Found Umbi Sharks Bay Diving Village through our live aboard. Bedoin owned and very cozy, directly on the water and affordable. Great breakfast plan and staff that were positive, helpful and available. We stayed in the beachfront (closest to water rooms) which are low key "summer camp" like rooms with AC, but the Bedouin Rooms look a little more "upscale". Multinational presence made the company interesting. We didn't get to stay long enough to dive at the village, but there is a recognized dive site on location and a full service dive facility with showers and restrooms available. They offer short liveaboard experience (4-5 days) as well as daily trips to local and less local sites (Tiran, Ras Mohammed, Thistlegorm and Dunraven). The bar was a nice "Arabian style" floor sitting experience with Shishas available and access to the full menu of the restaurant which was pleasant. Don't come if you need booze, but the Egyptian wine (red and white) and beer are cool and ready to go with snacks or meals. There is a small shop for drinks and snacks (7-11 Egyptian style) on premise as well as several other little shops for tourist items or swim wear. Really appreciated the kind service and information from the dive shop manager and hotel front desk who arranged a driver to Old Market downtown for shopping and a quick trip to the Sharm Egyptian Museum which was a nice airconditioned diversion from the heat. Our group voted to skip the week long live aboard next trip to spend a little more time at UMBI and check out the day trips. Great stay that was really too short!

My house out of home,I did many reviews of this place,is my hearth place since 2002,a cozy, quiet, and relaxing place on the sea. The location is priceless, directly on the sea,and the private beach with chaise long and umbrellas, just close to the beach bar, that is a tipical beduin tend, with any kind of drink, perfect coffee(I'm Italian),and cappuccino and every kind of juice, fresh made, all the places are in front of the sea. We can choose different kind of rooms, the beach cabin directly on the beach, wood rooms, but with all the facilities, like bathroom on the room, fridge, air conditioned,,or the Beduin Village rooms, direcly on the back all with a wonderfull sea view, looking on Tiran Island. A very important part of the place is the staff, from the reception ,to the cafe' and restaurant, everybody is really very friendly, and always care about our needs, really the best part of the place. I really feel home and I feeel everybody care about me. I will be back soon,is really my peacefull place. Last, but not least,is the diving centre, they have 4 boats for dayly or safari trips, the diving is on the beach, and if you want an unforgettable experience, don't miss a boat trip,or better a Safari, diving, sleeping, eating,on boat with every kind of confort.don't miss it!!!

Sharks Bay Umbi was everything that I hoped it would be. I spent 2 weeks at the village, including 5 days in a liveaboard, and absolutely loved it. Before my trip, the communication from Sharks Bay Umbi was great as I had quite a complex itinerary to ask for a quote on. They were really helpful and everything was set up and organised for my arrival. I stayed in both the beach hut and Bedouin accomodation. The beach huts were basic but still clean and had all the facilities needed, with the Bedouin huts more luxurious albeit up 100 or so steps in most cases. The diving school was exceptional and I absolutely loved all the instructors that I dived with (Natascha, Mahmoud, Kemo, Fahd). The school had a great balance of maintaining safety and responsible diving whilst always ensuring the absolute best experience for their divers. The attached restaurant was also great, with a good variety of options and excellent service at a fantastic price relative to other nearby options. The whole resort is very chilled out and relaxed, and has a small community feel which I enjoyed and preferred to what I imagine other resort areas may have been like. The only few things that I would say could be improved are the use of plastic in the restaurant which remains very high and could be reduced quite easily, and also the payment process for those from outside of Egypt. I had hoped to pay via bank transfer in advance to avoid card charges, but I wasn't provided an invoice in advance and would have needed to be in the UK to make a payment to an Egyptian bank account. As a result, I paid a good chunk more than was on my final invoice in charge fees. That said the overall price for the amount of time was still very reasonable and a lot better than elsewhere. Overall the experience with Sharks Bay Umbi was wonderful and I would recommend a stay for anyone looking for amazing diving and a great dive centre! Needless to say we will return in the future.

We are a diving couple ( with more than 30 years experience and we dive every week in the North sea).
Positive features: - Friendly welcome (at the reception and the diving center) - The bedouin room had a nice big balcony with a nice view on the Red Sea. - Very good breakfast - Top restaurant, near the red sea, top food and very friendly crew! - Good logistical arrangements at the diving center (the material was brought to the boat and when we booked a trip to the Thistlegorm, everything was well arranged) - Top chef (Abdul) and captain (Ramadan) at the boat! - The nicest deckhand you will ever meet: Ahmed! He is always there to help you!
Negative features: - The bedouin room (number 509) was outdated: there was a hole in the window and it was filled up with paper, there was no WIFI at all and the shower was so poor with water, it was almost impossible to wash ourselves. Furthermore, we had some unpleasant guests: ants and cockroaches... Luckily we brought deet and that solved our problem. - We are not used to diving with a guide (our first time in Sharm but we dive every year in Egypt, especially in Marsa Alam). This was new but we respected it. - However: there was no acknowledgement of our diving skills. Divers, who just got their PADI, were diving sometimes deeper than us(!). Our dive guide was so strict that everything became a stress-event. We constantly heared the tapping of the metal stick on his diving tank. A nightmare! When you are diving, you want rest and not have to be obliged/stressed to look at a noisy guide. We, and our joining Spanish friends, had sometimes no time to film or record things because our guide wanted to move on. - The lowest point was certainly the anger outburst of the guide! He raged for half an hour that we did not respect him and the coral. What happened: one of us had reading glasses in his divemask and can't see the signs; The guide thought he ignored his signs consciously; Furthermore, we filmed something while laying in the sand and that was also not allowed... After his rage we put the mask with the reading glassed on the head of the guide and then he calmed down... - There are different standards for returning diving gasts: we saw him tapping the coral, standing on the coral, breaking the coral,... When we addressed this to our guide: he just putted his finger on his mouth, telling us to keep silent... -The diving infrastrucure is outdated: after our last dives, we wanted to wash our diving gear with fresh water but everything was closed. We had to ask the cook to connect the water. After we rinsed our gear, we had to take all our diving gear to our balcony to dry (a stairs of 70 steps) because there was only an open room to hang our gear to dry. -There are different standards for paying the bill: the people we met on the boat got offered a 5% discount if they gave a review on trip advisor. We did not get this offer...
As a beginning diver, this might be a good place to be. As an experienced diver not.

I had an unforgettable experience at Umbi Sharks Bay Diving Village! The location is stunning, with easy access to some of the best diving spots in the Red Sea. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly providing me with everything I needed to feel like home. The diving instructors were knowledgeable and patient which made diving a breeze for beginners like me. My room was big, clean and I had one of the best views I could possibly have asked for! Already planning my next return trip with my family this time!

I love to travel solo (female traveller) all over the world, particularly for diving trips. Unfortunately, some places aren't that receptive to an older, solo female traveller, but not the case at Umbi It's the kind of place were anyone and everyone is made to feel welcome. I went for a week to escape the mad hype and peer-pressure of the Christmas period in the UK, but mainly to try diving again after a 5-year break. I've dived for 25 years but felt I'd lost my confidence after such a long break and wasn't sure I'd be able to get back into it. I needn't have worried. I booked a scuba review for my first day with a very enthusiastic and patient young instructor, Mohamed, who very quickly made me feel at ease. His passion for all things diving and the underwater world was infectious and I immediately fell back in love with the sport and felt like I'd never been away. Umbi is exactly the kind of place I like to stay at. It's quiet, relaxed, laid-back, comfortable, clean and safe in beautiful surroundings. As relaxing as it is though, it's incredibly well run, and very well organised, in a chilled kind of way. It beats a 5* resort hands down - it doesn't of course have the same frills, but this is why I like it - it's unpretentious. Down-to-earth and honest. The Village crew are all exceptional - I never got hassled or bothered, and I was greeted with genuine smiles and warmth from everybody. Having in lived in the Middle East for most of my life, I do miss a lot of the Middle Eastern culture, so it was lovely to be able to relax in the Bedouin Tent with a shisha and a pot of tea and just listen to the waves lapping to the shore from sundown to bedtime. I really enjoyed the food, took a half-board package and based on doing this in other places in the past, didn't have huge expectations, but was very pleasantly surprised. The meals were all great. Fresh and tasty, flavoured with fresh herbs - and with a good selection of things to choose from. The diving guides and crew are top notch excellent, they really know their stuff. After many years diving, I've heard countless dive briefings, but can honestly say that the briefings given by Emad really were the best ever I've ever heard. His knowledge and love of the ocean was out there for all to see. I genuinely felt extremely honoured to have been able to dive with him and I have the utmost respect and awe of him as a diver, teacher, mentor and ambassador of the sea. Thank you, Umbi and Team, I will be back very soon and am already really looking forward to my next visit.

We booked the 5 day/4 night liveaboard trip and it was simply fantastic. We stayed on the Freedom III and it was extremely comfortable and spacious for a small boat. The cabins were kept immaculately clean by the wonderful Tyson, and the showers were pleasantly warm with great pressure to wash the Red Sea off.
The food was OUTSTANDING. I’m vegan and whilst I appreciate that can be a little tricky to cater to at times, chef Samir did an amazing job. What made our trip even more special is he made us a cake on our last night in the boat to celebrate our honeymoon!
Whilst we are relatively experienced divers we still rent equipment wherever we go, the dive shop made this process very easy and all equipment was in fantastic shape, making all our dives comfortable and safe.
Our dive guides were Mahmoud and Mahmoud, both were incredible, giving clear briefs before each dive, pointing out marine life (I still have no idea how they spot stone fish!) and keeping us safe throughout. The diving itself was beautiful, the visibility was so clear it was like diving in HD! The water is pleasantly warm, even on the night dives, and whilst a couple of dives we came up against some current, most dives were very relaxed and easy. We were meant to dive Thistlegorm but the itinerary changed, initially we were a little disappointed but appreciate schedules have to change beyond anyone’s control. Instead we went to Dunraven and that was a brilliant wreck dive!
My only criticism: lose the plastic cups! We would only use mugs for our soft drinks but plastic cups were always on offer.

I have been lucky enough to visit Umbi dive centre on many occasions over the last 20 years or so. I have stayed there many times, in both the beach cabins and the Bedouin Village rooms, and have also been out on safari. So, I was very excited to return , as I hadn't been there for a year. All the booking was taken care of by both Hosna and Ena. Perfectly organised so we got exactly what we asked for. On arrival at Sharm airport, we were met by the shuttle driver as promised. When we got to the centre, it was just like meeting a bunch of very good old friends. Everyone was so happy to see us. We shared a Bedouin Village room (number 404 which has a massive balcony with a fabulous view of the bay and Tiran Island). The room is great and spacious with a TV and kettle and super soft towels to boot! The diving was as good as it always is, with fabulous guides who have so much local knowledge that it really makes for the best experience. Thanks Adel, as always. The lunches on the boat were top notch as always, with plenty of choice. We saw so much, and even when the weather didn't play ball, there was always an excellent alternative. After the diving is done for the day, chill in the Bedouin tent overlooking the bay, before going to the restaurant where the menu offers so much choice and all of which is the best. The guys there are so friendly and happy to help. I literally cannot fault the place. It has everything you need for either a diving trip or just a relax in the sun. THE BEST!!!!!!!

Last minute booking due to friend unable to go and found this a good price as single supplement in the Hotel in the original plan was extortionate. Accomodation very basic, HOWEVER, this brought me back to when I first started travel, simple, had what you needed but the best think for me was the service, better than the big hotel i stated in this year, I dive, so booked and the team at the dive site was awesome, helpful, fun and very welcoming. I must admit, especially of diving, this place is perfect. I had half board which suited me and the food was actually better than the so called 5* close by.
Well down team UMBI
