Off the beaten track, in the foothills that fringe the north coast of Bali, Villa Manuk is surrounded by beautiful countryside, tucked away in an idyllic valley of terraced rice fields. Backed by mountainous hills and forest, it is the ideal place for nature lovers who wish to discover the country life of Bali. Here life moves at a gentle pace. Paths meander through the rice fields, a tiny village, and around the valleys, following the contours of the hills. Nestled just outside the village at the top of the valley, looking out over (rice) fields, is Villa Manuk. The comfortably appointed bedrooms open onto large verandahs with views over the adjoining fields to the hills beyond. Comfortably furnished, the verandahs are perfectly secluded, ideal for relaxing with a book, sketching or writing. Just a short drive from Villa Manuk to the East, through the villages of Sawan and Bebetin, is the beautiful Sekumpul Waterfall, which makes a wonderful trek. And many more. Enjoy your stay.

My husband and I stayed here last minute for one night at the beginning of September. They were very accommodating with our reservation that was made the day before, and even were able to send a driver to the airport to pick us up and take us through the winding mountain roads to their location. We got there after dark, they gave us delicious welcome drinks, and were super helpful answering all of our questions. We stayed in the "bambu kupu-kupu" room, which was second floor and open to air with mesh curtains surrounding the glassless windows. This was very, very nice, had a really connected with nature/under the stars feel...except for the reason this review gets 4 stars...It. Was. Noisy....We had been travelling since 2AM from Sumatra and were very tired. It's not the villa's fault, but there were dogs barking, cats fighting, villagers talking loudly and, worst of all, a rooster that crowed literally all night long. My only suggestion to the villa is to please get a louder fan for the room and maybe keep the electricity on until at least midnight, if not all night. Or, maybe give complimentary ear plugs in the room. We were exhausted, but couldn't sleep :( If you're coming here, just bring some earplugs and/or a battery powered sound machine, then you should be good. We awoke to a beautiful mountain/rice paddy view and a lovely breakfast. Everyone who works there was very nice, and they also arranged the same driver to take us to Sekumpul and on to Ubud. We didn't try the pool, but it seemed clean, as were all the grounds.

My boyfriend and I travelled to Bali in the end of May and we started our adventures in North Bali with staying at Villa Manuk for our first night. The place was lovely, very relaxed far away from crowded touristy areas. I wish we had more days to spend there! The apartment was spacious, had the real Balinese atmosohere with its furniture, design, balcony and bathroom. Although there was no air conditioning built in, with a mobile fan the clima was ok, I did not feel too warm. The staff was super friendly, helpful and welcoming. Loved the pool for my morning swim which was in fact quite big. The breakfast was amazing, plentiful with delicious home made bread, yoghurt, omelette, fruits and juices. I'd definitely recommend!!!

I found out about the cottage from TA and booked through Agoda. I arrived late at night and the access to the place was cut due to damaged bridge. Luckily a friendly local show me the alternative route. Really enjoy the stay there event though only for a night. Friendly and professional staff, Clean room and great view. Choose the upstairs room if available. Fried rice and noodle and drinks are available. If you want to go to sekumpul and trek the area this cottage is the place to stay

For those who want to get away from modern life (no internet access even though they said it was limited) and just enjoy non adulterated surroundings, this is the place to be. Simplicity itself from the eggs/fruit/toast/juice breakfast to the totally open air bathrooms -if you are tall you can watch the rice harvest while you shower. They are happy for you to use their facilities to boil a kettle, put bits in the fridge etc and are all just so gentle and accommodating. The natural pool wasn't for me because of the colour, but my husband had a dip. Transfers are best arranged through the hotel as it really is off the beaten track - we hired a scooter and had an interesting time getting out and back. They will arrange trips, drivers, scooter hire etc. Meals are brought from their premises in Lovina and re-heated which sounded like it could be a problem but worked very well, just tell them what you want in the morning before you leave. I still miss the incredible ambience of the place, it was just so serene and the view from the restaurant was just magical. If you are a light sleeper, bring some very good earplugs as there is just a bamboo screen separating you from the jungle noises.
