the rooms are nice and big, clean, bathroom is functional, staff are very friendly, but with limited english, i have stayed there twice over the years,in December and in February but the reason i will not stay there anymore is that the air cons are useless, they dont cool the room, but if you stay there during the dry season, you wont need air con and the hostel is about 200 meters from the beach, great view from the rooftop viewing deck.

ONE OF TWO** BUDGET PRICED PLACES LEFT IN THE IMMEDIATE BEACH AREA PLUSES – not a hostel: more like a 70s motel; spacious comfortable well equipped rooms r good value; only 50m from stairs to beach; very quiet at night despite some reviews down page; cold showers great for climate; small street level shop for basics; beachfront restaurant has great sand and ocean views + budget prices; good hotel-restaurant service (except cooky). NEGATIVES – cold showers abhorred by many: bit of a hike to nearest “supermart”; bit of a hike to restaurant; stairs to beach and restaurant not great for 73yo busted knees. Fitness-challenged dudes will be underwhelmed; breakfast not inclusive: cook 1 hr late one morning; roof-top terrace wasted potential although views more limited than thought; local taxi mafia enforces no pick ups – charges way too much. VERDICT – I’ll stay again next BALANGAN visit. TIPS – breakfasters can avoid steps to beach + late cook by walking a fairly flat 350m to FLOWERBUD 1 in the lane up behind the beach for a not too exxy US brekka in a nice setting (bit more for the buffet) - similar food/drink prices to PARADISE restaurant + better vibe and view of surf action s600M west at back-of-sand warungs. **see TRIPADVISOR reviews on FINS NERNI

I stayed at this hostel for 6 nights in October and had a lovely stay. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. No, there was no hot water in my room but I had done my research and knew this before I booked. The water pipes warmed up during the day anyway so the water was warm for an evening shower. And seriously it was $23 Australian a night. There was no daily room service but you only had to ask and your room was cleaned for you that day. The other reviews about this property are correct with the local chickens and roosters making a bit of news at night and early in the morning but as I am a country person this did not bother me at all. The little shop next to the Hostel sold basic supplies and "very" cold drinks and was open long hours. Staff again were friendly. Transport was a bit expensive for Bali but again I had done my research beforehand so knew this and I did still barter for my transport. All drivers were safe and friendly. I "loved" the simple life at Balangan. Walk down the stairs from the hostel to the beach and you have a whole row of Warangs for meals and cold drinks. I ate at quite a few of them. Very cheap, simple food. If you need to get away and have no problems with living the simple life then this is the place to go. Eat, sleep, swim, surf and have a massage on the beach then wake up the next day and do it all again. Very refreshing.

Clean room. Near to the beach. No hot water but the weather was fine though. Everything seemed to be perfect until they gave me an offense. I wasn't allowed to lift a couple to Ubud unreasonably. The hostel-boys (that work for the taxi assistance) told me that they have already made an agreement to lift them (the couple) by their taxi and gave them the best deal, Where actually there was no agreement at all. The couple just asked about the price. The boys threated me and forced me to refuse riding them so the couple could still go with their taxi and pay. What's up with them? Is it a chain gang or what? Scary, it is.

Paradise is a simple hotel that's a two minute walk to Balangan beach. Ac in each room and spotty wifi. Cheap for the location though, USD$20 ish per night. There are restaraunts on the beach within 10-15 minutes from the hotel. The only warning I have is that Balangan and Paradise are fairly remote and drivers/taxis are pricey. We got N Uber which was 1/2 the cost literally, but Uber is spotty in different areas of Bali and I wouldn't count on it all the time. That being said, Paradise can call a taxi for you.
