As other people have already said the location of Vista al Mar is excellent! We stayed for 4 nights and the service was everything you could want for the price you pay. We had to add an extra night too and the host was very accommodating to that need.
We would definitely recommend it as a place to stay.
I think we were room 2 which was really near the reception area and we could hear everything that anyone said within the communal areas but it was not at any crazy times so all good. We also had air con in the room which was a must for me!

Positives: Perfect location, very close to the bus drop-off, pier, and many restaurants, stores and tour companies. You can easily meet people in the little courtyard, play with the cat and relax in a hammock. Free coffee and shared kitchen. Negatives: Hot water in the shower was lukewarm at best and wifi was very slow. The walls are paper thin and the rooms are all near the courtyard, so you can hear people talking even in a normal voice. Also, the hostel plays loud music throughout the day until about 10 pm. To sum up: Maybe good for some, bad for others, depending on your preferences and priorities.

This hotel is a little gem in Santa Cruz. The garden is a good place to chill and the staff can help you organise anything you would like to do (including camping on one of the beaches). The kitchen is fully equipped and the beds are very comfortable.

We didn't stay in the hotel but ate in the restaurant and it was a nice surprise. Innovative and delicious cocktails. The fish and seafood - as might be expected in the Galapagos - were excellent and so was my daughter's mixed meat platter. A bottle of Ecuadorian wine was surprisingly good. Very comfortable and relaxing setting right on the water. Minor point: the service was a little slow.

If you’re looking for a really cheap place to stay, then maybe you’d like this place. I say, spend a little more for a better experience. This place had good reviews, but there were too many cockroaches for me. We left and found somewhere else to stay.

We spent two different nights in two different rooms. First room was room no.4 and it was situated inside of the complex with the view to the garden, spacious and clean. Second room was room no.1, also spacious situated right next to the entry to the reception and that one could be a little bit cleaner, it was not the end of the world, but still(especially the cover for a bed could have been washed better). What I really did not like was that it had covered mold on the wall and was extremely noisy. Both nights served its purpose, but if we needed to stay longer, I would be probably really bothered by this. The staff however was very friendly and kind, happy to help with everything. Both rooms had a good hot shower (you appreciate this in Galapagos). The part of the complex was also a equipped kitchen and spacious tables outside. Also, the cold and hot water to refill your bottle. I also liked that they had bins for recycling. All for good price.

My wife and myself arrived by mistake to this hostel, but it was a great mistake.
On the first day on the island my wife got very sick, we needed a doctor and the owner, helped us get one very quickly to the room!
After one day i had to take her to the hospital, again the owner was very helpful at all that was needed and even in the next few days we spent in the hospital he came to visit and ask our condition and even brought me breakfest...
I know its not a "usual" review.. but this is priceless in times of need. You can trust this place for all the help you will need on the island.

I normally only review places I really or mostly liked and just ignore places I didn´t particularly like. But when I find a place with significant failings, I feel it´s important to call them out. My family stayed in the 4-person room (room 8) two nights, and only stayed the second night because we were on a day tour in between and could not manage to change hotels. We were so sad to have finished a fairly smooth 2 1/2 weeks in Galapagos at this place.

On the surface the place looks like like nice deal for a budget traveler. The rooms are spacious, tiling is in good condition, sheets are changed daily and are clean. But in the two nights there we faced: two people mildly electrocuted in the shower, water dripping on the bed through the ceiling, barely a trickle of water from the faucet, no toilet paper, and this is the only place in the galapagos we were never able to get the wifi to work at all, despite every galapagos network trick in our book. Let´s also be clear that their sign advertises air conditioning, laundry service, and Vista al Mar, none of which they actually have. But we can overlook these smaller issues.

The major issue is the electric shock our children received while actually in the shower. Yes, standing in water. Both had complained that their hands had seized for several seconds when touching the shower knob and complained of muscle pains after their showers. We immediately notified Robert, who explained that this problem had occurred in the past, but they thought it was fixed. He assured us it was only about 20 volts of electricity when you get shocked but offered for us to take a shower in a second room if we wanted. The next day we were informed there was no need for us to take a shower in another room because our´s had been fixed. That was fast. How do you fix a major electrical wiring problem without tearing apart the wall to insulate the wiring from the plumbing? As far as we can tell they only replaced the shower head heatng element. Now, which is more likely, that a very widely-used Lorenzetti heated shower head shocks people each time it goes bad, or that the wiring in the room is so faulty that electricity is entering the plumbing? I´m guessing Lorenzetti has ensured their product is safe. Needless to say the family was absolutely too afraid to take any more showers in the room, and we all refrained from showers until we got to the next hotel.

I can overlook many things in budget hotels, but basic responsibility for guest safety is not one of them. A hotel that knows there is an electricity issue where people are _in the water_ and does not take time to fix it properly to ensure guests are absolutely safe just should not be hosting people.

Friendly owners Robert and Matilda will make sure you have a great trip. The lovely hotel is spacious and comfortable and well cared for. It is clean as can be and linens are changed/room cleaned daily. Wifi worked great! There's space to spread out outside your room including a hammock/garden area. The location is perfect - just walk outside and grab a taxi or walk the main city streets. English is spoken and Robert can help you plan your day. A really great find - excellent value for the money! A great base to enjoy all Galapagos has to offer!

This hostal was located close to the beach. Very convenience to walk around. Restaurants, tour agencies, pharmacy were within a walking distance. The pier for cruise and daily tour are very close right around the corner. The facilities of the hostal were acceptable. However, the shower was not strong enough. A Bed was okay. The Wifi was very slow(typical for the internet in the Galapagos) Staffs were nice and friendly.
