The Galapagos Pearl is a charming bed and breakfast retreat in a quiet, residential neighborhood in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island. It is located one and a half blocks away from Charles Darwin Avenue, the main tourist street of downtown. It is a convenient walking distance from the heart of town and a block and a half away from the sea. It offers a peaceful ambiance and is surrounded by lush, native Galapaganian gardens. The hotel itself is Eco-friendly using recycled rubber for roofing, biodegradable soap and shampoo, and biodegradable cleaning products. We also take pride in keeping a green existence by recycling and composting.

Detailed Reviews
This is a good bed and breakfast! Good location, only a 5 minute walk to the start of the road where all the restaurants and bars are located. We had the room on the top with a view and it was really good with a nice view although a little noisy as you can hear the people who live in the buildings surrounding the property. The bed was big and the mattress was excellent! The breakfast was good, eggs how you want them with a coffee, juice and yogurt. Our only complaints were just small things but simple things that shouldn’t happen, we used the toilet paper and there was no spare toilet paper in the room? Someone took the small towels and didn’t replace them? The Girl who checked us in was great and very helpful! She advised that we could top up our water bottles when required but one morning at breakfast the water container was empty and when we advised the lady who cooked the breakfast she didn’t seem to happy that we wanted to fill our water bottles up and advised it was for a glass of water if you were thirsty, very strange?

This cute little place is the perfect mix of great location yet quiet. You can walk short 1-2 blocks to one end of the Malecon (aka waterfront). Right there are restaurants and coffee shops and the fish market. A Short walk away are banks, travel agencies and a million souvenirs shops. all the other hotels on the Malecon seem to be too close to the action to have truly quiet rooms. But this Galapagos Pearl B&B is just far enough off the Malecon and it’s in an interior courtyard to it’s surrounded by family homes. So, super quiet. Great breakfast prepared exactly as requested too. I feel lucky I found this place!

We stayed at the Galapagos Pearl for 3 nights. It was really quiet and peaceful. It is a family run establishment and everyone was so nice. There is one room with an ocean view and a few other rooms with small balconies. Most of the rooms have AC. There are two pools and a ton of greenery on the property. It was nice to wake up to the birds singing. The breakfast was good. The main part of town is only a few blocks away, even though you feel as if you are in a garden somewhere far away from everything. Keep in mind that the wifi and cell service on the island are spotty. The best place to get wifi on this property is in the eating area, near the router. I don't think we had wifi in our room.

An overall subpar experience that I cant recommend.
The cons
All the lights were bright white fluorescent, like it was a hospital. The main light is a flood light that has no shade. Even the night lights are bright white. The room in general looks very bleak and minimal. There's one painting of sea lions and that's it.
Our TV was broken and the hotel didn't do anything about it. They gave me a story about how they are getting new tvs soon, but only after several days of asking them what was the status via whatsapp. I understand watching TV is not the point when comimg to the Galapagos, but you'd be surprised by the amount of downtime you have.
I asked them not to come into our rooms for cleaning service. They decided to come in the second to last day I was staying. It's frustrating when there's no sign I can leave on the door.
This place generates a lot of noise. I heard full-on parties from public pools that were across the street. I heard multiple dogs barking at all different hours. When it's windy, everything shakes and bangs across the building, especially the hammock on our back patio.
Wifi is pretty bad. I dont hold it against them too much, since internet in general is bad. I will say, in comparison to other spots, this place had the worst wifi. If more than a few people are logged in, becomes unusable.
Not every window has blackout curtains. This may be a little thing, but it's pretty annoying to try to take a nap in the afternoon when you can't really block out all the light.
The pros
Not everything was bad about this place. The "patio" area and pool area looked quite nice and inviting with all the tropical vegetation.
The AC works quite well. The best part is having a lip on the edge that I can adjust where the air blows. This can be the difference between sleeping comfortably and being frozen in bed.
I like that they give you big commercial size bottles of shampoo and conditioner.
While they have they limited breakfast, I like that it's fresh and made in front of you.
The beds here, like any other place I've tried in the Galapagos, are pretty hard, but they felt softer than other places. The pillows were actually comfy and supported for my neck.

Thank you for your review. We will take into account what was said. Unfortunately, we cannot control noise from neighboring areas, but are sorry it was not to your liking. We have not heard this review about our lighting before, but will use your feedback to improve the stay of other guests. The tv is being replaced. We are happy you were able to stay and had a positive experience as well.

Worst hotel experience ever. This is a 1 Star hotel at best. The place is dirty and lacks basic maintenance. Everything looks worn and not looked after. We stayed 2 nights and had no hot water for showering. The first morning we were told both cold and hot taps needed to be on before hot water would come out, which doesn’t make any sense but we tried it later in the day and of course it didn’t work and neither did it work the next morning. Problems getting room serviced-finally happened around 5 pm; no TV remote; minimal breakfast; tea bags that looked mouldy; dirty towels; 2 pools both dirty; bedding and curtains have not been upgraded since the 70’s; room size misrepresented. Was about 1/2 the size and definitely not a suite. Overall a horrible last couple of nights in Santa Cruz

Response from The Galapagos Pearl Hotel, Owner at The Galapagos Pearl Hotel

We really tried to please you since day one: 1st) Before arriving to Galapagos, we waved the non refundable policy when you decided to modify your dates last minute. 2nd) we answered your million question via mail. 3rd) We offer continental breakfast (2eggs, bread, jam, butter, fresh juice, coffee or tee.), even though we offer that, we mix it up and give them variety, pancakes or fruits and yogurt. Since your wife was gluten intolerant, we prepared plantains, yuca dishes….for her to try and she didn’t even taste it. 4th) As far as the Suite details: I personally brought new accessories in October from the USA for the hotel: towels, curtains, hair dried, mats, kitchen equipment. 5th) The hot shower works and is very hot water. It does require for you to open both nozzles for the hot water to get up there. ( it requires a a bit more pressure than other rooms in the lower floors. Taking into account your observation we are installing a private water heater for Suite #7&8 in the third floor. 7th) We are always giving maintenance to the hotel, and cleaning pools and paths. We have vegetation and beautiful gardens, is normal for leafs to fall. We can not control where it falls or where the wind takes the flowers, leafs or fruits, that is why we are constantly swiping, mopping and picking up. 8th) The funny thing is that you didn’t even like the giant tortoises because they were so muddy :( 9th) I hope you enjoyed at least something from Galapagos. +1
An excellent hotel in Puerto Arroyo. I was there for six nights on business with our group. Room was clean and comfortable. Air conditioned either well. VERY hospitable hotel team. Only problem is one on Galapagos, adequate water supply. No pr on ken with afternoon shower. Nice eggs and fresh bread with good coffee breakfast. Great location. Nice pool. Quiet yet a short walk to Darwin Av. I will stay here again on my next trip to Galapagos. They also run day tours to many islands which if I had not prearranged I would try because the people are so nice

If I could give the Galapagos Pearl higher than 5 stars I would! We stayed here in January 2021, and can't recommend it highly enough!!!! Yolanda and Shirley were INCREDIBLE and so warm and welcoming and helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. The B&B itself is clean and beautiful with a pool and lots of hot water and strong enough wifi. Yolanda makes you a DELICIOUS and gigantic breakfast every morning. We really felt like we were staying with the family... and not just in another hotel.

Quiet yet close to everything. Very friendly & helpful staff. The pool was so refreshing. I slept so well here, the room was clean and comfortable with impressive a/c and hot water. I was so happy to have found this spot, I was only on Santa Cruz for a night but I’ll definitely return!

Lovely small hotel. Well located. Quiet but a short step away from everything. The owners could not have been more accommodating and nice. I will be staying there again next year when i return. Solid breakfast. Very relaxing.

My friends were staying here and ever time I went, Yolanda made me feel like I was in my own hostel!!! So much kindness in this please!
All the tours we took, were coordinated by her.
You must stay here! And it is 1 block from the main street

Hola Ellie,
I would recommend to wait until you are in town.
We can help with last minute deals for tours upon your hotel arrival. I can be easily organize.
Best,
Jheferson
The Galapagos Pearl arranged a driver to meet my husband and myself at the airport and facilitate our trip via bus-ferry-taxi to the hotel. It cost $49 which we paid to the hotel. Since we had a 27 hour trip prior to our arrival, I knew I would be too brain dead to do this on our own. Their driver, Ivan, also was very informative during the trip. We emailed the hotel to set this up ahead of time. Good luck!
Room #7 was nice, it was one of the bigger ones on the top floor, and it had a side room that looked like a yoga studio. The only downfall is there is no elevator, but the stairs are pretty easy to climb. Room #8 would be the best room in my opinion if that is what you are looking for.
