Detailed Reviews
The place is very quiet, it's a great place to relax. The bungalows are beautiful and the food is amazing every day! The first time we ate real Balinees food, very healthy also. The people that work there are very kind! If you have a problem, they do everything to help you. And the garden is so nice, with many flowers erverywere.
If you want to go to the beach, you can go with the mountainbike or a moterbike.
So it's a very good choice to go there!

Sananda bungalows offers the experience of the real Bali that is so very hard to find. It is situated in the hills in the north of Bali near Lovina beach but secluded so you feel as though you have truly gotten away from the crowds.
The gardens in which the bungalows are set are truly beautiful and also full of the foods served at meal times. There are pineapples, rambutans, cashew nuts, etc as well as herbs and vegetables. Speaking of the food, for very reasonable prices, you can choose to have lunch or dinner or both on the veranda which has views to the ocean. The Balinese food was divine. Every day we just asked for a surprise and were rewarded with fresh, wholesome food - often a nasi campur - rice with a bit of everything. Breakfast is included and there are a wide range of delicious choices.
The bungalows are very comfortable, large and intelligently designed. Each has a landing with a view and a hammock or banana lounge with tranquil views. There are beautiful statues scattered through the compound, made by staff member, Sheila's husband. You really feel completely relaxed and at one with nature here.
There is unlimited drinking water, coffee and delicious homemade iced teas at no charge, as well as great wifi.
But what really sets Sananda apart is the incredible staff who make you feel like friends and honored guests at once. Nothing is too much trouble and they create a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. We spent one morning in the village guided by Sheila to visit the houses of some of the staff which was a special experience. Before we leave, we will book another visit. Exceptional.

+1
Off the crowded main road lies a little paradise in Selat, south of Lovina. In beautiful landscaped gardens we could relax in the spacious traditional Balinese-style bungalows. We liked the fancy outdoor bathrooms, the hammocks on the porch and the attention to detail in the rooms like the towel flower bouqets; the kids loved exploring the garden in search for the geckos or play the music instruments at the outdoor shelters. The garden is particular wonderful after dark, when some night-time flowers start to smell and you hear the cicadas and frogs.
The food was fresh and very tasty, and although vegetarian would usually not be my first choice, I didn't miss anything, as these were among our best dinners in Bali - but if you don't want vegetarian at all, you'll be offered other choices by the friendly owner Gina and her staff. Speaking of that, as all guests join for dinner at one large table (including Gina during our visit), you quickly feel like being a big family.
If we come back to Bali, we will for sure stay at Sananda again!
If you come here with you own car, you can set your satnav/gps to go to S 8.1565 / E 115.0621. The road going up from the northern coast is fine. The - in principle paved - one coming down from the crater (leaving the crater road at S8.2507,E115.0939, coming across S8.2258/E115.0789, S8.1939/E115.0633, S8.1833/E115.0684 and S8.1703/E115.0633) has amazing views, but is currently pretty at the limit for 2WD cars (don't try going uphill without 4WD).

My partner and I planned to stay at Sananda for three days, however, since it is one of the most beautiful places at Bali, we decided to extend our stay up to a week, which was a very good decision.
The staff is amazing: They are all very calm, friendly and absolutely helpful and supportive. They are very discrete, always approachable, and the whole atmosphere is warm and familial.
They serve real Balinese food and you get the best home baked bread for breakfast on the terrace, with a splendid view over the garden, the hills, and even the sea.
The rooms are beautifully arranged with few but well selected decorations. The whole place is incredibly clean and the beds are comfortable. However our room remained quite warm during the night, as there was a fan and no air condition (but the two bigger houses seemed a bit cooler since they are lying more in the shade). Furthermore the staff is very attentive and perceptive: I am suffering from a lots of allergies (mainly house dust mites and some food allergies) and I did not experience any problems at this place (neither with food, since I told them about my allergies and they were very careful with the ingredients, nor in the bed, nor with the washing powder they use, etc).
They also arranged a dolphin tour for us. Here again we noticed that they really care about the people, the animals, and the surrounding. The guy (a friend from the Sananda staff) who took us to the dolphins always put his motor off when we were close to the animals (which none of the other guys with their boats did and who instead rushed after the dolphins). In the end we definitely came closest to the dolphins and had a great experience, thanks to our guide!
We also think that Sananda is an excellent host for families, even with very little children.
Furthermore it is a place where you can let your money with the best conscience ever.
We definitely recommend Sananda as one of the best accommodations. Since we were traveling around Bali for four weeks we had very mixed experiences regarding our accommodations, but Sananda is so peaceful and just beautiful. So you better book right now!
P.S. Ask about the fried bananas and you will be in heaven (actually I never liked banana very much, but these are soooo good, so they are a must have).

Lovely quiet place with a family atmospher where we spend a week. Its a good place to relax, with excellent local balinese food for breaktfast and dinner cookedy by Sheila, she is running Sananda. The staff is very helpful, giving lot of ideas for wonderful day-trips like visiting (not overcrowded) waterfalls or local markets. They organise also rental-bikes / cars. The bungalows are nice, clean, bright and and have very comfortable beds with mosquito net. The open shower is with hot water and sometimes you will a see cute gecko climbing along the wall outside. The pavilion isa perfect place for mediation and reading.. We even could join a traditional hindu ceremony.

Lovely greeting on arrival. Staff are brilliant, there for anything you need, English is amazing. I would like to see a pool or airconditioning as it can become uncomfortable and hot during your stay. I was there in September 2014. The room is kept immaculate, lovely gardens. A little far from all the attractions, this can also be a good thing as it is peaceful. The food was presented beautifully and tastes superb. The dog does need to be kept away from the areas the guests are using as he is not fully trained and can get out of control jumping on the guest and scratching through the skin. I would recommend this place if you are happy to pay for travel into the main area as it would be uncomfortable to walk all that way, or if you are happy to just relax and use the facilities and not venture anywhere for the time you are there.

We did just spend two nights here and didn't even leave the quite place for the whole time because we had a wonderful time just here!
We were welcomed like longterm friends, talked a lot and eat together with Gina and Bernhard who gave us the feeling like staying with friends.
While being there we got the chance to join an Agnihotra fire ceremony which was organized in Gina's garden. The whole group of Balinese people and a few foreigners integrated us very nice, which I find particulary amazing, as most Balinese people must feel disturbed by all the foreigners who come to the island and often disturb their culture more than contributing something positive to it.
There is a lot more we could add why why enjoyed our stay so much, just to mention a few: The clean and nice decorated bungalow, the value for money, the place it self with it's garden and pavilion and the tasty food and drinks...
We will definitely be back! Thank you all!

I recently stayed at the Sananda Bungalows for three nights from June 23 - June 25 and found it a particularly relaxing experience. The gardens are extensive and lush at it's very easy to just escape, 'chill out' and forget the world for a while. Gina, the Swiss owner, was a particularly charming and gracious host and her staff welcoming and very attentive. Additional and special thanks must go to John, her recommended driver and Ramadi (spelling perhaps incorrect) her recommended masseuse.
The food was very good, healthy and particularly enjoyable. Currently there is no pool but Gina told me she has plans for one in the near future. For some the location and its distance from Lovina (a 10 minute drive) may be a deterrent but the tranquility, lush gardens and great food more than compensate.
I certainly have no hesitation in recommending Sananda and had I not needed to return to Ubud I would gladly have stayed there an additional day or so.

We stayed at Sananda Bungalows as part of the VESTA project that aims to promote responsible tourism through a guidebook (www.vesta-project.com).
We chose Sananda because of its concept and philosophy, respecting its surrounding environment and the local people and could on site observe that this was all very consistent.
We recommend travelers looking for a delightful place out of the crowd from Lovina beach (1 hour walking) to stay at Sananda and enjoy its lush garden.
The balinese food they serve was excellent (go for the “nasi campur”) as well as the massage place they work with “Agung’s massages & saloon”.
From Sananda, you can also easily explore the hinterland.
Last but not least, we appreciated the welcoming and helpful people who work there. You will surely get the chance to chat with them and learn more about balinese culture during your stay.
