This hostel has been closed (9 January 2016). The management said that East Timor Backpackers will reopen in 4-5 months on a new location, and will have three dormitories and no private rooms. The new location is just around the corner from the current, but away from the busy main street on which the former hostel was located. The cheapest... More

Amazing people run the place. Its a home away from home. The family are very courteous. Felt as though i was back with my family! The facilites and rooms are basic but kept well. The tais market is just around the corner. The backpackers is just short walk to the beach and a few minutes by taxi to timor plaza... More

I stayed in this hostel for several days and liked it. Situated on the main street, walking distance to the sea, simply great choice. The staff is very helpful and you get free tea and coffee in the kitchen. Would recommed to everyone.

The only one backpacker option listed in Dili... and even though it is not really great, it is always full (backpackers stay there as well as some NGO interns). Not super clean (but acceptable) and it smelt cigarette in rooms. The common area is nice though and you can use the kitchen (coffee and tea are free but no breakfast).... More

This hostel is the cheapest in Dili but not good. There are three normal beds in the dorm, the other 6 (3 bunk beds) are not worth calling a bed. I probably sleep better on the floor. Also the staff is not helpful and friendly. I didn't feel welcome and was afraid to ask anything. If those two issues are... More

This is the only place you can stay for cheap in Dili (12$ a dorm bed, if dorm beds are all taken, ask them to put a matt on the floor for you - they'll charge 8$). Book in advance because they don't have many beds (only 2 or 3 rooms) and they are often full because aside from travelers,... More

Lovely owners! Not the cleanest but the dorm doesn't smell to bad and I sleep really well in there! My boyfriend and I share one of he single beds (not a bunk) and it is very comfortable and clean! Stayed here for 3 nights. Friendly vibe, good location to explore and beds are OK (Try get a single bed, not a bunk). Good AC, bar and rec areas. Showers average. Would stay again. Staff are friendly (speak good english too) and do their best to help backpackers out with tips. Single rooms available but didn't try this.

I stayed in Dili for 3 nights and always had an amazing time at the Backpacker. Dan is an amazing British man with the most interesting stores and even after only a few year running the joint he is the talk of town in Dili. His wife Rita is at reception from 8.30AM. Not only did she make me feel... More

“You can choose between single and double private rooms and the dorm with several beds. Note that there is one bathroom (three toilets, two showers) for everybody, men and women.”

“There are plenty of places to stay in Dili, but this is one of the cheapest and well worth your money. It has a great backpackers atmosphere and lovely staff. It attracts the adventurous types from young to old and from all over the globe. Rooms are much the same, but dorms are more chaotic and cheaper than the doubles.”
