I needed a place to stay after coming off the trail in the White Mtn Wilderness and just sort of pulled in here. So glad I did! Very clean and spacious 2BR cabins, handy to sort through all my gear. And speaking of gear, I managed to leave my sleeping bag behind and Shelly went through all kinds of effort to get it mailed back to me. I love these kinds of places and the people who run them!

We ended up arriving in Ruidoso early for a week stay. We needed a place for just a night. We definitely were not disappointed in this place. Doesn’t look Like much from the outside but the front desk was extremely welcoming and friendly. It is definitely older but super clean. Extremely comfortable bed and pillows. There was a awesome game room for our kids to play with arcade games, pool table and foosball. Outside was a playground, basketball hoop, tennis courts and indoor pool ( unfortunately the pool was closed because of Covid). It was also directly across the street from Alto lake and walking distance to a Shell gas station. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Wonderful new owners are improving this property continuously! Cool old school cabins with a fire place and kitchen. GREAT game room and indoor heated pool are connected to a deck with grills. Tennis, basketball and volleyball! Super reasonable rates....all just walking distance to the tubing place and 15 miles from Ski Apache. We had a great time and are thinking this would be a great family reunion location or large group of friends and their families!

We had a very relaxing two-night stay at High Country Lodge. It's very cozy and a bit rustic. The cabin had two bedrooms with a queen sized bed in each room, as well as a fold-out sofa-bed in the living room. The beds were very comfortable. There was a wood burning fireplace and it was really nice to have a roaring fire going. They give you the first bundle of wood, but after that you have to purchase additional bundles. The cabin also had a full kitchen which was great to be able to make our own meals and snacks while we were enjoying the nearby tubing. The kitchen is stocked pretty well, but if you're cooking or using the kitchen it's a good idea to bring dish soap and other amenities. They don't stock shampoo or much else for the bathroom either so it's good to bring that along as well. Overall it was really quite and relaxing and the staff there was very friendly and accommodating. I would not hesitate to stay again.

When we travel we prefer to stay in cabins instead of hotels when possible, we just like the rustic feel of them. We chose a premium cabin at the HIGH COUNTRY LODGE in Alto, NM for this trip. Most of the time we travel with our dog and there was plenty of room for her to enjoy daily walks. It was was very clean and had plenty of room. The fireplace gave the cabin a nice cozy feel and had everything we needed. EXCELLENT WiFi was also available. The owners were available on site while we were there and were an excellent source of information for suggestions of places to visit around Alto and Ruidoso. We decided to eat out for most of our meals on this trip and there are plenty of excellent restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner within minutes of the lodge. We visited SKI APACHE, MOUNTAIN OF THE GODS CASINO AND MONJEAU LOOKOUT and enjoyed a full day shopping in MIDTOWN RUIDOSO. I love to take pictures, was able to capture some of the most beautiful scenery and wildlife pics around the lodge and on our trip up the mountains. We have already made plans for our next trip to the lodge and to bring the entire family!!!

There is also i nice size game room with pool table and other fun games there. We spent our 20 year anniversary there. It is right at the edge of the forrest. We saw wild horse and elk right out side the bedroom window at sun rise they were there just grazing it was beautiful we will go again as soon as we can. Also we saw deer all over town...

the cabin reeked of urine. Carpets and furniture heavily soiled and stained. Kitchen was disgustingly unsanitary. Dirt walls, stove not cleaned. Bathroom walls were patched over. The sink did not drain. Lamps with no shades. Furniture from 1960. We slept in our car!

High Country Lodge is under new ownership. All cabins have been deep cleaned and the product is now constantly updated and a routine maintenance schedule has been instituted. Thank you for this feed back, as it helps us zero in on specific issues.

We love The high country lodge in Alto New Mexico. I been coming here since I was a kid in 1982 and it's like a home away from home to me. Wonderful Cabins a little bit rustic but the price is right. Leticia and sotero are great hosts. Great location too.

Be aware before you book with this hotel, that they are not a company you might want to do business with. I cancelled my reservation, over 2 weeks before scheduled arrival. I have been told that I will get my refund, but no refund. It's been over a month. This is a shoddy way to do business!

manager sucks on refunding money back, likes to steal from peoples accounts and never refund money if though the room was cancelled well in advance. when you call and they tell you the money will be back in your account and it isn't to me it is basically stealing!!! Edward is rude also. if you take someone's money out of an account and they call and cancel have the same courtesy and put their money into their account when you say you will. not 14 days after, and still no money. I will not recommend this hotel/cabins to anyone.
