The Flora Kuta Bali is a budget hotel slightly south of the beach and Jl. Legian in Kuta. It's about a five to ten minute walk to either. The hotel address is a little deceptive. There is a hotel sign on Jl. Bakungsari but this simply draws your attention to a narrow lane heading south; the hotel is on this lane. I'll attach a map. (I was told that the jalan's name has been changed; if so, no one has gotten around to changing the street signs, which still say Bakungsari.). The art market is one block away, at the western terminus of Balungsari.

The hotel has pluses and minuses; my overall rating of very good means very good for a small budget hotel. There's a Grand Hyatt and a Club Med down the road in Dusa Nua. No one would mistake the humble Flora for that calibre of luxury resort.

The pluses: great management and staff; they really go out of their way to take care of the guests. The staff arranged a car and driver for me for two days upcountry, and had me driven to the airport for 50,000 rupiah (the honest taxi fare there is 65,000, and some shady cabbies will charge tourists as much as 200,000.

Pleasant pool in a Balinese-theme garden. Very pleasant open air lobby. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. All upstairs rooms have balconies, either solely for that room or shared with an adjacent room. Lower story room have small sitting areas around the pool and garden. I would recommend the lower floor rooms.

Modern plumbing and large walk-in showers; most rooms get hot water; oddly enough, 209's water never got past lukewarm. Bottled water is supplied daily gratis.

Location is OK. It's an easy walk to either the beach or the disco area of Jl. Legian, without the continual traffic noise of the beachfront or skull-rattling rock music of Legian. The nearest Nura Nura bus stop is less than five minutes away.

Restaurant is on the second floor and is open air. Breakfast is relatively modest, but you can order an omelet, get fresh fruit and strong coffee. There's a small bar at street level, and two others just across the lane.

The minuses: no room safes. So passports et cetera can only be secured at the lobby in a common drawer. Not even separate lock boxes there.

No mini fridges, so no way to keep anything cold.

The bars on the lane all close about midnight, so do all businesses on Bakungsari except a few mini marts. I wouldn't recommend walking back to the Flora in the wee hours, particularly for single women. I was attacked by a thief on a dark stretch of Poppies II, (no harm done; the thief turned tail and scooted off as soon as I showed fight, but it did demonstrate that a few locals do prey on visitors at night.)

All in all the Flora is good value for money, and a good hotel for singles, couples, and families with children.

It serve our needs perfectly. Its budget hotel, not luxurious resort and it is not run down either. Good location, easy access to the beach, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. The hotel is clean and friendly, pool is small and filled with children. The deluxe room is good size, comfy bed, tube tv, has small bathroom and balcony. Free bfast with an ok choices. Paid 383.000 rupiah a night through agoda. A bit of tips : warung in front of hotel is pretty good. Pls do shop around to compare prices of car rental and tours. i Will recommend this hotel to family and friends.

We were a group of 10 people who had booked 4 rooms between 28th December to 31st December 202. The receptionist was very rude, unfriendly and showed us attitude. When asked about breakfast, she mentioned a hotel name and said all indians eat there and simply asked us to go there. The rooms were very very basic, bathroom had no tap, broken and had only a hand shower, the plug points were broken, they did not even have a kettle. In one room, the bathroom door was jammed, after complaining they rectified it, in another room the aircon was not working, when asked for an alternative room, they said they did not have one. If you are looking for little privacy, do not pick this hotel since the bathroom doesn't have a lock and some of the rooms have shared balcony. Be prepared for a stranger peeping through the balcony door when you are inside your room anytime. The reviews might be paid, because I felt the opposite after going there directly. Location is the only advantage since it is closer to the beach and city area, but they don't respect customers. Pls don't book this hotel. There are lots of hotels near by in the same area with better cost and better service.. I was not able to give zero rating, so gave 1... Pathetic hotel and pathetic receptionist.

Definitely a hidden gem. Located 10 minutes or so from the airport 250k rp in a bluebird taxi and down a little, but surprisingly busy road. 3* accommodation with a 5* welcome.
Room was basic, but clean and comfy.
Breakfast also basic, choices were rice, noodles or American. Incredibly tasty though.
Swimming pool, clean and clear and nice and refreshing after a day of walking around.
Location is perfect, just 10 minutes to walk to the beach and past the stalls and to all the restaurants and eateries.
Good value, really nice, would definitely stay here again.

My experience with this hotel is based on our stay one day ago (30/8/2012), so it's quiet recent.

We booked a taxi to the airport when we checked-in. When we got back from dinner, we wanted to change the time of booking, because we figured out we need more time to get to the airport. The new staff at the reception was completely confused and didn't know about any taxi booking, because the previous staff didn't remind them !!!
Then, at 3 AM when we woke up to take the taxi to the airport, the guy from the reception went to our room, so we asked again if he called the taxi. He said "yes, everything's ok" and went back to the reception. In a few minutes, he started to hysterically knocked on our door saying " madam, there is NO taxi tonight, because of the yesterday hindu ceremony, but if you want, i called my friend and he will take you to the airport - for 80 000 rupees". We know that the normal price of the taxi from this hotel to the airport (approx. 10 minutes) is about 15 000 rupees, so we figured out that's some kind of TRICK. Nevermind, we haven't any other possibility, because of the lack of time (he told us this information like 10 minutes before leaving the hotel !!!), so we took his friend taxi.
While going to the airport, we saw lot of blue taxi cars on the street, so obviously we were BETRAYED !!! And the goal at the end - when we payed to the taxi driver 100 000 rupees, he tried to pretend that he has no change back, so like if it's ok to keep the rest. When we got angry, he gave us the change back. BUT REALLY, THAT WAS A REALLY BAD JOKE !

Besides, the room was ok (if i pretend not to see the sand on the floor and the crapy bathroom), the room surrounding were really dirty and smelly. In the night, you can hear every little sound from the street and the hotel, so we didn't sleep at all. We didn't tried the local restaurant, so i hope there at least one thing positive in this hotel, but i highly doubt about it.

Anyway, we are independent travelers with backpacks, used to stay in every possible condition, but that for too much even for us.

WELL, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE FOOLED, DON'T GO TO THIS HOTEL :(

We had the worst experience at this hotel. When we booked the room we organised an extra bed for my daughter and a double bed for me and my partner. When we got to the room there were twin beds and no extra bed. We went to speak to the staff to explain and all they did was push the twin beds together and the bed they got my daughter was 2 old disgusting ripped mattresses with what looks like piss stains on it and the pillow was filthy. There was also no hot water and the shower had no water pressure. We decided to go to another hotel because we were all disgusted. The manager would not refund any of our money either.

Hi, we stayed there for 16 nights from 6 Oct to 22 Oct. Hotel arranged pick up from flight, drive with board waiting a promised, within 10 mins we at hotel, first impressions were good, shown to our deluxe room (104) near pool, well 3metres from pool, large clean room with fridge, tv, air con, large shower room. We were well pleased.
Breakfast area was clean and well laid out with buffet service, we enjoyed it all, pls remember your in Indonesia, so food is not what Europeans may normally expect, but everything was fresh and very tasty, we didn't complain once and we stayed 16nights!
The hotel manager did say they served the coldest and cheapest bintang in Kuta, and he was right!! Ice ice ice cold and only Rp14000 for small or Rp 24000 for a large bintang.
Staff were fantastic throughout, all smiles every day :-))
Rooms cleaned everyday. No faults at all. Pool was a dream, beautiful, we lazed around pool for 3 or 4 days and it was a little oasis. Overall we said it was a 5star service - fantastic for a long lazy stay and we only payed ÂŁ20 per night for a deluxe room.
Best part were the outstanding warungs close by within 2mins walk, food was fantastic and so so so cheap, try the warung directly opposite, great value and very friendly, some hot chilli's used and very tasty, meals for less than ÂŁ1.
Could not fault one thing, perfect for us, and we will be going back in October 2016!!

You'll be 100% safe. The lane is not that narrow, there are always many people walking up and down and the hotel is not farer than 50 mt. from the main road.
