From the moment we walked in to the Little Garden Guest House we were made to feel like one of the family and nothing was ever a problem. We loved the opportunity to enjoy traditional Indian breakfasts made by Tina and her mum and the chats over breakfast with Akshay and his dad. We could not recommend this guest house...

Fantastic family run guest house. Comfortable bed, good wi fi, shower was ok (got to be quick before the hot water runs out), breakfast is simple but freshly made, close to attractions (city palace / lake / good restaurants). Manager (whose English is excellent) was polite and really helpful with our questions. Would definitely stay there again.

I cannot express enough how wonderful our stay with Akshay and his lovely family was. You read about the warmth and hospitality of the people of Udaipur, but this was a whole other level. From Akshay's dad to his sweet sister, to the kindly gentleman who serves breakfast, the stay was so lovely. Rooms were spotless and comfortable. Common areas...

I stayed for only one night while passing through. I had a lovely room on the ground floor. The room was large, clean and freshly and well decorated. The bathroom was well equipped and clean. The complimentary wi-fi worked and a simple Indian breakfast was included in the room rate. The family were all very friendly and welcoming. It was...

Our stay here was fantastic. You can't tell from the outside, but it is gorgeous and full of ambience. The hosts took amazing care of us, which proved especially helpful in Udaipur. They provided us with breakfast and tea and and fruit and water, gave us recommendations and directions, helped us get stuff back that we'd lost in a taxi,...

We couldn't have been happier with our stay, Akshay and his family were lovely and welcoming. The rooms (each individually decorated from a certain time) were beautiful and clean, and it was nice to stay in a traditional house. The communal breakfast was a refreshing touch, and it was a great way to start the day sitting and chatting with...

I had trouble finding a hotel/haveli with availability in Udaipur, and I was starting to worry when I found the page for Little Garden Guest House. The rooms and common spaces exceeded my expectations, and I could not imagine anything better. The Guest House is a little oasis in the center of Udaipur, in easy waking distance to the main...

Akshay and his family have created a small, lovely jewel in the heart of the old city in Udaipur. Many places in the area call themselves a haveli, a traditional townhouse or mansion, but Little Garden has all the attributes. Lovingly restored with first quality materials and craftsmanship, filled with family heirlooms, and decorated with beautiful wall paintings by local...

My husband and I spent two wonderful nights at Little Garden, a delightful six-room home stay run by Ashkay and his family. The location is wonderful - just a five minute walk to the Palace, in a maze of interesting little alleys, and Ashkay was generous with his time - helping us find an open ATM (Rs 500 and 1,000...

Traditional building that's been beautifully restored to turn into a homestay run by Akshay and his family. Thick walls painted white and with tiling and lovely little features and beautiful wall paintings. Bed quite comfortable (the usual foam squabs though), AC and fan good. Room and ensuite quite small so no cupboards or much room for bags/clothes etc. Some supplies...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Little Garden Guesthouse is nestled at the base of Udaipur's renowned City Palace in the heart of the Old City. Each room is individually fitted out with tasteful and eclectic furniture and fittings, most of which are family heirlooms. Fair-trade women's cooperative handcrafted bed covers, cushions and curtains complement the decor. The street in which the 250 year old heritage house or haveli is located, Kavi Rao Mohan Singh, is named after an ancestor of the family and is a comfortable sanctuary just off Bhattiyani Chouhtta, a fascinating market street lined with handicrafts stalls. We invite you to nest and rest in one of our two spacious bedrooms (11x17ft). You can curl up reading in cushioned bay-windows or sprawl out for a siesta on firm double beds with freshly laundered linen. Each room is decorated with eclectic handicrafts, antiques and textiles. Little Garden is newly renovated, so our bathroom facilities are clean and reliable. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with western toilet and a running hot shower available 24 hours a day. We will happily provide clean towels and new bed linen at your request. In addition to our simple but charming heritage rooms, Little Garden has two spacious terraces from which panoramic views of the City Palace and verdant Aravali Hills can be taken in. It is a perfect place to experience the nightly sound and light show which sets the Palace ablaze, watch the buzzing rooftop life of the Old City, or rest-up with a book, drink or meal happily provided by your hosts (upon request). Of course, our little garden courtyard is also a lovely shady place to pass time. The traditional layout of our home (several rooms arranged around open courtyards) is perfect for the independently minded traveller who also wants to experience the life and hospitality of a local family. You may come and go from our rooms as you please as they each have a private entrance from the little garden courtyard. As our family are descendants of a renowned poet who served in the royal court of Mewar and shared a close relationship with the then King (Maharana), our home was gifted to our ancestor by the royal family. It is thus located very centrally, just 5 minutes walk to the palace and other heritage highlights of Udaipur, such as: Jagdish Temple- Built from marble in C17th and dedicated to 'Jagdish' or Vishnu (Lord and protector of the universe), this is Udaipur's most notable and beautiful Hindu temple. Gangaur Ghat - A complex of Shiva temples perched on the bank of Pichola Lake where the annual Gangaur festival unique to Rajasthan is commemorated. Also a wonderful spot to observe the rituals of daily life, the gorgeous Lake Palace and Jag Mandir island. Ayurvedic Hospital- Provides free consultations, daily yoga classes and mud therapy.Rose Garden- The favoured place for locals to picnic and exercise. Many handicrafts, vegetable and spice markets. Who we are: Hi there, my name is Akshay. My parents Gajendra and Vimla, my younger sister Tina and I would like to invite you to share in the joy of our local culture, architecture and landscape from a unique vantage point- our family home! I recently established 'Little Garden Guesthouse' to provide an income for my retired Mum and Dad, assist in maintaining our heritage property, and to entertain my love of imparting local knowledge! I have 6 years experience assisting travellers seeking out the best of Udaipur. Whilst you stay with us I will be available to ensure that your room is comfortable and your city wanderings rewarding! I look forward to your expressions of interest. Thank you :) ... more   less
