A small resort with a bay only for divers - it sounds like a wonderful dream but is the reality at Coral Garden. The bungalow resort in Gassous Bay with 32 rooms is managed by ORCA and has been tailor-made for the needs of divers. The unique entertainment programme is garden chess. Those of you, who want to have peace and quiet - apart from diving naturally - have come to the right place. There is probably no diving centre in Egypt that has a shorter distance into the water than Coral Garden.

The house reef offered great and varied diving with a sloping reef and a sandy bottom hosting coral outcrops and frames that have been colonised. You can go deep (at least 30m, deeper if certified to 40). We watched octopus playing on nearly every dive. The Orca staff were helpful, friendly and professional and went out of their way to ensure you were OK in all respects. The hotel rooms were basic but perfect - who needs more than a place to wash and sleep? It was kept very clean. The restaurant served some delicious food and the hotel staff again were keen to make sure we had all we wanted.I'm sure we will visit again!

This was just what I needed after a busy, hot few days in Luxor. The accomodation was fantastic - quiet, spacious, clean, comfortable and with nice decor. The biggest highlight was opening my front door and being just a few meters from a fantastic coral reef, which I spent every day snorkelling in. It was nice to see that it was well looked after, with some parts bordered off to protect corals and breeding fish - but this didn't stop you being able to see a huge range of sealife. The beach was also quiet with plenty of deckchairs available, so perfect for soaking up the sun with a book. The only area of improvement was the food, which was okay but I sometimes found it difficult to find something I wanted to eat at dinner. This didn't bother me too much because I was there for the snorkelling, but vegetarians/vegans might struggle. Overall, if you're looking for nice, quiet accomodation and to see some wonderful sealife, this is an absolutely brilliant choice. I'd visit again.

Nice bay with corals on both sides with colorful fish and water is calm most of the time make it great spot for snorkling and diving. Water are very shallow at the bay entry and getting deeper gradually. The hotel is on the main road south of safaga. Staff are very friendly, rooms are clean and simple with small TV and noisy old fashion window air condition. Pets are not allowed but diving centre manager walk around rooms with his dog that gets close to us several times which make us uncomfortable. Food was ok and warm and may be because of few guests there was not a lot of varieties in the food list and it was spicy little bit for us. The bar currency is in euro make it too expensive for egyptians to deal with. The four stars is because of manager’s dog.

Have just returned from a week's stay in late November. Coral Gardens Resort is an excellent spot from which to engage in a spot of snorkelling, scuba diving, or alternatively simple sunbathing. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is both plentiful and very good, there is a lovely bar area with free wifi and there are ample places to lounge in the sun. The reefs at both ends of the bay are home to a large variety of colourful fish and I was delighted to spot a young giant barracuda. All in all, we had a wonderful experience and would readily recommend the resort to others.

We visited in June which was low season and the hotel was only part full. However there was regular diving, you could either dive in the bay (just walk in from the hotel) or go by minibus to Safaga to join the boat dives from the Orca hotel in Safaga. There were guided dives every day or you could do your own diving (with buddy of course). As the hotel is so small I easily found other people to buddy up with. The bay diving is a bit limited, I wouldn't stay here for more than 10 dives. The resort is managed by Tom and Sonya from Germany and they are very friendly and helpful. The bar food, drinks and massages are very reasonably priced, cheaper than other resorts we stayed at. The rooms are excellent, clean and bright with nice bathrooms. The only reason that I did not give 5 stars is the food. On "Egyptian Night" the food was lovely, so the chef can cook middle eastern food well. However they kept producing western food and we felt that the chef had read a recipe but had no idea what the meal should taste like and it was frequently poor. However they did have a fresh pasta station where they cooked pasta to order so this was always a good fallback.
