Such mixed feelings about this place. The hotel itself could be beautiful with a few tweaks- there was no door on our bathroom, which they did fix with a curtain at least, but it really needs a door. The WiFi was really bad through your stay, and unfortunately the food was not good at all because the menu was the same for the whole week of our stay. I feel really cheated from that, as there were 8 dishes, but only one vegetarian, so all I could have all week was vegetable pasta. It was not what I expected at a resort like this. Very disappointing. The staff were also mixed. Big thank you to Ali the pool attendant who made our holiday, and Marcus the maintenance guy, Maryann from the restaurant and a beautiful young lady who made me an African remedy on our last day when i was unwell which worked in an instant. I wish I had caught your name as you are so wonderful. However, some staff need training badly. One morning I went out to my patio as I couldn’t sleep and was accosted by a member of security staff begging me to be his ‘special friend’ and send him money from England. I felt really unsafe, and I had this a few times from staff asking for money or romance when my husband was away from me. I felt like I couldn’t go outside without him at all. Please please train your staff not to do this, Balafon! It is really unpleasant. Staff like Ali are what you want. Kind, courteous, helpful and not asking for money! ‘Bumsters’ here are bad enough without your staff joining in. Overall it is a beautiful place, but you really need to sort out the food and some of the staff members who let the others down.

I stay here 4 days and The was a 1 star hotel. So terrible room i ever seen. No soap and schampo in The room. Just 1 towel for 2 people in same room. The toilette door vas broken and you cant close is. Very old and dirty room. The woman in reception was not nice when we check in, she dont help us with wifi and dont tell us where we can find breakfast. When I going to check out they tell me you cant pay with card. So I must go 40 minutes to take out some money in 30 degree. So bad so bad. Why cant they say that when you check in? Dont go to this hotel, terrible and so bad. NEVER AGAIN!

Came here off season booked into a private pool room. Sadly no one had thought to check our room before our arrival so the first several hours were spent asking for the room to be cleaned, waiting for pool to be cleaned etc and even after that the room had a funny smell, different things were broken and no tea and coffee were supplied ‘because it’s off season.’ Yes it’s a gorgeous location and beautifully designed hotel, but holidays aren’t relaxing if you have to fight for the staff to do their jobs which should have been done before we arrived.

The Gambia is a place I would definitely call home. I feel at peace on every trip. I feel welcome. I feel reconnected with my roots. I will live there one day Asé. However, this is my 3rd time staying at the property chain (Djembe, Djeliba, Balafon) group. I've only stayed in Djembe however. You can walk through the other hotel grounds. However Balafon is adults only and a mini paradise in Kololi. I had such a fantastic stay I couldn't complain. The staff were so friendly. Many are historical friends, many remember me from previous trips. Many are now new associates. My Room was amazing! Spacious & Clean! I love Balafon!! Would I stay again: Absolutely without hesitation Next stop Tamale another of the chains hotels which looks amazing omg! Recommendations: House Keeping to be trained to put petals on bed (couples), designing towels into various things as many hotels of this standard internationally would do.

Moemoe United States of America 10 Reviewed: February 17, 2020 African Americans first time in the Gambia Liked · I really enjoy all the personal attention provided by the staff. Every morning we enjoyed delicious omelettes and crapes freshly prepared by two wonderful young ladies and as we consumed Our meals we had the pleasure of Adam and MoeMoe with the rest of the staff keeping us laughing and smiling nonstop. Samba and nema made all our personal business transactions very easy and run smoothly from checking in to checking out. Disliked · I think that the Internet service could’ve been better but I also understand that they are doing a lot of renovations and expansion and I was in a newer unit far away from everything Stayed in: Bungalow with Garden View February 2020

Thank you so much for coming all the way to visit us from the United States. We hope very much to have other visitors to come and visit from America in the future. We are working hard to ensure that the wifi reaches all parts of the hotel once the expansions are finished. Thank you for the personal notes to some of our staff. We encourage all staff to read trip advisor so we are sure they will be happy to see their names mentioned. We hope you will come and visit us again one day.
