Stayed while we waited for our cruise to start. Easy walk from where the bus drops you off and only 5 minutes from the main town streets. Breakfast is very plain with just juice and an egg with bread. Pool looked ok but didn't use it. There is a laundry place just round the corner $1 for a kilo. Room is large and very basic but it was fine for us.
I've read some of the unfavorable reviews from around the same time we stayed at the Verde Azul. We had a completely different experience. On our first stay on Santa Cruz we had stayed somewhere else where we'd paid a lot more and were quite disappointed. When we returned to Santa Cruz after visiting Isabela and San Cristobal we had our final night on the Galapagos at the Verde Azul. We thought the hotel was good value compared to where we'd stayed on our first visit and appreciated the pool, which we had not had at our previous accommodation in Puerto Ayora. It was not too far to walk down to the main street or the Darwin Center. Our room was fairly basic, but spacious enough for two people and perfectly adequate. We had no problems with noise - perhaps it depends what part of the hotel you are in. Our room was not facing the street but towards the back, and one level down from reception and the pool area. The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fairly basic but OK - served by the pool.…
I would not recommend this hotel or stay here again - our stay unpleasant in many ways. To mention a few of the issues the rooms were not insulated from outside noise, the air con very loud, contradictory and unclear information given from staff, poor WiFi and an average breakfast.
Galapagos Verde Azul looks like an hostel valued 20 us $ a night, but they ask 65. It is far from center and turistic Malecon. The room was so small that with the luggage we couldn't move and without anything. No space to hang clothes or where dry bathsuits. The bathroom was old and in bad conditions, no space. The place smells humidity. The swimming pool is very small and the view from the hotel and the rooms is terrific. The only good things are the kindness of the girls at the reception and the breakfast, but I would not recommend the hotel. There are better for same price in the center!
I booked my room 6 month before the stay with one single request: I want a quiet room. This is what we got: room with “windows” only to the corridor of the hotel. One “window” was only o hole in the wall with the mosquito net. No privacy, no sound protection! The room was also just below the breakfast room, so since 6 a.m. we could not sleep. Second day I went to complain to the staff and demanded another room. They said us I could be a while, but a group of tourist would soon check out. It repeated every second day. When they offered us another room some 36 hours before our checkout I took it as a bad joke. I strongly do not recommend! As a good-bye gift we found this bug in the room.
