Go figure that, after two months in India, one of my favourite nights was in sleepy little Sarnath with Dr. Jain. I wasn't blown away at first. With bare walls, cracked floors and only a partially-covered roof, the guesthouse was easily the most austere I encountered in all of India. The rooftop bedroom is unfurnished with an old bed, desk,... More

I liked Jains Paying Guest House very much. It has an excellent homey atmosphere. It is a good value. The thalis are magnificent! There is a nice common area where you can eat thali and talk with other guests or people who come there for the thalis. You can also get tea or a cool lemon drink. There's a water... More

This is one of the best guesthouses I've ever stayed at in India. Dr. Jain and his family are incredibly sweet and friendly, the food is delicious (150 Rs for thali) and they will do whatever they can to help you. I loved my evening conversations with Dr. Jain and if I ever go back to Sarnath, I'll definitely stay... More

It's not daramsala. Price 400 rupees per double bed room, only cold water, dinner 150 rupees a rice dish, big room. Nice and helpful owner. Silient place. Reserved electric supply. Normal place for motorcycle parking. Located at fence of main Sarnath buddhist temple on small street. One problem, it's access to Varanasi. No public transport to Varanasi (you can try... More

This is the best guesthouse I had ever visited in my life! 1- the rooms are clean, comfortable and cheap. 2- the food provided is healthy, excellent and strictly vegetarian. Most of the vegetables used are grown in the field owned by the host family and they taste just great. The kitchen is tidy and the food is prepared with... More

I only slept a night there in winter 2013, but they deserve credit because this humble and peaceful property is a quiet haven from the rumbling of Varanasi. I arrived at dusk and the owner gave me a flawless room to sleep in. I didn't even have to check in, and that was a gesture which I appreciated. They have... More

Food is served on the top floor with paying in advance & get the token. System is very good & homely food. Its very near to the temple & walkable distance. Varanasi itself is very crowed, but this hotel is on the very road. Parking is really big problem. Once we entered into this hotel, one feel very comfortable.

We stayed two nights in Sarnath so we weren't rushed seeing the sites and could feel the energy of the place and the pilgrims. It was a nice change to a quieter environment compared to the hectic Varanasi. You can indeed hear the chant of Buddha's first sermon from the rooms at Dr Jain's and peak into the dear park.... We stayed one week with Dr. Jain and it was fantastic. The spacious and clean room had a charming balcony and private bathroom. This guesthouse is a heartwarming family place with great hospitality. The delicious vegetarian thali dishes are carefully prepared and served by Jains friendly wife and giggling daughters. Looking forward to visit this wonderful guesthouse again. Sarnath, only... I stayed with Dr. Jain and his family for over a week, and it was lovely. Sarnath is a great escape from Varanasi if it all gets too much. The food we shared around Dr Jain's house was wonderful. Please do eat there as it's great. We also visited one of the great education projects there, with Tripti Jain. A... More
