Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
The best all inclusive hotel we have stayed in!!
Wow, what a beautiful hotel. The luxuries started the moment we got out of our transfer vehicle and arrived at the hotel entrance which was beautiful, along with the lobby of the hotel which at night is even more spectacular- lit up in blue!
The hotel security was reassuring with our hold bags being checked through an Airport Style security scanner before we were granted access. Check in was super easy, and our room was allocated to us within minutes.
We stayed in room 1221 which was on the 2nd level, just a short walk along the corridor from the lobby area, in the ‘left wing’ of the hotel as you look from the road outside.
The room had everything you could think of. We were provided with toiletries which were replenished each day, a hair dryer, and an ironing board + iron at our request. We were welcomed to our room with a fruit platter and some macaroons which was very welcome after a long days travelling. The rooms were huge along with the bed which I think was the biggest bed I have ever slept in! The room features a dressing room area leading to the bathroom which hosts a stand alone shower and a separate bath. Our room had a lovely big balcony with seating and a table looking out over the pool area. The aircon in the room was great and kept it a lovely temperature (especially given that the outside temperature was hitting 40° most days). The room has a mini fridge stocked with chocolate, soft drinks and beers which is re-stocked every day, along with bags of crisps.
The staff everywhere were incredible. Particular shoutout to Mohammed Hassen who was working in the pool bar for the majority of our stay, but then moved to the beach bar. All of the hotel staff were amazing but he stood out in particular. He would bring our drinks to us when he got to know our go to drinks, without us even having to order them. In this hotel you don’t even have to leave your sun lounger to order drinks, the staff come to you and take drinks orders which is extra special. Be nice to the staff and they treat you exceptionally well👑. They really couldn’t do enough for you, offering to put your towels out on your sun loungers to bringing you drinks when they notice you’re low- exceptional!
That brings me on to the food and drink!! This is all inclusive ramped up a gear. I don’t see the need to go Ultra all inclusive at all, the standard all in is more than enough, in my opinion. The tamarind restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner and offers a huge array of food, there is quite literally something for everyone. In addition to this buffet restaurant for lunch, there is also the Bwala pool bar and the Tanga beach bar which serve up lunch. The Tanga beach bar serves an A la carte lunch (ordering from a menu) along with a help yourself buffet, whilst the Bwala pool bar suffers an A la carte menu for lunch. For dinner there are 6 A la carte restaurants which are all included once per week of your stay, in the all inclusive package. I will order them in our rankings:
Teppenyaki
Sushi
Noodles
Alex Beach Club
Tanga beach restaurant
Bwala pool restaurant
The teppenyaki, sushi and noodles restaurants are all located in the ‘S Square’ which is a courtyard area across the road from the hotel. They are part of the Steigenberger chain but I believe they are also welcome to the public. The restaurants are part of the all inclusive deal and consist of a 3/4 course meal chosen from a menu. The Teppenyaki was our favourite because it is cooked as a show infront of you which was really entertaining and the food was delicious.
The sushi restaurant was also delicious, the tastiest sushi we have ever had! We recommend the fried banana dessert and the hot and cold dessert- something we have not tried before but was gorgeous.
The noodles again was lovely, you could sit infront of the open kitchen and watch it being made but we chose to sit in the window seat to watch the world go by. All of these restaurants had aircon which was most appreciated!
The Alex Restuarant is part of the Steigenberger Pure Lifestyle hotel which is next door, but again is part of the all inclusive package at the AlDau resort. We chose to sit inside, again because of the aircon! The restuarant was lovely and modern, and the food divine. We both opted for the seafood risotto which was incredible.
The Bwala and Tanga restaurants were both very nice however extremely hot as no aircon- would recommend booking for as late as possible when the air has cooled a bit. The food was delicious, can recommend the Veal at the pool restaurant and the Mixed grill at the Tanga restaurant. Do not get me wrong, these are by no means the ‘worst’. They are all so amazing but we had to rank them!
In addition to all of these food options, food is also served in the Karibou lounge which is located in the hotel lobby. There is snack type food on offer here pretty much all day and you can help yourself, things such as cereal for breakfast, rolls and cakes for lunch and late at night there are different dinner options which you can help yourself to.
The drink options are extensive here. From alcoholic, to non alcoholic, and also including hot beverages, the list goes on- I really don’t see the need to opt in for ultra all inclusive here. The cocktails are all freshly made with garnish, and not from a can/ bottle like some hotels I have been to before.
The pool is huge. It all joins up in areas/ under bridges etc but is one huge expanse of pool. The temperature is perfect, it was displayed as being 27
degrees for the duration of the stay (the sea was 29°). There is a heated pool at the hotel too, not sure who would want to use that in this heat but there we go! There are three Hot tubs on an island in the centre of the pool area too, again not sure why you would want to go in them but hey! The pool has a lovely lazy river with donuts to float around in, and several waterfall features in the pool. There is a swim up bar (Bwala pool restaurant) and lots of activities to do in the pool- daily aqua aerobics/ Zumba and water polo/ volleyball nets etc!
On this note, you can also go to the neighbouring sister hotel - aqua magic as part of the package which has more pool space and kids play areas, along with an adult water park area (mentioned below).
Talking about activities, there is a fitness suite in the hotel, located below the Karibu lounge, adjacent to the Tamarind Buffet. The fitness suite is good for a hotel, doesn’t have everything you see in a big chain gym but is sufficient for a holiday gym. There are a few treadmills, bikes, stairmaster, rowing machine. There is a smith machine, standard isolated exercise machines, dumbbells, floor space, cables etc. The gym could do with better aircon, it’s quite warm in there when exercising but it’s cooler than outside! There is a water dispenser in the gym and flavoured fruit water on offer too, along with small towels to carry around with you. The gym is open 24/7 and there is also a personal trainer on hand if needed, not sure what hours they man the gym but he was in there whenever I went in (he was very friendly and chatty, unsure of his name).
Golf:
The golf as a whole was good. The course is by no means a standard par 72 course, as it is only nine holes and not very long at all. The 9 holes are all par 3’s with the longest being around 80 yards. If you’ve ever played pitch-and-putt this is what it’s like. The greens are very small, which makes it quite tricky and there is lots of water. It is a good test for your short game and pitching. The bunkers aren’t great and there is no ‘fairway’. It’s all one continuos cut except for the greens. However, with reference to pitch-and-putt the course is well kept for this level, with the greens being looked after well. I don’t think in the 40 degree heat a full course would be a good idea. For my partner, this was a really good and fun activity for the mornings, where you can play from 0730hrs.
Grounds:
This was the biggest thing for me. The grounds were honestly incredible. You land in Hurghada airport and see just baron land of desert and mountains and you can quite literally ‘see’ the heat, but you enter into the grounds of the hotel and it’s like you’re somewhere else. The grass, plants, trees, flowers and everything else is kept to perfection, with gardeners and groundsmen working 24/7 to keep it that way. I couldn’t get over how well they did in keeping something looking so fresh in 40 degree weather DAILY. As for the grounds in general, there was obviously a golf course, the huge pool, the beach, three volley ball courts, a beach football court, a basketball court, a games area with a pool table and table football and a cute band stand in the middle of a huge grass area. There is also a running track that circles all of the grounds. It is around 1.5KM long and has around 5m of elevation. It is clearly signposted and covers all areas of the beautiful grounds. It is perfect for early morning before the heat gets stupid.
All in all, as said at the start, this hotel was ridiculous. Ridiculously good. Everything was just of that brilliant standard which made our stay so good. The really minor problems we had with things like room keys not working and all the questions we sent their way, were sorted out instantly and with huge apology. I wish some places in the UK would adopt this way of hospitality because it really is like no other. Kudos to Steigenberger Aldau Beach Hotel. Honestly, wow.
Here’s some tips we wish we had before our stay on a review; from me to you!
- The Red bags: We walked round for a few days wondering what the red bags were that were hanging from a few of the parasols dotted around the pool. It turns out these are there to say that you don’t want to be bothered by salesmen for things like safaris, the spa, excursions and more. We were worried that staff with drinks and cold towels wouldn’t come round but they still do. If you don’t want people coming up to you whilst on your sun-beds, you can get these from the towel huts
- Cold towels: A lady comes around the pool area each day and hands out ice cold towels from a cool box. Extra touches like these are what makes the resort! A lovely little added touch which was very much appreciated in the 40° heat!
- Bring your own golf balls: If you’re wanting to play golf, they provide the course and the clubs but no balls; so bring some with you! Otherwise you’ll have to buy 8 balls for 12 euros that are pretty pointless when you’re playing once or twice. They wouldn’t let us buy less or return them afterwards for no cost.
- Free access to small water park: Aldau Beach has a sister hotel just across the road called Aqua Magic that you can get free day passes to. It has a different pool, a kids pirate ship play ground and a few adult water slides that are great fun. You just head over to their entrance and give your room number and you’ll get a wrist band giving you access to the pool and the all inclusive drinks etc. This hotel seemed a lot more compact and crowded than AlDau, and a lot more kids around.
- Book restaurants each morning for two days ahead: Bookings for the 6 a-la-carte restaurants go online at 1000hrs every morning and they go QUICK. They are available three days in advance but we went every morning when we were up at around 0800hrs and there were bookings for each restaurant 2 days in advance. We found it a good way of doing it! If you try and book in the evenings for the next day, you’ll find there are absolutely no bookings available (Especially Alex Beach)
- Beautiful sunrise: The beach at the resort is east facing, and therefore wicked for sunrise. We got up for it and it was definitely worth it rising out towards Giftun Island.
- Boat trips: Speaking of Giftun Island; it is a MUST to get a trip with Ilios Dive club in the resort. Full day trip with lunch, taken to Orange Bay which is pretty much an Egyptian Maldives, and two spots for snorkelling. It is definitely definitely worth the money that you won’t be spending elsewhere (because it’s an all inclusive) and it is stupidly cheap compared to what you would pay elsewhere.
- Shower room on last day: If you’re leaving late on the last day, they are happy for your to stay and use everything as you normally would. Ask for a shower room before you go to have a shower after the sea and pool, they’ll sort one out just before your transfer which is very needed!
- Dress code: You probably spent some time looking at dress codes in Egypt like us. Breathe a sigh of relief because in tourist locations like Hurghada they’re a lot more relaxed, especially in the resort. The dress code for the restaurants ask for trousers for men, but didn’t make a fuss about wearing shorts etc because of the heat! We chose to upgrade to this hotel two weeks before our holiday and it was the best decision we made. The hotel was very impressive on arrival and looked very clean and well organised on arrival. Great pools and Simba kids club which had a heated pool as well as a fab play area with sand. The large pools are too cold at 17degrees in Feb but they have a large heated pool. Really recommend the all inclusive package the buffet restaurant is fantastic with lots of varied foods for all tastes and the themes at night were impressive with a large selection and having options for kids such as fresh pastas.
We were initially given a family room on the end of the hotel which was clean, very spacious and set up for a family of four including a 4 month old. Initially we weren’t aware of the building work directly above room. This didn’t become as problem initially as we were out of the room during the day. When we noticed it was too much, it was dealt with an apology and an upgrade of the room. Also very impressed with Aleesa who came down to the restaurant personally to sort this out and finding us at lunch.
The tanga beach restaurant for lunch was great! The manager there was so helpful and several of the waiters were very friendly and provided a great service.
Special thanks to reception team like Ahmed Khamal, Mena from waitering! Must say great holiday and hotel! Recommend it!! 5* experience!

Due to COVID circumstances all over the world most of the hotels inside or outside EGYPT have downgraded their survice either in quality or workers capacity, but Steigenberger elDau did not. It kept the same quality of service, excellent food quality, well prepared rooms with very friendly staff workers of coarse with keeping social distancing precautions. Sanitizers all over the place all the staff wearing masks, tables in the restaurant are away from each other. Simply every thing was perfect. Repeaters have 15 percent discount and free access to one of the rated spas over the world. They have a french and eastern restaurants together with the main restaurants but to be honestly the main restaurant is much better. The beach is great and the water has no sharp stones except slightly deep inside where there is a relatively good place for snorkelling and diving. The first time I went there was 6 yearly ago the second time was 5 yearly ago and in that January 20201 it was the third and to be honest it is even more renovated and newer than the first and the second time. The animation team Need to be more active. The guest relations is perfect every day asking about any problems to solve. I would definitely repeat the visit again. The bad thing that when the capacity approaches full the rates are extremely high even for all inclusive but the rate I went with was very tempting.

We really liked this hotel as it is one of the best we had ever stayed at .
Starting from choosing this hotel and calling the reservation, Mr Abdul Aal was very helpful selecting us the best option for us as we were 4 families, he gave us best rates for best located rooms.
As we arrived Mr Mustafa at the reception was very co operative in finalizing our check in process.
You can smell and see the cleanliness and precautions regarding the COVID 19 issue from your first steps inside the hotel even the used pens after filling the applications are not used twice , everyone is wearing a mask “but you can feel their smile behind it “ .
Quality of food was great, facilities were more than expected, the view from the rooms overlooking the pool and the sea was very nice , special thanks to Mr Mohamed F&B director for his outstanding success in making our stay an unforgettable experience
Ammar at the Lebanese restaurant was very helpful during our morning stay on the beach
Thanks for the pool lifeguards as they were ready for any situation.
Totally recommended place to relax

The first thing that amazes you is the lush vegetation that surrounds you in the resort. Starting with the guys from the Lobby or with the ones from Housekeeping you are greeted with a lot of common sense, smiles, even if you don't see them from behind the mask, and any questions you might have, in maximum 1 minute some employee appears to help you. Special thanks to Moustafa Zidan (from Lobby) who helped us every time we asked him something, he even changed our money from banknotes into coins without comments or to wait for something in return.
The rooms are very airy and spacious, and on the 3rd floor the balconies are as big as terraces.
The food is very varied, and if you want to try the special sauces, our recommendation is to first choose the food / meat you want to eat and then ask the boy from the sauces which exactly matches what you have chosen.
At the pools and on the beaches you can find flat water at your discretion in specially arranged places so you don't need to warry about finding someone to get it for you.
Because we came with children, from 10am to 12pm we went across the road to Steigenberger Water Magic where there were slides and we could still enjoy all the benefits of AlDau Beach. A win-win combination.
We were very pleased with our stay here and when we come back to Egypt, we will definitely stay at the same location.
PS: We met a couple who have been coming to Egypt at this resort for 3 consecutive years and they are very happy every time.

Hello! I had a booking in advance for ‘Sunrise Resort - Adults only in Hurghada’ and upon arrival we had a horrible room with a horrible view and unprofessional horrible treatment. I checked online and found Steigenberger with the same price for last minute booking EL DAU and called them, they answered immediately and I told the receptionist that I’ll book through booking because I have a genius discount but asked for him to ensure that i have a good room with a good view and he was so helpful and promised me a colorful stay( MR SAAD, god bless him) So i booked the hotel 5 minutes before arriving to it and went to MR SAAD. I told him we’re a big family and I’m the youngest and they all trusted me with booking so i asked him to please not to embarrass me. He checked us in and handled all of us (8 very tired and angry family members) and pleased us and upgraded our room views for free. The room was beyond beautiful with a great view and the hotel is more than perfect, almost too good that the waiter would get sad when they ask us what to drink and we say ‘not now.’ They always want us to have a drink, have icecream and chill!! They always have classes to offer whether volleyball or pilates and music on the beach and pool! They have floaters and chaise-lounges in the pool and on the beach if you wanna chill/tan inside the water. The staff were without exclusion ALL FRIENDLY and ready to help with all their power. They have water coolers all around full of water bottles in case you’re thirsty while passing by, a jacuzzi a spa a gym You also get free access to the Steigenberger across for the aqua park and everything. Concerning the restaurant, the food is amazing!!! A variety of everything and everything is tasty!!! The animAtion team are entertaining and professional and the place is wide and spacious with activities always going on whether in the reception with a violinist or pianist or the club at night or randomly while you’re having dinner.

First of: this hotel amazes you not at first glance but after you actually spend some time in it. It is very clean, everything you touch is well made, and everything you see is kept in best condition. Food is good, we'll prepared, pay attention to ladies preparing omelettes in the morning they do such an awesome job. A la cart restaurants are were good especially Alex restaurant in pure life. Grass and beach are kept in immaculate condition, to the point that all of the grass is on a level of a high end golf course and you can't find a spec of sand anywhere besides the beach, how do they manage that I have no clue. Hotel has plenty of content to keep you entertained. Apartments are big with a very special feature: very good sound isolation (German quality I was talking about), you will not hear outside noise when you close your balcony doors. Pool is huge, and you kind of need to explore the resort to find out what it hides in many of its corners.
Useful tips: when having breakfast there is a pancake stand ind the corner, you need to ask for nutela :)
There are plenty of guys selling hotel services on the beach, they are good and pleasent guys but if you want to be left alone, you can ask for a red flag and hang it on your parasol.
If you want espresso coffee you can get it in lobby bar.
If you have any problem you can simply ask a guest satisfaction officer in the hotel lobby.
Suggestions to hotel management (I know you guys actually read these comments):
There are three volleyball courts, two have nets on men's height and one on woman's, but since volleyball is usually played in mixed groups, lower it a bit on the first court it gets used most often.
Please specify potential allergens in your menus and meal labels with a simple pictogram.
Always on wall socket would be super useful for charging devices while out of the apartment or keeping mini bar at cold at all times.
There is typo on one of your beach boards :)
All in all probably the best hotel in Hurgada. We will definitely be your guests again, thanks for a great vacation.

I stayed there with my family and friends, the hotel staff are dealing with the situation as if they were in the times before the pandemic. Staff are wearing masks and that’s it. Guests access the buffet to serve themselves though there is one staff member standing per buffet to serve but guests access the buffet all the time, guests don’t wear masks in the restaurant, beach towels are accessible in the towel stations exactly like before COVID times and no signs of Covid precautions with house keeping. Food was okay to average and no fresh juice on the breakfast buffet. I am not going again as long as COVID-19 is still there though this was my forth visit

It is my favorite hotel since 2008, however my last visit was on 2016, I came back after 4 years with very high expectations as it was one of the most luxury resorts in Egypt, a lot of things they could maintain and keep it over the years like the amazing landscape, Food and beverage, easy check in, especial treatment to their loyal guest and I believe the secret behind that they have a very professional loyal senior staff, my check in in few minutes, yet the luggage arrived a bit late.
Also I have to high light that I had some issues regarding little things but once I meet Mr. Mohamed Darwesh (front office manager) and Alice from guest relation they totally transformed my impression they took a very fast actions and did their best to made my vacation remorable and exceptional especially Mr. Darwesh was very careful to help and support on daily basis.
the room is very spacious with amazing view and very nice set up
Most of the staff are very helpful.
Alexander restaurant is amazing, and tanga restaurant is very good, noting that a la cart restaurants subject to availability and reservation
Kids club is very nice and staff are so helpful, as well the entertainment team are very nice.
Areas of development
The junior staff are not so professional especially the reception guys I believe they need more training and to be more oriented
House keeping not as experienced before and the amenities need to be reviewed as tooth paste, also the pillows need to be renovated.
Service and food variety at the main open buffet restaurants not as expected also it is missing some luxury touch.
The main pool is not cleaned and maintained well

Let’s start with the site! Very close to the airport this makes it very easy. We were lucky with the winds as no plane was flying over the resort during our stay except the last day when we got 2. The garden is just awesome and the pool is amazing. Not crowded and with the choice to enjoy the beach or the park. Bravo to the gardeners. Staff is always nice in all places and the windsurf and scuba dive team are great professionals. The boats to go diving are super clean and well equipped, staff is top and make the trip super enjoyable. One suggestion would be to make the pictures taken on each trip available for purchase as a package at the end of the week not after each trip. Food is great in all places but the booking system to select the restaurants (6 of them for 1 visit) is poor. The rooms are spacious and most of them are directed to the sea with a view over the park. We have had a problem with a strong noise due to a generator on the roof and they found us two communicating rooms the following day in a quieter area. Now the frustration: my wife took a 100€+ treatment at the spa and returned very frustrated as the masseuses was rough and treated her like a ‘piece of meat’. She seemed frustrated to do her job and wasn’t listening to the request to be more gentle and wasn’t communicating else than with signs like a policemen’s at a crossroad. What a disappointment. Hopefully not a generality but it doesn’t give a chance for a second visit. Also weird that at the massage they cash you in directly at reservation whilst all other activities get on you room. Anyway a great experience in a lovely place although more for those who like bigger places than discovering little jewels and exclusiveness.
