My wife and I visited Namale for 11 days in February, 2022 and we simply loved it. No. 1, their staff is filled with smiles and assistance and warmth.. we will miss them. As a very close second, the food was spectacular. We are always weary of "all-inclusive" places and expect breakfasts to be okay (at best) and also to leave the resort every few nights for a change of scenery and to experience bits of culture wherever we may be. Despite staying for 10 nights, we had no desire to leave, the dinners were always different, delicious and it was exciting to see what they would create. Beyond those big factors, we were able to do a few hikes, snorkeled four times, spent the day on a private island, used the gym a few times and did four massages at the spa (and used the spa's public amenities a few times as well). As it was our honeymoon, we stayed in one of the honeymoon bures.. but we visited some of the villas and we expect to rent one of those next time were out there... likely for our 5 year anniversary. Simply put.. they do a wonderful job out there, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the whole experience felt special and we look forward to returning one day soon.

My husband and I stayed at Namale in Dec 2021 after our initial trip was canceled due to covid. First, the diving was absolutely stellar - Emosi, Paul, and Lino made our experience. The dive crew were professional, friendly, and accommodating. The dive sites nearby were full of coral, fish, sharks, turtles. Just fabulous! We stayed in a honeymoon bure which came with a private plunge pool. This was a nice treat as the main pools could use a little updating. The grounds and gardens are stunning - we took a stroll around the property each day to bird watch. The food was delicious and fresh with a dinner menu that changed every night. Vegetarian options were always available. We also did a few of the excursions like a trip to a secluded sandbar for snorkeling and lunch and another trip to float down the salt river under the mangrove trees. We hiked to the waterfall on the Namale property and swam in the refreshing water. It was all lovely. The main plus here is the staff - every single person knew our names and was ready to make our stay personalized and memorable. From the initial touches of a hand carved sign with our names on the door to the bartender knowing our favorite wine each night. A few things to know: there isn’t a swimming beach as the property is surrounded by reef but there is a lovely beach full of beautiful palm trees for reading and laying out. The main pools could use a little updating but this didn’t detract from our stay in part because we did so many water sports. We used kayaks and paddle boards, went snorkeling and hiking - all accessible from the main property. If you’re a diver this is a major plus as the dive staff are excellent. The room was always clean and the staff unobtrusive but leaving pleasant touches like flowers at turn down. There is also an extensive game facility with bowling, darts, pool, air hockey, and more as well as private rooms for two to watch movies with wine and popcorn. The spa treatments were excellent as were the spa staff. The spa facilities were undergoing a bit of maintenance but otherwise the locker rooms and treatment rooms were very nice. The wifi is spotty so this makes working difficult. Also it definitely rains in Fiji but you can’t have paradise without the rain! Understandably they are doing updates to various parts of the property now that they’ve reopened so not everything is fully online but the staff were working hard to get everything back to pre-pandemic standards.

My wife and I went to Namale a few years back. We loved the experience, the staff were friendly and very nice. The resort it self was run down and in need or repairs. We stayed in a villa (Civa) loved the location and views. If you like diving great but I am not a diver. The divers got full use of boats and it was free (Pay to get tanks refilled only) I asked if I could go fishing in one of the other boats and was told yer fine $2K for the day. Get your priorities in order managers. After paying $12 or 13k for a week in a villa then being told to pay for a fishing trip I was not impressed especially when others got boat trips for free. Then at the end of our stay being pressured to donate to staff and families was tacky... no issue with helping and assisting the locals and staff it was the way that it was done. We had 3 or 400 Fijian dollars in cash left over and the comments of is that all, then told we can pay by credit card. Tacky at best

Response from Bill Keefe, General Manager at Namale Resort & Spa
Responded Mar 2, 2022
Bula and thank you for sharing your Namale experience here on Trip Advisor. Reading through your review I felt I needed to clarify a number of pieces of mis-information about Namale, amenities that we offer, and policies that we have in place. Please accept our apologies for not getting this information to you in advance of your arrival. SCUBA Diving at Namale is, along with Spa Treatments, about the only things that are NOT included in a Namale All-Inclusive Stay. Certified SCUBA Divers wishing to Dive during their vacation pay on average $200.00 USD per 2-tank dive trip. Namale's Custom Dive Boat schedules SCUBA Divers to dive in the mornings and caters to Snorkelers in the afternoon. Afternoon Snorkel trips are included in all Namale vacation packages at no additional charge and all Namale guests are welcome to come along. For those who are new to Snorkeling professional instruction is also included at no additional charge. Other included watersports are Stand-Up Paddle-boarding, Sea Kayaking, as well as Knee and Wake Boarding. Fishing is not an activity that Namale offers in-house either for a fee, or, as an included amenity. All fishing charters for guests are arranged with off-property charter fishing boats. Different captains charge different fees based on the size of their vessel, and, the type of fishing the guest would like to do. If you had been quoted $2,000.00 that would have been FJD (Fiji Dollars) which in USD would be $940.00. I am guessing that would have been for a full 8 hour day of fishing as the more common, 4 hour - half day charter goes for about $1,200.00 FJD. The Captain we use most frequently is a local guide by the name of Abby Whippy who has an incredible record of getting Namale guests on some pretty big Tuna. I am very sorry that at the end of your stay you felt pressured to "donate" to the Namale Staff Fund which benefits Namale staff members and their families. The fact is, this was not as much about leaving a "charitable donation", it was an option for you to leave a gratuity for the staff. IF you felt that the service that you received during your stay warranted it. When guests first arrive on property they received a welcome info sheet that explains this along with a number of other important pieces of information for their stay here at Namale. In that sheet we requested that you refrain from "tipping" individual staff members during your stay as that is not customary here in Fiji. Instead, at the end of your stay, if you felt compelled to do so, you could "contribute" to the Namale Staff Fund. Which, at the end of the year, is equally divided amongst all 200 Namale Staff members. 100% of all monies donated to the staff fund go directly to the employees. This method of "tipping" and "leaving gratuities" is very common throughout Fiji and most South Pacific islands. This process is done very discretely as a form is left in the guest's room the night before their departure. Guests wishing to do so fill out the form, put it in an envelope, and turn it in with their key upon checkout. To the best of my knowledge there is not now, nor has there ever been, any open solicitation or Pressure" put on guests to make a contribution. It is up to each and every individual guest to decide for themselves what, if anything, to leave as a gratuity for the staff. Just as a side bar, we were trying figure just when it was that you stayed with us here at Namale and could place a date range. It says here that your review was posted in August of 2021 but it also shows the dates of your stay being in (I think) September of 2020 ? That couldn't be as the resort had closed in March of 2020 for COVID and only recently re-opened in December of 2021. In the beginning of your review you mention that your stay with us was a few years ago. If you get the opportunity it would be very helpful if you could drop me an email and let me know the actual dates of your stay. In any event, I'd like to say that on behalf of myself and the entire staff here at Namale, we are very glad that you chose us for your Fiji trip. We do hope that we have another opportunity at some point in the future to pllay host to you again. Vinaka Vakalevu & Regards, Bill Keefe General Manager The Namale Resort & Spa

I can’t say enough great things about our wedding/honeymoon in Namale! 1. The people are amazing. We were greeted at the van with a crowd of employees clapping and singing to welcome us! The ladies at the spa were so cute and they spoiled us! The pool/activities guys (and gal) were so fun. They were always ready to waterskii, horseback riding, tour the reef, snorkeling, whatever! All free, of course. The dining folks... always remembered our drink orders, encouraged us to try everything! We always walked by the front desk just to chat and say hi! Every person greeted us by name with a friendly “bula”! 2. My wedding... a fairytale! Filo made sure every detail was perfect. Felicia did my hair (amazing), Walter did photos (amazing), cake and flowers all arranged by the resort were perfect. They decorate two venues in the event of rain! I could write a whole review just on my wedding it was so amazing! 3. Food- we loved the two cultural dinners the best, they were done buffet style. I ate a lot but felt amazing because everything was fresh and non processed. It took a full two weeks to adjust back when we got home! 4. Romance- Namale is perfect for couples who need to relax and disconnect. We had a private dinner on the beach, a private lunch/swim at the waterfall and twice we reserved the heart shaped hot tub for snacks and drinks! During the day we lounged at the beach or participated in the resort activities. We were never short of activities! What to bring: lots and lots of sunscreen. Wear it! Reapply often the sun is different there! Aloe and long sleeve clothing in case you get burnt! Flip flops and casual clothes, the resort is very casual. Sundresses are good for dinner. No need to bring Fiji dollars you can exchange money at the front desk. Leave behind: water shoes, you can borrow them from the dive shop. Leave bug spray behind they have cans everywhere you go! No need to over pack, they offer free laundry services. Overall best vacation ever highly recommend! Be sure to do the salt water float it was so fun. Bula!!

We visited Namale back in 2000 for our honeymoon and decided to return for our 20th anniversary and we are so glad we did! As soon as we arrived it was so familiar. The friendliness of all the staff singing out "Bula" whenever you walk past and they always know your name! Nothing is too much trouble. The bures are beautiful and the "Civa" that we were lucky enough to be in was beyond anything we could imagine. The food is 5 star quality as are the cocktails prepared by Errol, Kevin, Toni and Paul. The nightly entertainment was a great insight to the Fijian culture and lifestyle. When it rained The Kava bowl (games room) provided hours of competition on the golf simulator, 10 pin bowling and snooker while indulging in a glass or two of champagne. So many things to do - or not do- it's up to you. The water activities available are endless, there is a golf course with an amazing view on the 4th tee, and then there was the facials and massage. 8 days later it was time to leave and we are already thinking when can we go back??

This week marks one year since we stayed at Namale. And the memories are just as fresh and meaningful as ever! Without doubt, the best vacation we have ever had!!! Thoughts of the warm, charming staff; stunning scenery; incredible food and beverages; and beautiful weather still live on in our minds! Days lounging by the pool. Horseback riding. A trip into Savu Savu. Freely drifting down (or was it up? whatever direction we were headed) a hidden river. The picnic on a sand bar in the middle of the Koro Sea. Lunch by a water fall followed by a leisurely romp up to and behind the falls itself. Nightly entertainment by talented and local citizens. And if all of these memories aren’t enough, the Duatale, which Namale prepared for us to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, was beyond special as was our time spent in the unbelievable Bula House. Thank you, Namale, for the timeless memories! Trust me when I say we are nobody special. Namale just makes all of its guests feel that they are. It’s the way Namale rolls!!!!

Our room, the staff, and the entire experience was beyond anything you could imagine! The staff always knew our name and the night we celebrated our anniversary was a magical night with great food and the sunset! No words can describe the wonder of Namale! The only complaint was that we never met the General Managers and we were always out and about! We stayed at another place before Namale and we became friends with the General Managers, they were at every meal and enjoyed visiting with them. They expect their staff to be hand and they should also. Not impressed with them at all!

We stayed at Namale the first week of September for our Honeymoon (life is hectic and took us a while to get around to writing the review) and all we can say is the resort, experience, people and lastly the food was all EPIC!! The staff is amazing and all know your names by the first morning, so very genuine and friendly. There were too many to name them all but Tony, Kevin, Molly, Tupsy, and Samu (worlds best smile award) were all just totally awesome. We stayed in both an oceanfront bure and the Duvatta Villa and both were excellent. The Bure is of a good size with a great view, amazing bed, a shower that can open to the ocean if you prefer to be a little closer to nature. Duvatta was top notch with an infinity pool, separate dining and wet bar room with glass doors that open to the pool, treehouse with a table and queen size lounger in it, a walk in closet, a jacuzzi tub, indoor bathroom/shower, outdoor bathroom( my fav) and two outdoor showers! We probably would have done more activities but the villa was so nice we enjoyed just ordering drinks and food to the villa and lounging by the pool. Everything was breathtaking on the grounds, the entertainment was wonderful, all the special dinners and lunches were awesome as well. The Spa is top notch and both the wife and I got multiple massages and took advantage of the hydro room, waterfall massage, and sauna. The Kava bowl while not as top notch as we see in the states worked just fine and was a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon. It felt like home for a week and you hardly see the other guests ( max capacity is only 38 people) with so few people and the resort being so big (hundreds of acres) you feel like you have it to yourself. Most days the only time you see people are at breakfast and dinner. The managers Bill and his wife were visible and available on the grounds daily and always there to chat at the evening cocktail time. Each day when you see another couple leaving you feel sad for them until it’s your departure day and you feel “voted off the island” because you have to leave. Food was top notch blows away anything I have ever seen at any all inclusive. Also about there all inclusive you don’t tip as you go (tipping is not a custom) but can choose to leave a gratuity at the end if you choose that you can split between a “holiday” fund, a medical fund, and an education fund. In fact once there you can literally put away your wallet, phone etc and all you need to carry with you is your room key for the rest of your stay. Highly recommend!!!!!

Namale was a dream come true. We had a week-long wedding in true Indian style and selected Namale just the day before we arrived. We were looking for an all-inclusive resort where we wouldn't have to worry about a thing from the get-go, and Namale delivered just that and beyond. The staff fed and pampered us to the brim. We had a beautiful Oceanview Bure which was tastefully done in a tropical forest theme and promised total privacy from other guests. We are already planning our second trip and so are many of our friends and families locally and abroad who have been following our posts. We were treated to a sunset cheese and wine spread at the veilodomani jacuzzi (heart-shaped jacuzzi overlooking the cliff), waterfall lunch and a special dinner on our arrival at the resort — unlimited access to the hydrotherapy room at the Spa. We were also lucky to be part of the Thanksgiving dinner, which was beautifully done. Special mention to Tony, Samu and Vani at the bar and restaurant, Vili who is an excellent ambassador of the resort, Siti who took us on our horse ride and was willing to help us with so many other activities had we the time, Tupsy for her cheery nature, the ladies at the Spa, Meci for her kind and warm welcome and for looking out for us our entire stay and honestly every other staff we met at Namale was just a delight. Thank you all so much for making our honeymoon genuinely magical.
