The hotel has pluses and minuses; my overall rating of very good means very good for a small budget hotel. There's a Grand Hyatt and a Club Med down the road in Dusa Nua. No one would mistake the humble Flora for that calibre of luxury resort.
The pluses: great management and staff; they really go out of their way to take care of the guests. The staff arranged a car and driver for me for two days upcountry, and had me driven to the airport for 50,000 rupiah (the honest taxi fare there is 65,000, and some shady cabbies will charge tourists as much as 200,000.
Pleasant pool in a Balinese-theme garden. Very pleasant open air lobby. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. All upstairs rooms have balconies, either solely for that room or shared with an adjacent room. Lower story room have small sitting areas around the pool and garden. I would recommend the lower floor rooms.
Modern plumbing and large walk-in showers; most rooms get hot water; oddly enough, 209's water never got past lukewarm. Bottled water is supplied daily gratis.
Location is OK. It's an easy walk to either the beach or the disco area of Jl. Legian, without the continual traffic noise of the beachfront or skull-rattling rock music of Legian. The nearest Nura Nura bus stop is less than five minutes away.
Restaurant is on the second floor and is open air. Breakfast is relatively modest, but you can order an omelet, get fresh fruit and strong coffee. There's a small bar at street level, and two others just across the lane.
The minuses: no room safes. So passports et cetera can only be secured at the lobby in a common drawer. Not even separate lock boxes there.
No mini fridges, so no way to keep anything cold.
The bars on the lane all close about midnight, so do all businesses on Bakungsari except a few mini marts. I wouldn't recommend walking back to the Flora in the wee hours, particularly for single women. I was attacked by a thief on a dark stretch of Poppies II, (no harm done; the thief turned tail and scooted off as soon as I showed fight, but it did demonstrate that a few locals do prey on visitors at night.)
All in all the Flora is good value for money, and a good hotel for singles, couples, and families with children.

Room was basic, but clean and comfy.
Breakfast also basic, choices were rice, noodles or American. Incredibly tasty though.
Swimming pool, clean and clear and nice and refreshing after a day of walking around.
Location is perfect, just 10 minutes to walk to the beach and past the stalls and to all the restaurants and eateries.
Good value, really nice, would definitely stay here again.

breakfast is poor, could be better. they have only bread and butter as breakfast.
room size is big and neat for the price.
We booked a taxi to the airport when we checked-in. When we got back from dinner, we wanted to change the time of booking, because we figured out we need more time to get to the airport. The new staff at the reception was completely confused and didn't know about any taxi booking, because the previous staff didn't remind them !!!
Then, at 3 AM when we woke up to take the taxi to the airport, the guy from the reception went to our room, so we asked again if he called the taxi. He said "yes, everything's ok" and went back to the reception. In a few minutes, he started to hysterically knocked on our door saying " madam, there is NO taxi tonight, because of the yesterday hindu ceremony, but if you want, i called my friend and he will take you to the airport - for 80 000 rupees". We know that the normal price of the taxi from this hotel to the airport (approx. 10 minutes) is about 15 000 rupees, so we figured out that's some kind of TRICK. Nevermind, we haven't any other possibility, because of the lack of time (he told us this information like 10 minutes before leaving the hotel !!!), so we took his friend taxi.
While going to the airport, we saw lot of blue taxi cars on the street, so obviously we were BETRAYED !!! And the goal at the end - when we payed to the taxi driver 100 000 rupees, he tried to pretend that he has no change back, so like if it's ok to keep the rest. When we got angry, he gave us the change back. BUT REALLY, THAT WAS A REALLY BAD JOKE !
Besides, the room was ok (if i pretend not to see the sand on the floor and the crapy bathroom), the room surrounding were really dirty and smelly. In the night, you can hear every little sound from the street and the hotel, so we didn't sleep at all. We didn't tried the local restaurant, so i hope there at least one thing positive in this hotel, but i highly doubt about it.
Anyway, we are independent travelers with backpacks, used to stay in every possible condition, but that for too much even for us.
WELL, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE FOOLED, DON'T GO TO THIS HOTEL :(
Breakfast area was clean and well laid out with buffet service, we enjoyed it all, pls remember your in Indonesia, so food is not what Europeans may normally expect, but everything was fresh and very tasty, we didn't complain once and we stayed 16nights!
The hotel manager did say they served the coldest and cheapest bintang in Kuta, and he was right!! Ice ice ice cold and only Rp14000 for small or Rp 24000 for a large bintang.
Staff were fantastic throughout, all smiles every day :-))
Rooms cleaned everyday. No faults at all. Pool was a dream, beautiful, we lazed around pool for 3 or 4 days and it was a little oasis. Overall we said it was a 5star service - fantastic for a long lazy stay and we only payed ÂŁ20 per night for a deluxe room.
Best part were the outstanding warungs close by within 2mins walk, food was fantastic and so so so cheap, try the warung directly opposite, great value and very friendly, some hot chilli's used and very tasty, meals for less than ÂŁ1.
Could not fault one thing, perfect for us, and we will be going back in October 2016!!
