At the Steigenberger Makadi hotel, staff members receive accolades for their exceptional service, often going the extra mile to create a memorable experience. The tranquil atmosphere adds to the hotel's inviting charm, although some areas could benefit from a refresh. Guests commend the immaculate cleanliness across rooms and public spaces.
While the amenities, including diverse dining options, a pristine pool, and a well-maintained golf course, are popular, some guests feel the premium costs may not always equate to value. Room comfort is generally admired, yet a few travelers suggest a need for decor updates.

My wife and I visited this hotel in January 2025 not knowing we had been to the same hotel 12 years previous when it was under the name jaz makadi golf resort. We had a lovely holiday back then but now it has been taken over by a steigenberger it has gone up another level. Everyone from entering the hotel at reception, room cleaning service, chefs and all gardeners go out their way with welcoming smiles whenever you pass them. Now let's get down to the food, simply delicious in quality and choices everything you could want and so so much selection. Thankyou Reda for waiting on us every day morning and evening for supplying teas coffees wine and always with a smile. We had a romantic 4 course a la carte meal on the Sunday which was excellent. Everywhere was spotlessly clean from all areas of hotel and pool area. Our room was cleaned to a high standard leaving our essential water/coffee clean towels every day. Sunbeds around the heated pool area were always available and we're most comfortable we had ever had. Every member of staff as said previously go out of their way to make you welcome, a special mention to yahia down by the pool for cleaning sunglasses, making sure the gym was open and being there for us every day. Chef George this man is a credit to the hotel the enthusiasm and quality of food he presents at the pool restaurant are simply outstanding, thankyou George and finally vivienne the guest relations manager and Mr Amin hotel manager thank you so much for spending time every day talking to my wife and I making sure we had everything we needed during our stay. If anyone is thinking of booking this hotel definitely do it we certainly hope to return very soon. Thankyou all at steigenberger makadi. David & Carole Wynne room 6216 .

5* luxury hotel on the western edge of the Makadi Bay hotels complex. Strong in cheerful, friendly and excellent staff. Shuttle bus service to the beach (10 minutes) doesn't run after 5pm. Wifi is very poor with only 1.6 Mbps download, but maybe improved by 2025. Part of the JAZ Hotels Group.
Immaculate public rooms and well serviced bedrooms.
Food is well presented but can be a little tedious as salads, sweets, cakes, cold meats, etc are repeated each day for breakfast and dinner. The Beach Restaurant at the bay is a welcome alternative to the hotel's pool cafe.
Local alcoholic is OK and thankfully mixed with Schweppes - escaping the surge in FT from the UK! Local wine is thin with no aroma. Better wine is available for purchase at €40-240 per bottle.
Room TV has BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, ITV2 and BBC News.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
We have just got back from two weeks at this wonderful hotel and could have stayed a lot longer.
The staff here are extremely friendly and catered to your every need. It’s a small hotel that is extremely clean and the grounds and resort are maintained immaculately.
The room we stayed in was very large and overlooking the golf course with the sun in the afternoon for extra sunbathing and sunset in the evening. Plus the Tv had bbc1&2 and itv1&2 and three English film channels and news channels.
The food here was varied and lots of choices without being overwhelming like in some all inclusive hotels. Breakfast was a mixture of fresh juices, continental style breakfast, English style breakfast which was beef based bacon/sausage and beans plus a egg station where the Chef Kalyed created any style of eggs that you requested, we personally both thought that the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon was the perfect combination and was cooked to perfection and had them nearly every morning. As well as a selection of fresh breads, pastries, cereals, honey and jams.
Lunch is served at the pool bar/restaurant from a menu which consists of salads, sandwiches, pizza, and various main meals which include pasta, mixed grills, fish curry, fish and chips, grilled chicken as well vegan/vegetarian all made by Chef George who makes you feel at home and extremely welcome and regularly comes and checks that everything is to your satisfaction.
Dinner is served at the main restaurant where there is a different buffet/bbq every night as well as soups and salads/antipasti and a selection of fruits and cakes. The staff here make sure that your drinks are topped up and plates cleared, Mahmoud and Ahmed went above and beyond and provided excellent service.
The Bar has a cocktail menu that had a vast selection of drinks to satisfy everyone and the beer is Egyptian Stella. They have different singers and entertainment every night. But could do with a Dj maybe on a couple of evenings to break it up a bit.
We spent most of our days lounging around the pool and could always get a sun bed which were very comfortable and got looked after by Yehia who made made our beds up cleaned our sunglasses and made sure everything was clean and looked after around the pool.
We had a wonderful holiday and made lots of friends from all over which included Sheffield,Germany, Sweden and Norway. This is a more relaxed Hotel and not a late night party scene. The Wi-Fi seems to be a bit hit or miss. And would personally recommend getting a taxi/Uber to and from the airport which are quite reasonable. Speak to Azmy on reception who will help and goes out of his way to make your life more comfortable. We will definitely be going back to this hotel and met people who have been going there for many years and I think we will be one of them too. Highly recommend

Pool- one pool with not enough loungers for guests. Letters were provided to not put out towels before 8am but when arriving after 8am there aren’t any loungers to take? No music round the pool during the day and a very quiet atmosphere.
Staff- very accommodating and mostly kind; especially restaurant and housekeeping staff. Reception staff not as nice and come off cold and unwelcoming. Dress code is present for males which is not stated on their website or when we booked with TUI. They refuse to let you in to eat for dinner if you do not have trousers on.
Rooms- spacious and always very clean. Great big bathroom with a bath and shower. Large balcony. Payed for a golf view and got a view of a tree. Only room in the hotel which had a restricted view. Balcony door didn’t lock at all.
Food- probably one of the worst buffet all inclusive’s we’ve been to but it’s mostly aimed at older people 45+ so mostly boring food. Same a la carte menu every day for lunch. No shop inside the hotel so you have to venture out to get any snacks etc.
Beach- lovely beach with some activities like paragliding available and snorkeling. Shuttle bus takes you every hour. Can also ask for the hotel to take you out in a hotel buggy.
Golf- paid an extortionate amount of £120 for 18 holes with the hire of very worn Wilson clubs and a golf buggy. Views are nice but not worth the money. Rarely ever see anyone actually playing golf on the course.
Overall, wouldn’t come here again. Management is rude and doesn’t accommodate. Booked one room as late checkout which turned out to be till 6pm so asked whether we could pay the difference of 2 hours and they tried to charge us for a whole day which was 85 dollars. They refuse to take Egyptian pounds at the hotel also. Shop down the road will try to rip you off so I recommend paying with a card like Monzo or starling in Egyptian pounds. If you’re under the age of 40 and like to have a good time on holiday, don’t pick this hotel, you will regret it.

Responded Dec 18, 2024
Dear Ms. Klaudia, We would like to thank you for your visit in September, and for the time taken to share your review. We would like to thank you for all the points raised, positive and otherwise. It’s a shame that you didn’t enjoy part of the hotel services and atmosphere. We would like to explain the following points; The widely available hotel fact sheet indicates that the hotel has only one swimming pool. It is true, the reservation of unattended sunbeds in excess of one hour is not permitted. The hotel has sufficient sunbeds for the number of guests, so everyone can be accommodated. In addition, the pool attendants are there, and they are happy to organize and provide available sunbeds for your use. The hotel is designed with quiet and relaxation in mind. Therefore, we play only the house music at the pool, and very soft animation activities are provided. Also, this information is mentioned on the hotel website and any other related sites. Moreover, if you would like to check the guests' feedback on the various different review websites, you will find that all reviews describe the hotel as a place of pure relaxation. A boutique hotel such as this, with 93 rooms and a golf course, should provide an appropriate atmosphere. This is a key selling point for the product, and we aim to satisfy the needs of our target market clientele. This is exactly what we do. Dress code is only required during dinner time, in an air-conditioned restaurant. This is implemented according to the rules of fine dining. The green fee in Madinat Makadi Golf is 80 Euro, and it is competitive in comparison to the other 2 golf courses available locally. Soma Bay, which is 90 Euro or El Gouna 85 Euro. All golf buggies are in good condition and function very well. The food offering in the hotel is one of great pride. Our guests' satisfaction score reaches 97%. The lunch is based on a rich and delicious a la carte menu. During the dinner, we offer both buffet and a la carte menus to increase variety. The late check out has different categories, and if the guest would like to keep the room till 20:00, the charge is 85 $ as dinner is included. The All-In formula states that the guests' stay starts with breakfast and ends with lunch. Therefore, the price of the late check out after 18:00 must include dinner. We will remain at your service for any future visit.

Traveled with husband and daughters 16 and 19. Highlights of this hotel are most definitely the food and the peaceful location. We had one suite and one standard room and both were lovely but the suite is beautiful with the most lovely spacious terrace. Sadly the trees obscured the sunset and we were on 4th floor so ask to go higher and you will get the beautiful skys. The food in the main restaurant is outstanding, both breakfasts and dinners. We even had the most fabulous sushi one night which I can recommend. The pool bar is fine but service is hit and miss depending on who you get, they’re not all friendly unfortunately. The lunch menu is good and the chef is very willing to please. After some problems trying to use the automated restaurant booking service, we managed to eat at the Sofra Egyptian restaurant in Makadi bay for one evening. We all thought it was very good, great service, and the staff were lots of fun. It was also fun to ride the buggy down to the main hotels, browse some shops and even watch some football while we were there. Don’t miss out on the ‘romantic’ pool evening dinner. Food was fabulous and nice atmosphere. Reception staff didn’t really share lots of this information so make sure you ask to book. The pool area is lovely- comfy beds and great attention to detail with the ever smiling Ahmed cleaning sunglasses and moving beds around. Aqua gym and yoga were fun with the lovely entertainment guy and the evening acts were all good in the bar after dinner. We went down to the beach one morning and while it was nice to swim in the sea, there’s lots of sellers all vying for attention walking throughout the sun beds and this put me off so we didn’t go back. We didn’t try the beach lunch venue so I can’t comment. The biggest problem at the hotel (and this could be the same for many Egyptian locations) is the lack of Wifi. Without exception all guests were experiencing the same. So if like us you need to stay connected as a business owner this can be problematic. The staff were really helpful and offering hotspots etc but it’s a problem that needs solving. I was assured via email before visiting that there really wasn’t an issue, but there is. All in all this ticked all our boxes and next time I will know to expect to see no females working in the hotel which initially was quite strange and surprising. However, with so many returning guests they seem to be getting it right!

The Steigenberger Makadi is an older boutique hotel with outdated furnishings, but very well maintained. The hotel is located in the middle of an 18-hole golf course and sits above Makadi Bay with a wonderful view of the sea. We had a good international clientele and felt very comfortable from the start. Out of our 19-day stay, the WiFi hardly worked at all on 10 days, and it just about worked on the rest of the days. That's far too little for a hotel of this category and price range; we've experienced this much better in other hotels in Egypt. I know, of course, that I can buy a SIM card at the airport, but the basic WiFi coverage has to be stable, otherwise it's a clear minus point. In addition, the software didn't even know our room number and had to be tricked with other data so that our tablet could even be registered. A daily annoyance that spoiled our holiday fun! Now for the more pleasant experiences of this holiday: - no mosquitoes and no stomach/intestinal disease - Lunch à la carte, we loved the Caesar salad and the fish curry from the junior sous chef Ustäs Gerges Yousef - Our room 6126 had very good air conditioning, good mattresses and pillows and an excellent houseman, Ustäs Mahmoud (the best in 23 stays in Egypt). - The dinner was always very good. I would especially like to praise the sous chef Mahmoud Mohamed. We particularly liked his friendly and communicative manner. We had fun and joy every evening. - Our waiter Ustäs Abanoub on the outside terrace always served us well and entertained us at breakfast and dinner. My wife and I agree, here too, the best waiter (speed, skill, friendliness, communication, wit and charm) in 23 stays in Egypt. - The receptionist Ustäs Azmi, our personable, friendly and helpful Arabic teacher. Shortly before our departure, I made the following observation while I was standing at the reception desk. A German woman came and asked Mr. Azmi for help because she urgently needed a medically important medication. Mr. Azmi took a picture of the package, sent it to the pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist in Makadi Bay. 5 to 10 minutes later, a messenger arrived with the medication. My wife and I were overwhelmed. We have never experienced this level of service in any hotel in Egypt or on all our trips around the world - excellent!
Shortly before our departure, I told the general manager that he has a beautiful and very well-run hotel, but the greatest treasure of this hotel is the "team"!

This hotel is superb and we have had ,quite simply , a lovely 8 days here!!!
The facilities are wonderful and spotlessly clean. Our room was spacious ,with a nice lounge area and balcony overlooking the gardens. The mini bar was replenished daily with a variety of drinks and sundries, and the housekeeping kept it spotless during our break. There was also a nice touch of beach towels plus bag in the room which were refreshed in the nightly turn down service.
The pool area has plenty of sun beds , many have shades , but this was gratefully received when the temperature hits 40 plus degrees. The two pool attendants are very helpful and, again, keep the area immaculate .
The food is perhaps the best hotel cuisine we have had and the Chef’s are to be complimented. There is plenty of choice and variety provided . This is backed up by the waiting on staff who just cannot do enough for you. (particularly Ahmed who was very helpful)
The main bar ( Bogey Bar) is a lovely space to enjoy the variety of entertainers on nightly with an array of drinks on hand. We were looked after by Moustafa who is simply the most helpful, friendly and professional bar staff we have met. He is a credit to this hotel and goes out of his way to make guests happy.
I could go on but, to summarise , this hotel does not disappoint and is a must visit.

Overall 5* worthy. All the staff are really extremely nice and service minded and only want the best for you. The room (superior) is really nice, large and with a king-size bed (2 single 100x200cm), corner sofa, desk, huge bathroom with shower, bathtub, toilet behind closed door and wardrobe area. It's so nice and quiet everywhere here, even by the pool, and getting a sunbed is never a problem here. If you have any kind of food allergy, it is no problem, they make sure that there is varied food to eat and you can make specific requests, just let them know in advance. It is absolutely the best adult hotel we have been to so far. Don't hesitate to book a holiday here even if you don't play golf. Wifi is included, but be prepared for it to be slow :-)

We were at Steinberger Makadi on 22/1 - 29/1. We had all included. The hotel is very nice. Their pool is large and heated to comfortable temperature. We stayed near the pool, in an annex on the right side. All service was to our great satisfaction. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone always greeted and was helpful. Wifi worked throughout the hotel without any problems. There are plenty of sun loungers and staff can move them if needed. The dining room is a chapter apart. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful and they joke with the guests. There is a restaurant by the pool and the staff go around asking if we want anything. A lady walked around and asked how we feel about the hotel. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily and our cleaner was a bundle of energy unparalleled. There was even a guy who polished sunglasses for free. We experienced our stay in the hotel very pleasant and relaxing and can really recommend Steigenberger Makadi to all adults.

Hard review to write Amazing hotel Amazing staff Great location The food was really good, and we were having just the best holiday. But they have stopped using plastic bottled water, they supply glass bottles in your room and glasses of water in the restaurant and bar. After 4 days I got ill with stomach issues. Not sure from what, but I had only eaten in the hotel and stayed away from salads and cold food. I think the water caused me to become ill. Had taken me 2 weeks to get over the illness. It's a really shame as if I hadn't got ill this would have been a 6 out of 5 holiday. After reading reviews from others staying there over same period becoming ill it made me wonder. If they resolved this issue I would be going there every year.

Hi. I've been to Stegenberger three times this year but always booked through TUI so not able to help directly ... BUT they are excellent at customer services. Try Google and search for their email address and click on the JAZ Hotel link and use the Reservations address and I'm sure they will be able to help. A couple of quick tips ... book a taxi through the hotel direct as well. Its about 25/30 Euros at the last count. Also. if you are looking to do any trips/excursions, have a look at Viator. Very reasonable prices and good service - you do have to pay $5 per person additional fee for the transfer as Makadi bay is a bit further out. If you need anything else, just ask.
PS
The suites are AMAZING!!
There are more places to choose from in the Makadi Bay area.
