Although there is no doubt about the welcoming charm as one pulls up to the Inn, this is not the place to stay if you are over 5’4” and planning to ready for a special formal occasion. The bathrooms are VERY small and dated. The ceilings are sloped and the rooms are so small and tightly packed with necessary furniture that they are a difficult navigation. We both hit our heads hard and multiple times just trying to navigate around the room. Our first intended room had a soiled and stained toilet (photo not included) and we were informed there had been some plumbing issues and that perhaps other guests had used the facilities in our room. This fact made it clear the room had not been inspected or properly cleaned prior to our arrival and we were very shocked. We were offered another room. This room had one window and did not have a window unit AC. The room had no chair or place to sit unless we piled our belongings on the bed and sat on a small chest. The day we arrived the weather was breezy and cool for September. The following afternoon the third floor was hot and the ceiling fan was useless in a tiny room with a closed door. There were other larger rooms empty the entirety of our stay, but we were not offered those. The bathroom in the second room had missing cabinetry, no counter space and was not much cleaner. The mirror was hung so low I could only see half of my head. There is no way to back up unless one knocks down drywall. It was the smallest bathroom I have ever had to use - a space less accommodating than a portable and a shower so small ones limbs must be in and out of the shower liner just to wash up. If you’re looking to spend a lot for a little - which has its place - this is a beautiful spot. If you need to get ready for a wedding, have driven (7) hours and are in town for a formal occasion, stick with a traditional hotel, bathroom counters, water pressure and AC. Were we not pressed for time, we would have asked for a refund and stayed someplace else. The first floor, dining and service were excellent. Simple updates to bathrooms and a few modern conveniences would go a very long way in making the entire experience befitting a stay in Avon by the Sea.…
We stayed at this inn with our adult daughter for a family event. We had one of the larger rooms with 2 queen beds. While the inn is full of antiques and that is not really our thing, the room was very clean and comfortable. The staff, Mary and Marina, couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. One of the benefits of staying at this inn was the delicious free breakfast. They have a full menu to choose from. The chef, sorry but didn’t get her name, made the most delicious fresh and warm muffins. Today’s muffin was cherry and it had an amazing center of warm cherries. Yum. My blueberry pancakes were loaded with juicy blueberries. Can’t say enough about the breakfast. Also, the inn faces a lake and is only a few steps away from the beach. We would definitely stay there again, however I noticed the price goes up quite a bit during the summer months due to the proximity to the beach.…
We stayed last summer. Be aware that if you choose an inexpensive room, they are TINY! Also, we stayed because we heard about there movie theatre that they advertise. We were not told they had it closed. They claim the reason to be COVID. BUT, the room was full of all kinds of things from the inn. Also things were stored outside our room in disarray. Just beware before you book. The breakfast was very good and plenty of food.
Food was excellent but that's where it ends. Carpeting was very dirty, bathroom had trash in waste basket, shower wasn't cleanand beds were like sleeping on wooden boards. We stayed here before but never again
It was a last minute trip for a weekend getaway. From navigating the website to the departure the following day, this was absolutely the perfect spot. The staff, Leo and company were extremely knowledgeable and accommodating to all of our needs and beyond. The rooms were clean and fashionably decorated with old world charm. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in offered by any Inn or Hotel. The breakfast was exceptional and even took home a dozen home made muffins made perfectly. Will revisit again!
Me and my new wife stayed here for our wedding weekend. Our venue was in Neptune so this was a perfect spot for us (Close to both the ocean and our venue). Our room was very clean and had a GREAT view of the ocean. The only downside was that the shower was VERY small and the sink had a slow drip, but neither of these things took away from our weekend. The staff and the breakfast were amazing both days. They made sure we were taken care of. They made our stay extra special.
I have stayed at the Cashelmara Inn on several occasions when visiting Avon for weddings/ family functions. The rooms that I have stayed in where very unique and comfortable. Since the Inn is a B&B, a breakfast of your choice is offered with the lodging. In the summer, breakfast is offered on the front porch. The Inn is located directly across from the beach and within a short walk of many fine dining choices (casual and fine dining restaurants). A great alternative to a "soul-less" big box hotel chain.
We stayed two nights and are really glad we did! Our bed was super comfy and the breakfasts were outstanding! It was also exceptionally quiet! Our favorite thing, though, was the beach service the inn offers: for only $20, they set up an umbrella and chairs for you on the beach and then pick them up for you later. Well worth the $20! We'll definitely be back!!! Our only suggestion to the Inn would be to make in-room movies available.
(Be patient, I know this review long but it’s worth the read. It will sway you to book, as it did us!) )My husband, Stan, and I planned on coming down to the Jersey Shore for just two nights. Stan loves the Spring Lake area. In searching for a place, I loved what I saw on the Cashelmara website. Looked perfect. As a smart consumer, I searched for the reviews. Strangely, there were only one or two RECENT reviews on Yelp or Trip Advisor. But WHY?! I was VERY concerned; I became VERY skeptical now. I had no clue; was making up my own reasons why people were not forthcoming with reviews. But I had to find out! So I called Cashelmara personally...and spoke with Mary and asked her flat out! She said she wasn’t sure; maybe because they had many repeat customers. I told Mary we travel quite a bit and our standards were very high but we expect nothing less: IMMACULATE inn, private room & bath, FULL FRESH breakfast, AMPLE outdoor seating for all, EASY ACCESS to beach with prepaid passes, COMFORTABLE sand chairs and large beach towels provided for a carefree day at the beach—in other words we expected to be pampered. Mary said this, “The inn has been here for 35 years, I’ve been here for 30. I think it’s very nice. When you get here, I would be happy to walk up to your room and check it out personally. If there’s something you’re not happy with, you’ll let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate you. I think you’ll like it here.” Mary’s honesty swayed us to book two nights here. What may I say? We LOVED IT SO MUCH, we booked a third night!!! Cashelmara’s staff definitely pays exceptional attention to details. They are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. And oh—the breakfasts! And oh oh—the all-day candy bar!! And oh oh oh —the mid-day decadent baked goods!!! And oh oh oh oh—the in-house movie theater?! Yes!! So consider this an HONEST, QUALIFIED, RAVING review of a hidden gem. (BTW the only reason I call it a hidden gem is because there was so up to date recommendations touting it’s BEAUTY & CHARM!) Thank you Mary & staff for a fabulous stay!!!! We’ll definitely be back! KJ & S …
My family had a small family reunion the weekend of June 22- 24, 2019. We booked 4 rooms at Cashelmara and it was a wonderful choice. Mary really took care of us and the entire staff was very attentive. We reserved their small movie theater Saturday night and we were thrilled to have bottles of chilled water and large buckets of popcorn waiting for us. What a treat! Our rooms were elegantly furnished and the breakfasts were phenomenal. Thanks so much to Mary and the entire Cashelmara staff for being the cornerstone to a wonderful Jersey Shore weekend.
