Over all experience was very good. Great hospitality. Courteous staff. May have to improve spread in buffets. Great location. Both the gifts shops are good and must visit type. Necessity to have separate vegetarian restaurant.

My stay at the Taj Hari Mahal was nothing less than exquisite! The hotel is a calm and welcoming oasis in the midst of a busy city. It is clear that the General Manager Devendra Ratnawat has invested his time and his passion for quality service to ensure that every detail is perfect. He is not an ordinary General Manager in any way as he makes a point of getting to know guests and providing a personalised experience for every guest at the hotel. I knew it was a good sign when I received a ‘Preference Form’ for completion before arriving, where I was asked to note everything ranging from my preferred time for housekeeping through to my preferred level of spice in my food. The personalised experience is something I have never experienced to this standard anywhere in the world! The General Manager has set an impressively personalised tone that is taken up by his staff. Location: the location is really convenient for all site seeing. It was easy to get there from the airport and is around 15 minutes from the main sites such as the Umaid Bhawan Palace and Clock Tower market. Restaurant: we ended up eating there every night as the food was so good. Some people were on a half board package which seemed great value. We decided not to opt for that as we like the flexibility to eat out usually, but the restaurant was so good that we ended up eating there anyway. The half boarders had a buffet and we were given that option too. The buffet was priced very reasonably at just over £20. We ate from the menu and ordered a chicken biryani, lady fingers, dal and roti between two of us. I have a huge appetite and still couldn’t finish it all. The food was absolutely delicious and piping hot. The second night we had the thali which was incredible. We had one between the two of us and just topped it up with extra roti. It was only 1600rs and again we couldn’t finish it all. The thali was genuinely mouthwatering and so beautifully presented. The final night we opted for a la carte again and couldn’t resist the biryani, dal and lady fingers combo again. The flavours were incredible. The service in the restaurant was perfection. The staff looked after everyone so well. Their English was faultless and they were able to answer all questions with ease. The restaurant manger Deelip was amazing and he took time to get to know all the guests. He was able to give us recommendations relating to the menu but also advice on our travel plans. He even gave me some great Indian cooking tips that I will be trying out when I get back. There was a real family feel in the restaurant and it was lovely to get to know the team over the three days. The service was first class all the way, without being uncomfortably formal. They were 100% professional with service of the highest quality but they still maintained that personal touch. We were really well looked after by Deelip, Vijay, Gaje, Sagar & Shubham. They were a great team and looked after everyone so well. I was beyond impressed. Front of house: the front of house team were excellent. Special thanks goes to Priya who was assigned as the ‘single point of contact’ and to Lokendra who oversaw the front of house team. They were simply awesome and there was nothing that wasn’t too much trouble. They have first rate knowledge of the city and surrounding areas and again the standard of care and service was impeccable. They even assisted with our onward travel arrangements to Udaipur. They made all guests feel special and well looked after. Facilities: the pool was fantastic. It was a good size pool and the area around it was spotless. Anand looked after the pool area and made sure we had towels and plenty of water. The gym is well equipped so take your trainers to balance out all of the incredible food you will eat in the restaurant. There is a shop that sells clothes and souvenirs. The prices are pretty reasonable and the staff there were excellent too. It’s a fixed price shop so perfect if you’re not feeling brave enough to haggle at the Clock Tower market. Rooms: the rooms are of a really good size. They are spotless and have everything you could possibly need. Character of the hotel: the hotel is only twenty years old but it has been designed in a traditional Rajasthani style, so you have the best of both worlds. It’s such a refreshing change from hotels that go for the contemporary business formula, which can be lacking in character. In contrast this hotel feels uniquely Rajasthani and the hospitality is a perfect match. Overall: I am a well traveled person and I can say with confidence that this is the best hotel I have stayed in. I will certainly be returning soon.
