We booked a room with a seaview for only one night, but after checking our room (with no seaview) and the gym, we cancelled our booking. The AC inside the room worth nothing, we couldn’t handle the hot temperature. We were also not satisfied with the cleanliness at all. The guy at the front desk was a bit strange, We are not sure he knows how to make the guests feel comfortable. If you like classical style and you don’t have high expectations, go ahead. But we don’t recommend this hotel at all. At least, it’s close to the beach.

Definitely the rating of this hotel to be 5-star is well beyond comprehension and honestly makes no sense today. Perhaps in the 60s-80s, it was but surely it lagged way behind this present moment. As part of our tour in Croatia, we stayed here for 1 night (thankfully only one night). On the outlook, the hotel looked nice in its pinkish colour that symbolizes romance and love and even inside the lobby, it looks classic, historic and vintage dating back to the good olden days, with a Mozart statue in the center. Maybe the owner then was a fan of Mozart? There's only one small vintage lift in the hotel and for the 20-over group of us, imagine how long it would take for us to bring our luggage to our rooms, scattering over 4 storeys? In fact, some of us, who stayed on the 2nd storey, had to manually bring their luggage via the flights of stairs as the wait for the lift was so long, not withholding there were other guests. Our room was 404, the highest and we were the last to make it among our group and took almost a good 20~30mins. While the room was spacious and nice, also pinkish in colour, with a great view on the sea through the balcony, it gave people a sense of "outdated". There was a fridge and a bathtub and bed was considered comfortable. On the negative aspect, the aircon was not working well. As it was over 35 degrees outside during the day, the weather was so warm even at night and the aircon, despite turning to the maximum, was not cold at all! Basically no air was blowing. The feeling was like "sauna" and we were sweating despite having a cold shower! Even when we tried to open the windows, there was little wind though as the night went by, it slightly got windier but we had a hard time turning in. At one time, we even thought of asking the staff for an extra table fan but we didn't since it would only be another 2-3 hours to go before our breakfast time and would leave for the day. But we went to the cafe to request for a bucket of ice to "cool down". There was no kettle or coffee/tea sachets or bottles of mineral water provided and wifi was quite unstable and got cut off from time to time. During our one night stay, we had our dinner (3 course meal) and breakfast (buffet style) at the cafe. While staff were generally friendly, service was extremely slow. Not being bias against older-aged workers, there was only one senior server at the cafe and imagined serving 20+ people at one time when she had to serve, cleared the plates and taking orders from other walk-in guests. It was later when another waitress came over to assist did speed up a little but still a long wait for our food to be served (during dinner). Breakfast was just normal, in fact, with quite limited spread, unlike what a 5-star hotel would serve its guests, more like a 2 or max, 3-star hotel. The food were also so-so, nothing to shout about. In fact, we didn't have much choices and thus didn't also eat much. The only good thing here was that besides the nice sea view, there was a supermarket located next to it, which you could grab some finger food or buy groceries or souvenirs here. Prices here were reasonable and some shops (including casino) were nearby and some makeshift ice cream and drink stalls were just opposite the road. So overall, it's way overly rated here as a 5-star hotel which in no area, the hotel has done well to deserve it. To be objective and fair, it should be a 2-3 star instead though some 3-star hotels we have stayed before did much better. And there are several and much better (and newer) hotels nearby and you will not lose out anything even if you don't stay here! And throughout all entire tour, this was the "worst" hotel we had resided and thankfully, it's just a one-night affair! Utterly disappointed.

Sad experience as we have been eyeing this hotel for years since it opened as the first five star old fashioned hotel in the then-awakening sleeping beauty Opatija. Looking nice on the outside, parking in a public garage well away, no vallet parking - nobody even at the door to take care of your luggage. Lousy reception, lousy check-out, reception staff on a low 3 star level. Outdated furniture (bed broke when I sat down on it), outdated TV, small and uncomfortable bathroom, terrible sound insulation of both external and internal walls. One single (nice) person doing it all for buffet breakfast, which is clearly reflected in tables' setup & cleaning; once the cheap sparkling wine bottle in the drinks section is empty, a new one somehow never comes; just one low level coffee machine, so queing is inevitable in rush hours. You can not ask for anything outside the buffet (e.g. omelette), one day even the scrambled eggs were offered in chafing dish completely burnt. All in all, a solid 3-star hotel level. The price vs. quality ratio is acceptable only during the out of season period. Obviously, the current owners (for more than a decade now) are using this as a pure cash cow due to excellent location and the five stars awarded long time ago. Sad.

They are claiming to have 5 stars which is a little awkward since I would give them maximum 3. Breakfast is terrible( burned scrambled eggs, limited offer of food, visual appearance of food) So definitely not even remotely close to 5*. However the hotel is dog friendly, and personell on the reception really makes the experience much better. The receptionist are warm and really kind, shame is that the quality of room and food does not follow. All rooms and dining place need a thorough renovation. Hotel is located on one of the best positions and it is a real waste that it is not actually a 5* but more of a 2-3 stars. The reason why they even have 5 stars is mainly because of the connections of owners with domicile politics which evaluate the quality of hotels, so they just gave them 5 stars. NOT A WAY TO MANIPULATE VISITORS AND TOURISTS.
