I must warn people against this property. I had a confirmed booking for 3 nights from Dec 29, 2015 at this property (made thru Booking.com). While I was driving from Munnar to this place on Dec 29 I called them to let them know what time I would be arriving. They simply denied having a reservation indicating that they had... More

We stayed in a 100 y/o timber cottage. It was really interesting to see this rare example of local architecture and craft. The room was very simple but comfortable enough. The temperature at this altitude is cooler and so we didn't feel the AC would be needed. It was actually a relief to sleep in a naturally cool room after... More

a] If I had an option I would not have given 1 star even b] We, both are senior citizen couple, had stayed there from 10th Oct to 12th Oct,2015. After reading the reviews in Trip advisor, somehow we had a feeling that we would enjoy our stay there. Whether it is hotel or homestay, comfortable and decent stay has... More

The Heritage house is a marvel of old Kerala carpentry skill. The gentle flow of air during the night builds a perfect ambiance. The adjoining view encompasses the plains of Theni and peaks of Periyar tiger reserve. The stay at the house and the morning views of the sorrounding gives a feeling that there is so much to life in... More

Amazing location! We, a family of 5, chose to stay in the 100-year-old (or more) wooden cottage. And we are all adults. That was definitely not a space for 5 adults, but its a beautiful cottage! The border between Kerala and Tamil Nadu was just next to the cottage. You must watch the sunrise—it's a breathtaking view. Warm welcome by... More

This was the only time during our month in India, that we were actually invited to the host house to have dinner with the whole family! (They also gave us the choice to eat in out cottage, but we happily accepted the invitation). My wife even helped preparing the dinner with Seline, the first lady of the house and learned... More

It was more than just a pleasant stay for my family during our 2 day stay at Manayath Heritage. The location in itself made up for a perfect setting to explore the rural facet of Chellarkovil village, so close to Thekkady. Thomas was more than willing to part with his farm produce to make us happy. We had bananas, papayas,... More

We had a pleasant stay with Thomas and his family. The homestay is in a small village. One of the cottages is a 100 year old Keralan house Thomas moved to it's current site and the other is a lovely building he built. Inside decor is very simple, with limited facilities/extras. There was a lot of rain during our stay... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Manayath Heritage Homestay/Guest house is situated at Chellarkovil village which is on the outskirts of the Periyar Wild life sanctuary(Thekkady), in the Idukki district of Kerala, S.India. The Villa we offer to the guests is a traditional Kerala house(wooden house), 140 years old. This property is our ancestral place, suitably located on the Kerala-Tamilnadu state’s border. The guest house (villa) is surrounded by a spice garden where pepper, cardamom, clove , vanilla, coffee, tropical fruits etc. are planted. The house is remarkable for its calm, clean and quite surroundings. The steep Tamilnadu valley on the south east forms a close back drop to the villa. Panoramic view of Tamilnadu plains, a lovely cascade,a community ecotourism centre, sprawling spice plantations, high altitude paddy fields, bushes and cliffs, cloud -clad peaks, unending chains of hills of the Western Ghats etc. are the natural attractions here. ... more   less

“The wonderfully atmospheric traditional wooden family home is divided into two bedrooms (each with a double bed - not the ideal length for very tall people and a little on the hard side) with a very clean bathroom in the middle. The balcony with it's wicker chairs are great for relaxing with a good book. There is also a hammock in the garden and a tree house with spectacular views into the neghbouring Tamil Nadu valley.”
