    Great, friendly hotel.
The Makadi Palace is 5 star rated to Egyptian standards. As long as you remember that it is not the same as a British 5 star hotel, you will not be disappointed. Yes, it's a bit shabby around the edges with a update needed and the odd bit of flaking paint but will it detract from your stay? No. What the staff do have they look after to a very high standard with cleanliness being maintained throughout the site from the rooms to the public areas. Wifi is only available in the lobby and that craftily is one area you have to pay extra for drinks in. The internet is very hit and miss also. The biggest disappointment was the food. There are 5 restaurants on site. 3 you need to book in advance with for your evening meal and serve perfectly fine food. The other 2 are buffet which can only be described as cheap food. Poor choice, often luke warm, bland and hard to get to get a table at. A few times we had to go away and come back later in order to be seated. The staff were all lovely and looked after us really well. Remembering what we liked to drink and refilling as soon as our glasses were empty. A little tip (money) does go a long way and is customary to give in Egyptian culture. However, there was no pressure to tip by any staff members as other people have said they found. This holiday did exactly as we wished. A week in the sun to escape the drab British weather.
Dear 103clareg, thank you so much for such a wonderful review and most of all detailed description of your recent stay at Makadi Palace Hotel. We appreciate this very much! We have read your review with great attention and can only say "thank you very much." We are so proud that we have made such a great impression on you. It is our concern that our guests feel 100% comfortable and we are always happy if we could achieve that. Our staff, which made a huge contribution to making your holiday go smoothly, really does a great job. We will pass on all your nice words to them. We thank you once again for your full recommendation and we hope to welcome you back soon to offer you another beautiful holiday. Sunny regards, Viktoria Guest Relation Makadi Palace

Great hotel, Lovely pools and the surroundings, nice staff... will be back!
I dont know what some people expect, and especially for what they pay. I would say this is a 5 star, but on the other hand its one of the nicest places i've been to. The overall feel is peaceful and quiet. Staff are lovely and will attend to any issues you may have. The pools are great, lots of room, not overcrowed. The whole layout round the hotel is so nice and continues onto the beach. The food in the restaurants that you booked for a day in advance was lovely. The botanicals was delicious, so was the french in the mall. The dome wasn't so good as it was standard all inc buffet. Snacks through the day were yummy and there was a good selection of meals throughout the day.The rooms are a little dated but they are spotless and the bed was so comfy. We didn't expect to spend loads of time in the room so it didn't really matter about being posh... it did what we needed it to do. The staff dont bother you half as much as people are making out for tips. They are there on the ball with drinks for you round the pool and also at the food eateries. I think they deserve to be tipped. We also tipped the room cleaner a couple of pounds every other day and he made sure we had anything we needed, ample bottled water etc. Overall you really couldnt complain, we really enjoyed it, and are quite worried that unless we pay silly money for somewhere, we wont get as good all round like we did here,(and my fella has been to a few of the hotels in hurghada.) Looking forward to returning very soon!
Dear Seaside667440, Thank you very much for taking the time to review the Makadi Palace, and sharing your holiday experience. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that our hotel, facilities, services, and the hospitality of our staff fulfilled your holiday expectations. Nice hotel area
We enjoyed the varied hotel area with a lot of bars and restaurants within the hotel premises. The hotel is a bit worn down. The floors in the rooms could be cleaner and there were no hygiene products in the bathroom except for a soap automat attached to the wall in the shower. The pools were freezing cold, otherwise we enjoyed our stay. Haytham in the reception treated us well and was very nice to us.
Dear 259johane, Let us express our sincere thanks and appreciation for your kind words and to be given the opportunity to extend our hospitality. It is always a pleasure to hear what a good job the entire team has done to make you feel welcome and special during your stay. Special thanks for pointing out the friendliness of our staff. Very happy that you had a good time with us. It was certainly a pleasure looking after you and we hope to welcome you soon again. Sunny Regards Dani Guest Relation Makadi Palace

The resort is stunning to look at but that’s about it. The food is a disgrace we all had tummy bugs. The cleanness is shocking, the rooms are so out dated, the restaurants are filthy they don’t clean the tables, glasses plates always dirty it’s put me off going back.

Very disappointing. Stunning on the outside but a different story on the inside. I shall try to keep it as short as possible.. *Negatives Rooms tired outdated and in need of upgrade especially the bathroom we had a broken bath no power from the shower and water temp intermittent. Food tepid and very much geared up for other European travellers, this was the same for the evening music us British felt like outcasts. Alcohol watered down and served in very small glasses then not filled to the top, we struggled most evenings to find somewhere to sit and be served. Upon arrival we was allocated our room when opening the door we found that someone was all ready occupying and was laid on the bed. (Very embarrassing) Sun beds all gone by 7am then no one on them all day very annoying..plenty of umbrellas but no beds to go with them. Bed linen and bath towels grey and old . Towels for sun beds faded and shabby looking. The beach is poor not very good for snorkelling or swimming as the tide goes out in the afternoon. Too much expectation on tipping from the staff . Waiters poor job on cleaning tables (one waiter used someone else’s napkin to wipe out table) *positives Air-con and scenery in the lobby lovely (only place to get WiFi ) Reception staff helpful We enjoyed the Italian restaurant in the Mall and nice to have other options to eat as the buffet restaurant on site is a free for all and food goes down fast. View from our balcony was very nice Waiter service on the beach a lot better than poolside. Weather was brill This is not a 5 star it’s a 3 (I have been to a few on my travels ) Very disappointing I would not recommend to others if you are looking for something special.

We spent another very pleasant two weeks at the Makadi Palace hotel. This hotel is one of our favorites, we have vacationed here many times. There are many, many acquaintances here, it is a very good feeling when you are greeted as a friend upon arrival. The atmosphere of the hotel, the beauty of the garden and the sea are unsurpassed for me. The last time we were here was in September last year, the service was good for me then, but now it's even better. The Egyptian dinner at Melange is delicious, the food at Thai Garden is much better, I love the freshly baked Arabic bread on the terrace of Discovery. The staff is very friendly and helpful, thanks to Bahaa and Tarek at the reception for their kind help. The boys who brought the drinks to our sunbeds diligently brought us drinks all day. It is true that the hotel is not new, a little renovation and replacement of the old furniture would do the place a lot of good. I hope that soon a little beautification will take place here as well, as it has already happened in many Red Sea hotels. I'm sure we'll be back again as it's one of our favorite places.

First sight of the hotel looks promising with an attractive entrance and grounds. Your illusions will soon be shattered. Our bathroom was in need of refurbishment, the bath damaged and badly repaired and fittings which were ready to fall off. A thorough clean would have done no harm. Sheets and duvets were grey rather than white. Sunbeds were in short supply and people were scurrying around to claim them at 5-50am but then on many occasions did not use them all day. Food in the main buffet was often cold and often hardly cooked. Even the soup tureen was empty after just ten minutes of opening. On the plus side the Botanical restaurant was a highlight but one waiter would not let a member of our party have four courses telling her to choose soup or salad even though we had both the previous evening. On all inclusive the beer is of poor quality and measures of spirits were minute. Staff asking for tips even for sweeping up was unacceptable. We tip for good service. The pools look good but there was evidence of damaged tiles and the allocated area of beach is probably the worst on Makadi Bay. If you want to stay in this area look a few hundred yards down the beach where there is a much nicer hotel that does not have Makadi in its name.

Quick efficient check in, we where there for a 3 night stay before setting off to a Nile cruise. On arrival to room it was very tired with the bath having been repaired but it was ok ish. We then went on a trip to the Nile. On our return to hotel efficient check in, was taken to room, our daughter and her husband was with us and they gave them a room next door to ours, our daughters room had a do not disturb sign on the door handle but thinking this was an oversight she went into the room only to find someone in bed, this person is unaware she was in their room as she slowly closed the door, obviously given another room but reception found this quiet amusing, I would have not have found this funny I think this is quite serious. Next our room there was an hole in the bath that had been repaired but it was very large and looked grubby so we moved rooms, the next room was very tired, things were missing in our room which our daughter had in hers they obviously have problems ie fridges not working, no little magnifying mirror on the wall, no towel rails, the shower was awful with no pressure so we had to take shower head off to be able to rinse our bodies off but this was with tepid water. Breakfast was ok but for lunch and evening meal the food was bland and cold, we got as we didn’t look forward to meals, sun set bar was better but I think this was down to the hard working staff. Lovely around the pools and outdoor areas, but we never had a sun bed because they had towels on, you had to be up before 6.30 to join the rush for best position or even to get one, the hotel states any towel on beds before 7 they would be taken to laundry, this didn’t happen, I couldn’t understand why there were not enough beds when there were brollies available with no beds underneath, we counted at least 70 brollies, which equates to an extra 140 sun beds missing. If it was for repairs they should have planned it better, so we went to the beach where there was plenty. There was no available seating out side in the evening so we spent a lot of time inside jokers bar where we received very good service. We sat outside the bar area on the top deck one night, there was room this night because the beach party was on, my brother in law asked for another beer and was told to finish the last dregs of the one he had before he could order another one, who do they think is paying for this service, unbelievable, my brother in law does not drink a lot of alcohol but it’s not up to a young waiter to dictate what he drinks. The botanical and thai restaurant was good, we also went to the mall which was good but be aware you have to pay for some dishes and all beverages. We spoke to other guests and the experience was the norm with everyone’s holiday, tired rooms, no sun beds, reluctant to serve alcohol. Poor quality colas, tonics etc. Tipping was very expected for everything the staff do for you. My husband and I, our daughter and so in law also my husband’s sister and her hubby were very disappointed. This was our fourth visit to this hotel, we were quite embarrassed that we had recommended to family we all stay there, as previous visits had been great. There is great need for investment in upgrading the hotel rooms. We will not be staying here again. This is the first time writing on trip advisor I just wanted people to be aware of the quality of the hotel and service.

First of all I would like to say that even though a few disadvantages I have really enjoyed my holidays. Hotel is meant to be 5*, but for sure it is not. There is no wi-fi, only in lobby, but it is really slow anyway. Bathrooms were worst point of the room, the bathtub seems to need a reovation or a deep cleaning. Also lighting could be better in bathroom, it was hard to do the makeup. It looks like renovations are being done in a really cheap and fast way, some things are hanging on the wall, but one touch and it would fall down. Chairs on the balcoon in room are damaged (from sun I believe, but it was unpleasant to sit on broken leather, as it irritated skin) Room service could be better also, we did not have our room cleaned 3 days due to the open locking safe. (I understand it should be locked, but we didn't even notice that safe in the closet - it was open since beggining and room was cleaned... just after some time it was not. Because safe was empty, it sounded just like an excuse) So we had to look for towel man at our own and use tissues instead of toilet paper, as reception was not always a big help. What is suprising for me, waiters can speak english/german much better than lobby reception. We had unpleasant situation with broken mirror in room, we had to pay 60 euros even if it was not our fault, because a bird flew into room and hit mirror. We did not even have a chance to explain. What is interesing for me, is that room service did not notice lack of towels, but possibility to cash tourists for something, they saw immadietaly... :| But most tiring for us was this "tip culture". I was giving tips with pleasure to the waiters. They were always smiled, happy and willing to help. And as I mentioned it was easy to communicate with them. But men in the lobby? Terrifying, they even didn't ask, they just put hand to get a tip. "No" doesn't mean "no" for them. Behaviour like from streets not 5 star hotel... Also what I didn't like they were several times asking for a change 1$ to bigger denominations. At one point I had to show my wallet that I really don't have bigger denominanation. I've felt like a piggy bank, even though that I have already payed for that holidays. If you go for a dinner to la carte restaurant menu you have to pay for drinks. OK, I would understand that, but prices are high (compared to other restaurants beside hotel) and drink menu is just boring. There are few drinks, they all taste similar to each other and it is impossible to taste alcohol, unless you give a tip ;) Breakfasts were boring, every day same food. But big plus for fresh prepared eggs, cooks were really nice. I really enjoyed melange, perfect grilled meat and lovely service. Also I really liked staff in joker bar, also very lovely and always smiling. Parties at evening were mostly meant for german tourists, german music was playes. It did not disturb me, but I think some variety would be nice. Pools are beautiful, cleaned every day. But few leaves do not disturb, water is clean. For me the best was pool near joker bar, it was 1,6m or even 1,7m. Garden is my favourite thing about Makadi Palace, staff is really taking care of plants, palms were trimmed, grass was watered. Flowers just beautiful! We were in Makadi Palace in Mai and sometimes we were struggling to find free sunbed, so I think in high season it must be a problem. The reason why I chose Makadi Palace was Makadi Bay! Perfect for snorkeling, easy access from the wooden pier. Unforgettable views and memories. I think Makadi Palace should work on improvments, because without Makadi Bay it would be just a average hotel. Anyway thank you for beautiful holidays.

After a flight delay, didn't arrive at the hotel until around 3am. The check in was done very quickly. We were given a box of food and shown to our room. Room was much bigger than I expected with a large outside terrace. Bathroom a little tired but shower worked great. The hotel grounds and pools are stunning and the staff work so hard to maintain these. Our room was spotlessly cleaned each day and towels turned into different animals. Beach towels replaced most days also. Never had a problem finding a sunbed, even on days we got out late. The bigger pool near the joker bar was the quieter pool and the sunset pool had the aqua aerobics/zumba and water polo which were all good fun. The weekly beach party was the best night of the week and would recommend going during your holiday. The drinks im resort were OK. The beer in the sunset bar was on draught and tasted much better than in the other bars. The lunch menu there was also good and the staff there never left you without a drink (especially the funny manager there) The staff are all friendly and everyone says hello and they work so hard. The food isn't the best and doesn't change much but there are always a lot of options. The lack of WiFi didn't bother me too much and if needed I just went to the lobby bar to check phone, not a problem. There are security gates at the entrance to the whole resort and even taxis aren't allowed in. I found this made it feel safe and that the hotel put safety first. We did get a stomach bug towards the end of our break but this wasn't severe and didn't stop us enjoying our holiday. I know there have been complaints about this hotel not being all inclusive but nobody forces you to spend anything extra. You can eat at the restaurants and just have water or stick to the buffets and have the all inclusive drinks. You will be offered massages/photos/restaurant bookings but you only have to politely say yes or no, there is no hassling. We did briefly visit the mall shops but was hassled and chased there by a shop owner, which put us off and we didn't return sadly. There is a shop onsite. We did haggle the prices in there and paid a reasonable price for a few gifts brought there. Overall we had a great holiday and didn't want to leave this beautiful place and would recommend

This is by no means a 5 star hotel. If it's that you are looking for then try Maraki in Hurghada. Internet provision is just a complete joke here. Not available in the rooms ( yes at maraki ) and is a very poor service in the lobby area. In this day and age this is important and needs to get sorted. Hotel itself has a very well maintained outside area and it's clear to see that some repair work is going on. One comment before was about staff on the phones. Well this is still going on and has not been addressed. Food quality can be a bit of a lucky dip. Sometimes great ......sometimes not so great. 100 people sitting down for breakfast and one toaster is an example. Food gets cold while getting toast done. Taric on reception is exceptional. He knows how to give good customer service. Always willing to help and resolves issues very quickly. Taxi is an issue.....but I agree with the hotel that safety comes first. However a choice of taxi is exactly that. My choice. Quoted €40 euro for a hotel approved taxi to Hurghada airport......yet the flight we want from Hurghada to Cairo is on £51 euro. Changed rooms here after one night. We arrived in our room and found crumpled sheets with Mark's on. Looks like they had not been changed for our arrival. Other guests also mentioning room issues at the rep meeting. Beach is great and so far we have had no problem getting sunbeds or a mattress. MAKARDI do need to operate a RED FLAG policy like Maraki do. If the flag is present by the sunbed that means the customer does not need to be asked 5 times a day about a massage or photo or manicure etc etc. Why do they think it's ok to disturb your well earned relaxing break by constantly asking you to buy a service. If the answer was NO at 10.00am it is still no at 12.00. Red flag system needed.

Makadi Palace is a hotel with a vibe, with a special feeling - superb at day and night. It’s really a very nice place to stay. Although the rooms are “used” and might need to be refurbished, they are really spacey and clean; the food is very good and always plenty to choose from (both, in the main and a la cart restaurants, incl. Makadi Mall); staff are extremely nice and friendly and their service is excellent, and the hotel ["botanical"] garden and surroundings are just gorgeous. Although this might not really be a typical 5 star / boutique / luxurious hotel (considering the European standards), it’s a wonderful place to spend holiday. ..and we will definitely come back!

The outside of the hotel - gardens etc are really well looked after and the pool areas look really welcoming. We only used the Olympic Pool as it was heated. There were beds and umbrellas around the area and we managed to get one most days although even in Feb/March there were towels on the beds in the early morning. This was also the same by the sea - again think you would have to go down the night before to put a towel on the bed. Inside the hotel is looking very tired - its needs some TLC. We had a junior suite by reception. Nice size room and balcony. The first night the towel rail came off in our hand. On different nites the toilet roll holder fell off the wall and the hair dryer came apart in my hand. The one night the bathroom floor was flooded - coming through the wall from the room next door. All this was put right after visiting reception. Breakfast was OK not a bad selection but you get offered fresh orange juice which you have to pay for. There are a few restaurants to choose from - I managed to find something to eat most days. The soups were OK and the chicken on the BBQ. We ate at the Italian and French restaurant in the mall - ok but nothing special and it cost me £8.50 for a bottle of beer and small coke. Menu's don't change. Wifi is only available in the lobby and if you want a beer - you pay for all alcoholic drinks in the lobby - no idea why. So it really isn't all inclusive. Our room was clean and we were given clean towels and beach towels most days. We took our own toiletries. There was also a kettle in our room but no supply of coffee/tea bags. Fortunately I had taken my own supply and we were able to get plenty of bottled water. We also had a decent size TV. The staff are very pleasant but a tip is expected for almost every service. I spoke to someone who was staying in the Makadi Spa and they said they have tip box in the dining rooms - which I think is a good idea as it could be shared by all who contribute to the cooking, cleaning and waitering. The sea is very clear and even paddling you can see the fish swimming but there is no sandy beach. All in all a pleasant stay but no way a 5 star hotel.
