We stumbled across this guesthouse by accident after trying to book another one that was full -- and we were so happy to discover it. Book a room ahead of time, because there are just a few and they do book up. We wanted the family room, as we were travelling with 2 children, but it was already reserved. Instead...

We stayed in Sithara Homestay in February this year (2010) and we had the happiest time there. We really enjoyed the friendship, kindness and hospitality of Harry John and Mercy and we felt completely at home. The rooms are cool and comfortable, the breakfast delicious, and the dinners! I think I tasted the nicest fish dishes ever at Sithara. However...

Harry John and his wife run a beautiful homestay which would suit couples, solo travellers and families alike. I had one night with nonstop action over the two days I was there. Harry John organised everything for me so I was able to see everything I wanted which I really appreciated. Kerala is a beautiful area and the homestay is...

Great location (right around the corner from Malabar House) and lovely, home-y room. We had a double room with our own bathroom and 'dressing room'. Very clean and comfortable. Mr. Harry John is really friendly and helped with airport pickup and arranging a taxi to go to Kumarakum. He also made us a great breakfast! Would stay here again!

We stayed at Sithara Homestay with our 3 young children. The 2 bedroom suite was perfect for our needs. The location of Sithara is ideal for walking everywhere in Fort Cochin. We really enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts, especially the egg curry!

Sithara is a very good located homestay with a very nice family in Fort Kochi. The house is located in a quiet street very close to the center of Fort Kochi. We stayed in the apartment, which offered two bedrooms and a nice balcony facing the garden. The price was reasonable and the family genuinly friendly, helpful and nice. The...

Good, simple rooms, very good value in a quiet street of Fort Cochin. In a nice area of town very close to an excellent restaurant, Dal Roti! Mr John made us very welcome in his home, he is very knowledgeable about planning trips in Kerala, and the home-cooked breakfasts were excellent.

Harry John Bernard and his wife, Mercy, run a great little place. Clean, comfortable, with plenty of free and honest advice about the area. We particularly enjoyed a home-cooked, seafood dinner (Mercy has real talent!) Definitely recommend staying here. Great value and convenient walk to almost everything.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sithara Homestay welcomes you to Kerala, the nature lover’s wonderland, for an amazing experience. Kerala, a sliver of land located at the southernmost tip of India is 560 km long with lofty mountain ranges gracing one side and washed by the blue Arabian Sea on the other. Popularly known as ‘God's own country’, Kerala is viewed and listed by the National Geographic Traveler as one of the 50 places of a lifetime to be visited. Enjoy and explore Kerala in the ambiance of a traditional kerala house with us at Sithara Homestay. Situated on one of the streets of Fort Cochin, Sithara Homestay caters to the taste and needs of the discerning tourists. Present on a street studded with numerous ancient buildings conjuring up an aura of yore. An ideal place to start your discovery of the place and to plan and explore the beauty of Kerala. Fort Cochin is one of the sections of Cochin (The industrial Capital of Kerala), tucked between the Arabian Sea & the backwaters. Situated on a peninsula in the west linked by a complex system of ferries and unimaginatively made bridges, Fort Cochin shares the western location with Mattancherry as its other geographical ally of the old districts, while the eastern part is occupied by modern Ernakulam. ... more   less
