"Semilla Verde is an exceptional hotel with the customs and personality of a traditional guesthouse." We believe your experience in the Galapagos Islands should be as unique and natural as you are. So, here at Semilla Verde we offer you the chance to stay somewhere far removed from your busy life and the standard hotel offering you may be used to. We invite you to step into another world, the original Galapagos, the true and enchanting islands. And, to experience the wonders of a rural forest dwelling and life alongside the unique wildlife you came so far to see. Your stay will be based in an original and idyllic rural retreat where peace, privacy and Galapagos wildlife abounds. You will enjoy one-to-one personal service, traditional home cooking, panoramic views from private terraces and exclusive access to nature trails through twelve acres of private forest where giant tortoises lumber freely and native birds thrive. At night, gaze up into the unspoilt majesty of the milky way. Nine comfortable en-suite bedrooms with AC, WiFi and DVD just 15 minutes taxi ride from Puerto Ayora town, costing just $7 e/w. All in all, an authentic and genuinely friendly and authentic land-base for your Galapagos adventure and an all encompassing alternative or add-on to a traditional cruise ship experience. Semilla Verde works with a local tour agency to offer complete hotel & tour package options too. You will visit outlying islands and local sites with qualified naturalist guides and experience first hand the beauty of Galapagos and it's unique flora and fauna - from giant tortoises and lava lizards to marine iguanas and playful sea lions, from volcanic landscapes to cloud forest. Return to the hotel at the end of an incomparable day and share your travel stories around the main dining table with other guests, whilst enjoying dinner freshly prepared in our kitchen. Indeed we don't work from a fixed menu rather we generally prepare one recipe for the group, but each guest receives a serving according to their individual preferences. The location is secluded but convenient and very safe. There is not another residence within hundreds of meters of this oasis. Semilla Verde remains true to the philosophy on which it originally built for good friends and family, ensuring a level of intimacy, small number of employees offering very personal service and home cooking your will only find in a traditional guesthouse. Semilla Verde comprises two hotel buildings some 100ft apart - the Semilla Verde Lodge (Rooms 1-6) and the Finch Wing (Rooms 7-9). They can work in unison or as separate entities for separate parties. Between the two there is a fully equipped yoga studio where you can enjoy individual or group practice. Galapagos is famous for it's volcanic landscapes and unique wildlife, but it can also be somewhere for you to rediscover your true and unique nature, somewhere you can feel yourself again.

My stay was wondeful. The room was large, quiet and comfortable. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The property has some little paths to walk. The dog, Sava, was very sweet and smart She likes to play fetch. I love my stay!

Hotel's Favorite
For a boutique property (9 total rooms I believe), the amenities and service are outstanding. Communication in advance of your visit is excellent. Arrive with a smile from Cattya who manages the property so well, and she also functions like a personal concierge offering to make various reservations, taxi calls, and educate you on the best places to visit and dine. Rooms are well appointed, we were upgraded to top floor of the main house, room 9, which has a fantastic view all around. The smaller lower level rooms in the Finch House are nice too with a hammock and walk out straight to the tortoises; but we definitely enjoyed the upgrade. The wood finishes are a little more island-rustic than a resort hotel, but that is part of the charm. Plenty of spots to lounge outside your room too. The classic jazz playing in the main living/dining areas, the yoga/workout bungalow, the wrap-around porches with hammocks, the short hiking trails to watch tortoises... Food at the hotel was better than most of the restaurants in town. Super fresh fish, fruits, juices, veggies; and no worries about intestinal issues whatsoever. We were glad we decided to stay away from the town bustle, and it is just a 20 min taxi to everything. On our last night we dined at the best hotel, the Finch Bay, and walked the property. That place is beautiful as well, situated on a private point closer to town, and much bigger of course, handling National Geographic tours. We would have stayed there if not at SV; the new wing and pool is gorgeous and modern. The service there was not as consistent however, at least for our dinner; which is part of the trade-off for size and predictability. It is not the Ritz Carlton so don't expect that. But if you are open to a unique, quiet, relaxing experience with personal attention that you won't find at the larger hotels, book Semilla Verde. From a typically critical luxury traveler, that is high praise; it was well earned!

Thank you very much for your review and for being the very first guests to visit since the COVID-19 forced our closure in March. We are so glad you enjoyed the property. Room 9 does indeed command some impressive views and the tortoises on the property all year round make Semilla Verde quite unique. All of our rooms have large sliding glass doors, leading out to private terraces where you can enjoy these natural views and the giant tortoises feeding on the lush vegetation or wallowing in our ponds. The Concierge + service was provided by Cattya and your delicious home cooking was provided by Gladis, Bertha and Zully. And the grounds (and coffee) are maintained by Efren. Fortunately we were able to maintain our team during the crisis and as such were able to prepare the hotel for our guests return. All the necessary COVID-19 protocols are now in place, from hand sanitizing stations to regular deep cleaning, and kitchen prep. We are now certified 'Safe Travels'. And, you can be assured that the team will work tirelessly to provide you with a safe and enjoyable experience in the Galapagos. The same applies to the taxi drivers that we employ and the third party day boat operators that we contract on your behalf if you opt for a hotel-tour package. The hotel has large open plan and well ventilated restaurant and social areas, a large yoga/exercise studio, and 5 hectares/12 acres of private forest with nature trails. So, private space and social distancing are never an issue :) For those thinking of visiting the islands, you can fly to Baltra (GPS) that serves Santa Cruz Island where we are, via either Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE). Some flight itineraries will require an overnight stay on the mainland, prior to the 1hr 40min internal flight to the islands. Avianca and LATAM have regular scheduled flights. You will need certification of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within ten days prior to arrival in Ecuador, but only four days prior to arrival in Galapagos (GPS). If you will require a second test on the mainland prior to traveling to the islands, then we can help facilitate that with an approved test centre in either Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE). However, if you are able to time your test and your flights together, then you will be able to avoid that second test. There is some other paperwork that we will provide you with such as a 'safe conduct' pass (salva conducto) and a health questionnaire that you need to fill out and bring along with you. Health/travel insurance is also a requisite. Cases of the novel coronavirus in Galapagos are very few and the islands have incorporated strict measures to keep it that way. However, these safety protocols are not intrusive and still allow you plenty of freedom and space to enjoy these majestic islands and their unique wildlife. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me via info@gps.ec.

We loved our experience at Semilla Verde. The entire staff was so welcoming and friendly. We loved the animals on site - the giant tortoises, and the resident cat and dog :) ! We enjoyed going for walks on the property's paths and spending time in the pool after a long day of exploring the Galapagos. We appreciated the relaxing and quiet vibe of the highlands area, which is a taxi ride to Puerto Ayora. Thank you for a trip of a lifetime!!

Dear Emily, Thank you so much for your review and it was our pleasure to offer you "a trip of a lifetime!". Semilla Verde Boutique Hotel was originally designed for friends and family to escape from the stress, hassle and routine of everyday life. And, that is never more true than it is today as we share that philosophy and welcome individuals, couples, families and groups from overseas. Fortunately, the coronavirus outbreak has not affected the Galapagos Islands as it has other places, thanks to the timely closure of the islands and national park areas, and effective isolation procedures. The islands have been hit very hard financially as a result of these actions, but the islands' residents are safe and healthy, which is the most important thing. As a community, we are all now planning for, and looking forward to the day that we may welcome visitors back, safely. As such, we are working very hard on protocols on a national and local and hotel level to ensure that when guests do arrive, both they, and our staff and guides, can interact and enjoy the islands, safely. We are a very small business that prides itself on one-to-one, personal service. We have a very limited number of rooms and each has it's own private outdoor area, with views to the forest from your hammock. There are several large open plan social areas that mean that our guests can spread out safely and enjoy the property. Also, nature trails that wind around 12 acres/5 hectares of private forest, so. you can share your private, personal down time with a giant tortoise, not a gaggle of tourists, which is a most humbling experience. We also have two, spacious open plan restaurant areas with separate kitchens, so guests can still dine safely in an intimate surrounding, without any crowding. We do not employ a buffet style and all guests will be served directly, and personally at their table. That all means that once we are able to welcome tourists back we will be able to respect social distancing guidelines. We are also implementing strict hygiene and safety procedures too, for the benefit and security of each and everyone present, and will be publishing those shortly. Anyone with plans to visit the islands in the future may write to me directly via rob@gps.ec for more information. Thank you again for such a wonderful review. It's very encouraging and motivating to read your words, and they give us all hope and expectation for a return to some sort of normality in the near future. Our very warmest regards, Robert, Cattya & the SV Team.

We chose Semilla Verde based on the glowing reviews and they did not disappoint! The location is stunning. Miles of hiking trails on the property, where you see all manner of vegetation, land turtles and many very tame birds. The cuisine is outstanding and the host is charming, helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Finch wing were we had a spacious room, lovely balcony and stellar view of the property. We were there at the end of our Galapagos journey, just as Ecuador was closing its’ borders, so we needed to cut our stay there short. I hope that one day we will be able to return.

Dear Ranmontana, Thank you so much for your lovely review of Semilla Verde Boutique Hotel, and we're very sorry you had to cut your visit short due to COVID-19. We're currently in total lock down on the islands with the hope that the crisis will pass sooner rather than later so we can welcome guests through our gates once again. The great thing about being a relatively small operation is that we can dedicate ourselves wholly to our guests and make sure they have the best possible time during their stay. That, coupled with a property spanning 12 acres (5 hectares) means that you have the space to enjoy the walking trails, privte forest and giant tortoises and birdlife, without any crowds. On your return you might choose one of our semi inclusive hotel-tour packages are designed to give you maximum exposure to Galapagos in a short visit in a tight, affordable package. They include the very best visits to wildlife hotspots on nearby islands via full day boat tours. Also, the must do's of Santa Cruz via half day guided tours/self guided activities. And for larger family groups and specialist groups such as kosher and yoga we can offer full inclusive packages with a full itinerary of tours and activities with all the meals included. Our entire menu can be adapted to whatever dietary restriction our guests' have such as vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten free, kosher, etc, etc. We pride ourselves in being flexible to meet everyone's requirements and thereby give them the most comfortable, enjoyable and tailored Galapagos experience possible. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. In the meantime, please stay safe. Warm regards, Robert, Cattya & the SV Team.
