We stayed two nights at Bikaner. The hotel was fabulous, huge room, lovely courtyard and decor.Every thing was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location however was not so good ,in an older part of the city(which is usually ok) but here it was nowhere near a market or restraunt area.We ate at the hotel which was a set...

Approaching the hotel you wonder what on earth you have done booking this hotel. The narrow streets you travel in your car to get here, far too small for a coach for example, are somewhat dirty and definitely in a more run down part of the town. The reception is similarly not very encouraging although the classic vintage car in...

The location of the hotel is dreadful, and basically one reaches the property one is not going to leave. Not a chance of “wandering around” to discover little restaurants, cafes, etc. Not a chance.....! The interior of the hotel is, however, an absolute marvel. A palace, with the most beautiful sandstone carvings, a wonderful ground floor courtyard, and the rooms...

We stayed here for one night in the last week of December 2010. Finding the hotel took some time, and we thought its going to be a disaster. We were completely wrong and taken aback when we entered the hotel (possibly due to initial apprehension due to location). The staff were nice and the room was extremely spacious and very...

It's as if this palace is reluctantly agreeing to allow guests. The room was stupefyingly hot when I arrived in the early morning, even though I'd paid for the previous night and they were informed of my arrival time. The provided toiletries were exactly what I found only in one and two-star hotels. The "napkins" at breakfast were the actual...

Bhanwar Niwas is a family run hotel. This seems to be quite common in Rajasthan considering that the state is simply bursting with havelis and palaces of varying vintage and antiquity. Bhanwar Niwas is a huge mansion set in a narrow gali in Baikaner. It has an ambience like no other hotel we stayed in in Rajasthan. Rooms are huge,...

This was my favorite hotel during my tour of Rajasthan - a turn of the century merchants mansion turned into a hotel - complete with classic touring car in front of hotel. Beautiful appointments everywhere - from details of doorhandles to imported tiles to painted frescos. It was VERY difficult to find as it is in the middle of very...

Staying at this hotel was a opportunity to experience the luxury of an age long gone. The rooms were extremely large and beautifully decorated - huge fourposter beds and antique furniture.. The bathrooms quite adequate although not 5 star. We loved the sitting rooms, hallways, staircases all with lovely paintings and statues. The central courtyard was floodlit at night with...

Rooms are really lovely and the haveli needs to be known with its "flashy furnitures" (somehow reminding of Versailles ...) and its small patio. No swimming-pool. Location is central but only on the map as the streets outside don't encourage to have a walk ... Avoid to eat there. Only veg cuisine and not specially tasty.

This hotel is owned by vegetarians and they do not serve meat or eggs, so the choice of food is very limited. Its city centre location means that it's somewhat noisy and lacks a pool or a green open space. So whilst the rooms are lovely, I would not stay here for more than one night. And the surrounding streets...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated inside the walled city of Bikaner is Bhanwar Niwas, the grandest of the famed havelis belonging to the Rampuria family. Bhanwar Niwas is a tribute and testimony to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans of Bikaner. Completed in 1927 for Bhanwarlalji Rampuria, heir to a textile and real estate fortune, Bhanwar Niwas reflects the fashionable tastes of the 1920's, a taste for formal and well ordered luxury with modern conveniences of the time. The architecture of the haveli is a fascinating mix of Indian and European styles. On the ground floor are the public rooms including the Blue Drawing Room and the Little Drawing Room. For your palate we serve delectable vegetarian food in the magnificent Dining Hall. ... more   less
