We stayed at La Joya for a few nights in July 2019 during our holiday to Bali. We have previously stayed at La Joya "Biu Biu" ("La Joya 2") and therefore had been visiting La Joya previously for eating at the restaurant using the free shuttle between the resorts. Overall La Joya is very nice. The bungalows are very good and clean. Having the bunglow's bathroom in a semi outdoor setting may scare some off as "anybody" in the resort would be able to walk into the garden and stand next to the "window" (open window) when you are in the bathroom. Now I don't think this is a big problem, but if you are the person that wants 100% privacy this is worth considering. One part that is really good with La Joya is the proximity to the Balangan beach. This beach although still catering a lot for tourists, still has a more chilled and less "touristy" vibe than for example Bingin beach. Except for the nearby Balangan beach, there is not much in this area. There are a number of other resorts, some restaurants and bars, but this is quite "off" from the Seminyak crowds and dust. If you want to go to places, your options are to hire a private driver, ask the resort to hire a private driver or rent a motorbike. La Joya does not rent motorbikes, but there are a few nearby places that does this. Please note that neither taxis nor Grab is available on this area of the Bali island. Overall our experience of the restaurant was good but not amazing or exceptional in any way. We would not recommend the pizza here as it is some sort of more simple flatbread option that we got. You can definitely get better pizzas nearby. Breakfast was good, but the special coffee such as espresso isn't up to standards if you are used to a "real" espresso and not the "corporate office" sort of coffee machine. If you are choosing between La Joya and La Joya Biu Biu, we would definitely recommend La Joya Biu Biu as it has better views, a nicer restaurant setting and more impressive pools. You will most likely however have to deal with all the social media influencers wanting to shoot the perfect picture there, while as La Joya is less picture perfect and hence feels more calm. The deal winner for us however, was when we discovered the new spa at La Joya Biu Biu (opened spring/early summer 2019) which is situated on the cliffs down from the resort. That spa has the best views we have ever encountered and is also accompanied by the sounds of the ocean waves. If you cannot get a bungalow at La Joya Biu Biu, you can still book the spa and spend a few hours at La Joya Biu Biu using the free shuttle between the resorts. The La Joya staff will happily help out with reservations for the La Joya Biu Biu Spa.

We stayed at La Joya "by mistake" as we moved all of a sudden after a nearby accommodation in Balangan became a bit unbearable. We felt extremely lucky to have found a room and had a wonderful stay. Our bungalow was clean, spacious, well designed and had a huge garden. We were at number 8, between the cliff and the spa. The place looks very cute, with water features, nice paths, plants everywhere, all around well maintained. There are two swimming pools and two times a day one can join a yoga class (morning next to the pool and evening on the cliff at sunset). We had lunch a couple of times there and found a great choice, nice dishes, even smaller and healthier options. Breakfast was superb. We stayed in this area for part of our trip to Bali as one of us is a surfer, so we knew that nightlife and shops are far away, not an issue. The place can rent you a scooter or a taxi to go to other places. Wonderful view on Balangan beach and the ocean. PS: the staff remembers your name when they greet you around :)

I have been traveling for over 20 years. This is my first time writing a review of this kind. We booked the room through airbnb and upon receiving the confirmation we noticed from its name that this was a hotel we had seen on other booking platforms. Except, photos were different and airbnb page didn’t mention hotel’s name. Here comes the weird part: The room’s actual rate is 1.6m per night everywhere, so 3.2m for two nights. However, we paid 5.7m via airbnb and 4.9m is what hotel receive after fees and commissions. I assumed there might have been a mistake. When I mentioned it to a senior employee, she said it actually looked like they were overcharging us. First she blamed airbnb system but eventually she contacted her colleague who is managing their airbnb account. When I met her, the only thing I heard was that they have different prices on different platforms (which makes sense). However, that difference is almost a whooping %100 extra. This doesn’t make sense. I asked for a partial refund that would make me feel least conned. I understand it can be 10, 20, 30 percent more. But NOT %100!! They kept saying price was agreed during booking etc. So basically we ended up paying almost double the actual amount. The difference is equal to the minimum monthly salary in Indonesia. With this “Let’s rip off whoever we can rip off” mentality, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay at this place.

good resort on the cliff top. Nicely designed. The views are very good, the beach is just a stroll down the stairs. However, the place is far, so enjoy the view, soak in the atmosphere while at the resort as the city is a little a far away and travel is expensive from Bali standards. Food is good, the pizzas were very nice, loved them. The 2 pools are also nice, we relaxed for most part of our stay. Bui Bui, the other resort from La joya with much better views was fully occupied due to wedding so access was not possible however free shuttle to the resort is provided. Spa is ordinary, and basic, no air condition in Spa so was not comfortable. Rest was nice, loved my stay in here.

Dear Anchal, Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to write your personal review about La Joya - Balangan Resort. Indeed our resort is located quite remotely and many city dwellers do get a little intimidated, especially at night, with the journey from the airport to our resort, as they normally perceive it as "off the beaten track". But once they get to the resort, many times they tell us the journey was all worth it. Our strategic location (being close to Balangan Beach/ Pantai Balangan) and the beautiful Bali sunset that can be enjoyed by our main pool area makes our resort the choice of accommodation for many families and most of them are our repeating guests. Due to the remoteness of the resort, we add value to our guests experience by extending the facilities in our sister resort (La Joya Biu Biu) which is located 3 minutes drive from us, whenever possible. I have noted on your feedback regarding our Spa service. We would have loved to hear your feedback directly while you are staying with us so that our team would have taken the opportunity to rectify the issue and made your spa experience much better. With this we hope to welcome you again and to create a more memorable stay.
