This home stay is at the heart of City of lakes - Udaipur. Its a small cozy place that gives you the flavour of the ethnic Rajasthan. > Pros: The tastefully designed rooms Hospitality of Akshay & his family Accessibility to the place > Cons: As far as the home stay is concerned I should admit there are none. But... More

We were planning a short surprise holiday for a friend who was getting married in a couple of weeks. The accommodation for one night was already decided and we still had to book rooms for another night. I was sold when I saw the pictures and the review of Little Garden Guest House. My other friend who was managing the... More

I was in from a long 7 hour train ride from Jaipur and arrived late at around 22:00. I was treated to a nice home cooked meal which hit the spot considering I wasn't about to start exploring at that time, even though I was really hungry. Very nice family, nice area, nice place, and nice stay!!

This is what is good about Trip Advisor. If it didn’t exist, we (two couples) would never have known about The Little Garden Guest House -- and it would have been our loss. The Rao family has turned a portion of its haveli (in the family since the 1850s) into 6 lovely guest rooms where we spent 4 wonderful nights.... More

I stayed at Little Garden for 3 nights and it was the best place I have stayed in India by a long way. Akshay and his family were fantastic hosts and made a huge effort to make sure I felt welcome - nothing was too much trouble and they made sure I had a great time in Udapuir by giving... More

This was my second time staying at the Little Garden Guesthouse and I am speechless. After my first stay I thought it would be hard to be as impressed again, but they managed to do it. It was great to see the family again and their hospitality is out of this world. Every morning you get greeted with Jajendra's amazing... More

Little Garden was the best choice in Udaipur and the nicest guesthouse/hotel i've stayed in in India. It's centrally located behind the city palace. So everything is in walking distance. It's small with only 6 rooms but that makes it very personal and authentic. Akshay and his family are really lovely, caring, courteous, sociable and funny. The offered tea any... More

Wonderful guesthouse in a fantastic location, centrally located but further away from the tourist traps. Akshay is a top geez, and can help you with anything in the city - be sure to ask him for recommendations for things to see/do. The rooms are large and very comfortable with good bathrooms and decent a/c. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Brilliant.

There is no doubt that Akshay and his family have worked hard to maintain this old haveli in a style and condition that his great-great-grandfather, an academic, poet and warrior to the Royal Palace, would be proud off. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the hospitality given by the family is both gracious and generous. Look no further if... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Little Garden Guesthouse is nestled at the base of Udaipur's renowned City Palace in the heart of the Old City. Each room is individually fitted out with tasteful and eclectic furniture and fittings, most of which are family heirlooms. Fair-trade women's cooperative handcrafted bed covers, cushions and curtains complement the decor. The street in which the 250 year old heritage house or haveli is located, Kavi Rao Mohan Singh, is named after an ancestor of the family and is a comfortable sanctuary just off Bhattiyani Chouhtta, a fascinating market street lined with handicrafts stalls. We invite you to nest and rest in one of our two spacious bedrooms (11x17ft). You can curl up reading in cushioned bay-windows or sprawl out for a siesta on firm double beds with freshly laundered linen. Each room is decorated with eclectic handicrafts, antiques and textiles. Little Garden is newly renovated, so our bathroom facilities are clean and reliable. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with western toilet and a running hot shower available 24 hours a day. We will happily provide clean towels and new bed linen at your request. In addition to our simple but charming heritage rooms, Little Garden has two spacious terraces from which panoramic views of the City Palace and verdant Aravali Hills can be taken in. It is a perfect place to experience the nightly sound and light show which sets the Palace ablaze, watch the buzzing rooftop life of the Old City, or rest-up with a book, drink or meal happily provided by your hosts (upon request). Of course, our little garden courtyard is also a lovely shady place to pass time. The traditional layout of our home (several rooms arranged around open courtyards) is perfect for the independently minded traveller who also wants to experience the life and hospitality of a local family. You may come and go from our rooms as you please as they each have a private entrance from the little garden courtyard. As our family are descendants of a renowned poet who served in the royal court of Mewar and shared a close relationship with the then King (Maharana), our home was gifted to our ancestor by the royal family. It is thus located very centrally, just 5 minutes walk to the palace and other heritage highlights of Udaipur, such as: Jagdish Temple- Built from marble in C17th and dedicated to 'Jagdish' or Vishnu (Lord and protector of the universe), this is Udaipur's most notable and beautiful Hindu temple. Gangaur Ghat - A complex of Shiva temples perched on the bank of Pichola Lake where the annual Gangaur festival unique to Rajasthan is commemorated. Also a wonderful spot to observe the rituals of daily life, the gorgeous Lake Palace and Jag Mandir island. Ayurvedic Hospital- Provides free consultations, daily yoga classes and mud therapy.Rose Garden- The favoured place for locals to picnic and exercise. Many handicrafts, vegetable and spice markets. Who we are: Hi there, my name is Akshay. My parents Gajendra and Vimla, my younger sister Tina and I would like to invite you to share in the joy of our local culture, architecture and landscape from a unique vantage point- our family home! I recently established 'Little Garden Guesthouse' to provide an income for my retired Mum and Dad, assist in maintaining our heritage property, and to entertain my love of imparting local knowledge! I have 6 years experience assisting travellers seeking out the best of Udaipur. Whilst you stay with us I will be available to ensure that your room is comfortable and your city wanderings rewarding! I look forward to your expressions of interest. Thank you :) ... more   less
