private pool..however the beauty for us was the cute boutique style outside area were we dined and relaxed day and evening. Having a private evening massage in the tranquility and calm oasis with just the jungle and local sounds was pure relaxation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all included and prepared on order and bought to our villa all of which were excellent. Komang is a fantastic cook everything was full of flavor and delicious. Hands down her Balinese pancakes and coconut black rice (Bali breakfast) were the best we have had in Bali (I would face the 2.5 hour drive just to taste these again!) We also had a cooking lesson where we made our dinner of Gado Gado with peanut sate. The staff Kim, Zammin et all are friendly, devoted and attentive and make you feel right at home. The location and the villa definitely are a relaxing jungle paradise and a great break from the hustle bustle of Bali beach life Highly recommended!

We stayed here for three nights, a bit off the beaten path, a three hour drive from the airport, but worth it for a complete Indonesian experience. There are only three cabins, a working farm, lots of sights nearby including hot springs, waterfalls, nature hikes. The stay included breakfast, lunch and dinner all of which were excellent. Komang is the cook and she was terrific, everything was authentic Balinese, nasi goreng, pancakes, and curry dishes. Lovina Beach is about 15 minutes away, the resort includes transport around the local areas. Diving trips are also available. You definitely feel relaxed and out in the wilderness.

Whichever word I use, it would not even closely explain the beauty of this place. Real retreat, pure luxury combined with the amazing hospitality and beautiful nature. We stayed in Rumah Sumatra in early October and we loved it to bits. The house is beautiful, pool is clan and surrounded with wonderful vegetation which makes it so luxuries. I would not even mention food, as this was incomparable with any other place in Bali. Komang is a fantastic cook. We asked specifically for Balinese cuisine and she surprised us every day and everything was full of flavor and delicious. We also had a 24/7 dedicated taxi driver called Bagus and obviously, we spent the most time with him. He is such a big hearted, nice, polite and calm men and he was trying his best to make our holiday unforgettable. He drove us across Bali, waited for us while we explore destinations, took photos of us, recommended places to see and what to do, took us to shops to buy little souvenirs, explain everything about traditional drinks and snacks, took us tracking through jungle while explaining different sorts of fruits and plants. We had a really great time with him. Zammin (the manager) was, from the other hand, there to make all our wishes come true. He was the one who organized our trips, told us what is worth visiting, explain everything, teach us about Balinese history and culture. Since we expressed a great interest in Balinese culture, he took us to the temple one evening (which ended up to be the biggest celebration in Bali, something similar as Xmas in Europe) and we had the most amazing time there, as we seen real Bali. We were the only tourist there and everyone was so friendly and nice to us. Random people were giving us sweets and water and tried everything to make us feel welcomed. We’ve seen traditional Barong dance for free. The next day, Zammin invited us to his house for celebration. That was an amazing experience which one cannot find anywhere. The whole family was there, most of them didn’t even speak English but they were so nice to us. I think this was the best part of our holiday. The other people I must mention are employees of Zengarden as they were also fantastic. One guy climber a coconut tree to pick fresh coconut for us. They were giving us different fruits to try, helped us with luggage and all were there to help in any way. Asri is the masseuse and I had a privilege of enjoying a daily massage. She came to the house at the agreed hour, which was very convenient. She also helped me to buy cosmetics and made sure I was not ripped off. We went for a walk in the village and absolutely everyone was smiling and saying hello to us. I cannot express enough how friendly and nice this place is. I truly recommend it to everyone. If you want to experience real, non-commercial Bali, this is the place to go.
