We arrived on the late flight from SFO (United) so we could not get to Moorea that night. This was an excellent place to stay for the night; close to the airport, close to food trucks (left out of hotel and 1 block on left) and close to mini market (Tahiti can be expensive). We also stayed the night prior to our departure. They provided late checkout, showering room and storage for our luggage. Staff at front desk took care of all taxis and recommended local restaurants (they were excellent). We had lagoon view rooms for both stays (highly suggested because of views). Taxi from airport is about $25 and to ferry about $30. Rooms could do with some upgrades but overall we would highly recommend a short stay at this hotel.

This hotel serves families well. We stayed 5 nights here in one of the Lagoon facing suites and it was just what we needed. The suite is spacious with a separate bedroom, a large kitchenette with a stovetop, microwave, kettle, and small fridge. The fold-out couch was sturdy and comfortable for our two children. The outdoor terrace overseeing the lagoon and Moorea in the distance was our favorite spot when we were in the room not exploring Tahiti. The hotel is a little rundown and the rooms can certainly do with a facelift but it serves the purpose given its reasonable price range and proxemics in Tahiti. It's 10 minutes from the airport and about 12 minutes from the city center. The nearby marina had a few lively-yet-safe restaurants (nice given everywhere is rather quiet due to COVID). We rented a car from the hotel and explored all the beaches and even made it over to Moorea for a day because the ferry terminal isn't too far either. There is a small yet well-stocked market 2 minutes across the street from Manava (don't miss the fresh baguettes). Overall, the staff at the hotel was cordial and tried their best to help when needed.

In my opinion, the Manava has only updated the lobby, the restaurants, the pool area and bedrooms (not the entire room) of this hotel in Tahiti. I say Tahiti because there is a Manava in Mo'orea, don't confuse them. This one in Tahiti is run down and needs updating. Don't be fooled by pictures of the lobby. One of the first things I noticed was this ugly prison looking chain link fence someone actually picked out as nice. I would like to know whose idea that was. Bad interior choice. As soon as I opened the door to our room I could tell the walls were all banged up and dirty. Then I noticed was like that on purpose. Some ugly red texture finish to hide it. Then I noticed how the laminate floor was coming apart and warped like it had been wet. The room is on the 4th floor so it probably wasn't flooded. We are in the tropics so they should have used something more durable. They do give you a bottle of water on a daily basis and macaroons which were really good but I would not stay here again just for that. It was pretty expensive for such a poor experience. Even if it were for one night to catch a flight the next morning, I would find a place closer to the airport to save money on the taxi ride. Don't stay here. It's not worth it. I would have stayed in Bora Bora or Mo'orea an extra night for the price of two nights here. Bummer.

Uncaring, greedy management. We booked our two night hotel stay through booking.com However, our ship was refused entry to Papeete (as they shut the borders), and we were forced to disembark in Rarotonga instead. This threw all our plans into disarray. We contacted them via email as soon as we knew, asking for a refund. It took several emails to them (before and after we left the ship), before they replied days later, to say 'no refund'. In comparison, our hire car company in Papeete, our Auckland hotel, Skycity (non-refundable booking) and our organised transfers were all refunded on compassionate grounds. Also, we have heard that hotel.com and Agoda all organised immediate refunds for fellow travellers. However, booking.com were just useless. We had to find additional funds quickly so that we could fly home on one of the last flights out of Rarotonga. Some compassion please. Please think twice about dealing with these people.
