If stagnant ponds, mosquito bites, centuries old sofas , the smell of urine and deception tickle your fancy then look no further than the Pecatu guest house. After a saddening experience In the komodos, caused by the weather cancelling all trips, 3 friends lusted for an escape from an escape and uluwatu appeared to be the best fit. Having done a scout of all the accommodation, we were lured to Pecatu guesthouse. The pictures promised a lavish pool, a deluxe garden view suite, gym, hygienic common area and tropical greenery. What fools we were. Chapter 1. The pool. Don’t be mislead by the piercing blue water of the “pool” in the pictures. After putting on our finest swimwear, we rushed to relieve ourselves from the startling heat to what can only be described as a swamp. Who knows what was living in there, even the owners can’t tame that pool. Chapter 2. The “deluxe” garden view suite. Attempting to offset the disappointment, we threw on our cover ups and retreated with excitement to our room hoping to bask in the tropical greenery on our balcony. Even the journey there proved eventful, further crushing our optimism. Wading our way through mouldy mattresses, wearying walls and general disrepair. This set the tone for what was to come. Sheets stained with all manner of different bodily fluids, fractured tiles, damp and utterly revolting en suite, prompting the question whether this room was cleaned for our arrival, or if it had ever been cleaned at all. Chapter 3. The common area. To prevent ourselves going into a further spiral of depression, we sought refuge in the common area, only to be greeted with further misery. There was nothing common about this room; Laden with mosquitoes, ancient decor, rotting upholstery and a filthy dining area saw us reach the end of our teather. Chapter 4. Light in the swamp of darkness. With respect, some of the amenities are present and nearly reach standard. Fully functioning WiFi in the common areas only. A table tennis table that has survived the ages and the purest of dogs, far too pure for Pecatu. Furthermore there always the option to check out early and end the ordeal and suffering, obviously without a refund. To conclude, we did in fact check out early. Ridden with mosquito bites, in desperate need to shower and quite frankly, angry at ourselves for being deceived to such extreme. If there is one mission we have, it is to make sure no one has to endure the anguish and despair the pit of pecatu offers.…
This place is amazing! I was planning on stay for a week but ended up staying fir months! Such a great vibe here. Super cool people. I’ve made life long friends at this hostel. Definitely the highlight of my SEA trip. The places draws the best kind of crowd I’ve ever met in Bali. Incredibly friendly and caring staffs. They’re like family to me now. The staffs are so sweet they surprised me with a cake on my birthday! I couldn’t recommend this place enough! If you’re looking for a great time with awesome peeps, don’t hesitate. Stay here. This place is the reason why I ended up staying in Bali for 7 months! Can’t wait to be back. This place holds a very special spot in my heart.
The hostel only accepts cash and it was a good price for what we had. Breakfast is not included but it is not expensive. I ate fruit salads for about 2 USD. The common area is nice for socializing. Our room was okay, but not great. You can rent a motorcycle at the hostel and the beaches are about a 10 min moto ride from there.
Nothing about the rooms will wow you, but this budget friendly accommodation blew my mind. The helpful staff made my trip go from good to amazing. Stayed here a couple years ago now but can never forget the banana pancakes and hungover pool sessions!!
We thought the guest house looked like a lovely budget hotel for a couple travelling. We did not get what we paid for, the room was very basic and the tv/ in room safe didn't work (no satellite). The bathroom was the worst we've ever seen with the drain leaking and flooding the bathroom making it smell really bad in our room. There was mould everywhere in the property and even had some mushrooms (must be poisonous) growing out of it. There was no hot water showers even though they said there was. The wifi only worked in the lobby not in the rooms. You will need to rent a scooter from the property if you want to go anywhere and they charged us almost the same price as the bike as for a helmet. Just feel completely ripped off.
