Run by friendly family, clean and nice place to stay. walking distance from assigath, shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. Very good homemade breakfast and able to do yoga on the rooftop in the early morning with owner. Registration comes with masala tea.

The place is family run. The owners are very nice. The landlady was warm and motherly and she made us nice non spicy dinner which we appreciated a lot.
The room was clean and there is a lot of greenery. The only downpoint would be the distance to the main ghats.

The family that runs the Maruti Guest House are so nice. We had several of their home cooked meals, which were some of the best we had during our whole stay in India. They offered many suggestions on where to go in Varanasi. Unfortunately for us is was the hottest time of the year and made us not want to go out exploring as much as we would have liked.

Trupti and her two children Shruti and Saatchi deserve an honourable mention. Trupti offers massages and handmade jewelry and clothing which she designs. Shruti is a very intelligent and creative young lady? Little Saatchi is full of energy and loves to play. It was great to be around them after so much time in regular hotels. Made you feel really at home.

Because it was the low season, they offered us a room with AC at no extra charge and they let us stay a few hours after our check out time too cause it was so incredibly hot. It was generous of them and really appreciated.

The rooms are very standard and occasionally attracts some critters. We had a lizard in the room with us- some people wouldn't like this. You should bring all of your own amenities, including towels. I believe you can purchase these from the family, but we didn't need to.

All in all we are pleased with our stay. The rest of the family is just as nice and will give you insider knowledge on where to go/what to do. Enjoy your stay.

The rooms are not great. They are super basic with a very hard bed but you will feel like at home thanks to the nicest family we met in India. They gave us so many information about Varanasi. They even drew a map for us. They were very helpful when my boyfriend got sick (asking their driver not to go anywhere in case we will need him to give us a lift to the hospital during the night). If you are not fussy with comfort but are looking for friendly homey place then Maruti guesthouse is for you.
Last thing: it gets pretty loud at night but I think it's like that everywhere in Varanasi.

Being greeted at 11pm at night by a bubbly simling gentleman instantly lifted my spirits after a long journey. got shown our room, we had a choice of 2 with no extra charges on either, comfortable bed and a large bathroom, not much else you could ask for until you go upstairs for breakfast and meet the rest of the family who are just as welcoming and friendly and the food is great. Papu's map and advice made the maze of Varanasi a walk in the park and not once did we feel unwelcome in the guesthouse. very close to the Ghats and an easy walk to the markets. Can't recommend it enough!

Might not be perfect fit for all, but my expectations are simple, and this fit them quite nicely. The rooms are very simple and provide the basics: bathroom, bed and mosquito coils. You should plan to bring everything else, or expect to borrow or purchase from the family. I.e. toilet paper, apparently blankets when it is cold, a lock for your door, and perhaps other items not coming to mind. It would be kind of them to tell you what you should bring that is commonly expected by Westerners such as the above, but that may be the trade-off.

The family was lovely and helpful whenever possible. Hard working. They are their own restaurant, so if you want food from them you should ask in advance and expect it to take time. India being India, expect power outages to interrupt/delay things at the most inopportune moment. Staying here gives you the option of a more personalized experience if you wish, in that you can visit with the family on the kitchen roof area, the kids are outgoing, offers of massages (and compliments for them) are written and taped on the wall, and clothing and jewelry and cooking lessons to boot. Indian families trying to make a living for themselves.

Location: not in the middle of the crowded markets or right next to the Ganga river, but not terribly distant from them, either. I think it strikes a decent balance. It is hard to be away from noise in India, but this place does a decent job of that.

The hotel is in a good location only 10 minutes wak from Assi Ghat. The family that run it are very firendly and willing to advise and answer questions that you might have. The roof top terrace is very simple and basic, but a lovely place to sit in the sun. Food cooked with love. I booked the most expensive room and was very disappointed with it in comparison to other rooms (a fellow companion took a cheaper room). With a a quick look rooms look clean, but infact cleanliness is poor. I had constant problems with the shower which was not fixed during a 4 night stay, which meant the bathroom floor was always with a large pool of water.

Very Friendly atmosphere.. very close to assi ghat and rooms are clear and accommodating, the only gripe I have is that they should offer blankets without being asked.. I had no idea it would be soo cold.. i almost froze to dead.. thank God i had little of what i took...otherwise i would have had to thawed myself after i checked out.. brrrr... other than that.. everything is just what you pay for.."NOT GREAT BUT GOOD"..

This little family hostel is wonderful. The rooms are small but clean, really cheap too. The family are so lovely and welcoming, the food is amazing home cooked food by Tripti and her mother, the kids are very cute, you can have cooking lessons with them, and a massage with home made oils. We felt so at home and we were just around the corner from Assi Ghat. Don't let the entrance or tuk tuk drivers put you off. We couldn't wait to back for a day just to see them and relax for a bit. We are so glad we found it.
