We had a fantastic stay. The pool villa is beautiful and nicely furnished, and to have a private pool plus garden is just amazing. Also the public areas are very nice, the whole place is very calm and instantly felt like home for us. We were the only guests at the time, and the staff was amazing and helpful. The manager is the nicest person and gave us great recommendations. Location is a bit outside of Nusa Dua, so you need a driver to get around. But that also means it is very quiet and feels more like a family residence than a hotel. Location on a hill above the ocean means nice views and always a refreshing breeze from the sea. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and offered a choice between local options and some western food. Lunchtime snacks were just delicious. If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet place to relax and enjoy life, this is it. If you want to explore the area, the staff helps arrange transfers and tours. 100 percent recommended. We will miss it!…
If you want a genuinely warm, relaxing experience while in Bali, stay at The Shanti Residence. The resort is small and lovely, like you're staying at a really lovely friend's home, with caring and thoughtful staff. Mentioning the staff, they are understated but incredibly accommodating, a super combination. The Shanti is situated on a bluff, not directly on the ocean. But your viewpoint allows you to scan over a short distance of jungle out to the beauty of the Indian Ocean. That means it is quiet, except for nature sounds, and easy-going. With the small number of rooms comes a small number of guests. To me, that's a luxury. Don't be put off by the rutted road that leads to the resort. It's not a reflection on the resort, it's just a public infrastructure delay. Probably the best review I can give is that, before we even left the resort, we were planning our return trip. That's a high compliment from someone who usually doesn't return to a destination. Highly recommended. …
We got the Royal suite and we feel like royals. It has a huge entry way that could be used as an office. A big bedroom that walks out to its own pool. The bathroom was spacious with two vanities that walked out to an outdoor shower. This place is incredible and our stay is nothing short of amazing. The breakfast has been our absolute favorite. Probably the best we’ve had on vacation just bc it’s made to order and we’ve been having it in our room every morning. If you’re thinking about coming here please don’t hesitate. The amenities are great but the staff here are better. Nothing was too much for anyone. Shout out to all our butlers, we miss all four of them and our driver. Hope to see you again. Thank you for such a relaxing time!
I honestly don’t understand how anyone could rate this place less than 5 stars. I feel I am usually pretty critical of places but this place was amazing. Perhaps some people anticipate a sterilized western resort that has cleansed all of the local character away. The grounds are heavenly and constantly maintained by full time gardener. The staff is extremely professional, kind, and accommodating. We loved Putu and his brother Arya. The infinity pool is always the perfect temperature overlooking the ocean surrounded by tropical plants and butterflies. The food is both healthy and delicious. Tips: definitely upgrade to a private pool room if possible. Large room with lovely pool and outdoor shower. Book excursions through the hotel. Their staff can also take you on local tours and have very good English skills. The tours with did via the internet ahead of time were a waist of time and money with drivers that did not speak English or offer any ideas or cultural information. We learned more from the staff of the Shanti than in our tours. If you are up for an adventure and are physically fit asked to be shown the “stairs” down to the beach near the Asmara. It is actually at times treacherous path down a hill that in the past was used by seaweed farmers but now leads to a private unspoiled beach. From there you can hike down the beach to the Samabe Hotel and take a taxi back. Wear hiking shoes. Know that it is sometimes difficult to contact the hotel. My husband and I had fantastic time at the resort. We wanted a relaxing getaway and that’s what we got! We couldn’t have asked for more.... fantastic breakfast selections, great staff tending all our requests and needs during our stay (especially Arya and Nova, thank you again, you guys were wonderful!).... delicious menu options for lunch and dinner. During the day time we had the entire resort for ourselves to enjoy as other guests were out doing excursions around Bali !!! (One thing that could be improved is insect and fly situation when dining outdoors. Perhaps operating fans may chase them away?) But, overall, we couldn’t have been happier, it was sad to leave the resort and staff behind. Thanks for the wonderful time Shanghai Residence! Perhaps we’ll be back for more!
Great place and service. The restaurant was out of some items most days. driver was very helpful. Staff provided excellent service. The grounds were very well maintained. Get a villa with the plunge pools.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon here. The location of The Shanti Residence was not very great since the road was bumpy and a bit far from central Nusa Dua. However, they do provide a shuttle to take you to the main spots (Bali Collection, Water Blow, Nusa Dua Beach, etc). The place was very quiet and you could hear the birds every morning. We booked the private pool suite villa which was very nice and spacious. Our butler Arya was very friendly and helpful through our entire stay. He accommodated our every need. The food was delicious and well prepared every day. I would recommend coming here since it was very affordable and I had a positive experience overall.
Getting here is a little challenge because for the last kilometer or so is poor, bumpy road. But once we were inside the compound, we loved the beauty of the place and the friendliness and service orientation of the staff. The "butlers" were always waiting to see what they could do for us. They freely offered the company shuttle to take us anywhere in Nusa Dua, and sometimes even came to pick us up or stayed with us. The food was very good. The chef had obviously been very well trained in preparing and presenting the meals in attractive and delicious ways. There is a wide variety of foods from Indonesian to Western to fast foods and so on. The food was fresh. We loved our private pool, and used it nearly every day. One special amenity we had not counted on was the outside shower with plenty of nice warm water. Unfortunately we didn't use the giant bathtub, because the water pressure was low enough that we couldn't wait that long for it to fill. There are a lot of interesting things to do in the area. Each trip that we booked, the companies would come and pick us up at Shanti and bring us back. One downside that the management has no control over was the flies. That made dining by the pool a distraction during the day, although in the evening they didn't bother us. There was a fitness center with exercise bike, elliptical, and treadmill. There is also a spa for massages. Included in our package was a free massage for each of us. We felt very secure and special with only seven villas on the compound. A wonderful experience.…
The Shanti Residence is sold as a luxury beachfront property in beautiful surroundings. In fact the real surroundings are deleted from the pictures on the agent’s website. Ugly buildings are removed, lush green vegetation added. The truth is a villa located in an ugly area, poorly accessible by a bumpy road, with a construction site next door. The villa itself is poorly maintained. The tiles on the bottom of the swimming pool kept coming off, hurting the feet of our children. Other tiles had rough edges sticking out. Cables for lighting by the swimming pool were strung without proper isolation around trees poolside. Doors to the rooms did not close completely, leaving gaps through which insects can come in. Doors in the common area kept falling out of the guiding rails when we tried to close them. Dirty water came out of the taps. There was fungus in the showers, stains on the recliners in the pool area and so on and so forth. pictures: advertaising versus reality…
We booked all 7 suites for a family holiday.Beautiful staff, excellent food. Rooms very spacious and comfortable.airport pickups. Dont be alarmed when you go off the beaten track to the Shanti road not good. Would thoroughly recommend for an extended family vacation. Surrounding area not very appealing.
