Detailed Reviews
We really liked this hotel, we had a lovely room (quite small) with a very small shower cubicle but it had a balcony looking out to sea. the cleaners came in everyday to replace towels etc. only soap supplied in bathroom and no kettle in the room, although you can hire one for 5euro for the week but you need to purchase your own Coffee/tea and milk (but there is no fridge)
The food was very good with lots of choices and half board included wine/beer. Jelena (restaurant) was our outstanding employee of the week during our stay. she was extremely friendly and engaging and worked very hard. We didn't use the hotel bar as it lacked some atmosphere (but the view is great) we also found one of barman was a bit abrupt one night when we asked for a glass of ice! but there are plenty of bars outside within easy walking distance. We got the bus to Reiki - only 30mins ride for 3euros. and we walked along the Lungomare to ICICI and IKA - about 5k one way and worth the trip.
We really enjoyed our stay in Opatija and would def recommend this Hotel.

We got welcomed by getting a wrong room and by rude staff, but the hotel made an apology for that. I don’t think the staff should treat guests with disrespect, especially when it comes to small things and misunderstandings. The staff should be nice to the guests no matter what. The hotel has a nice view and good food. And we had mostly a good experience. the hotel should make sure that its staff don’t have anger issues.

Good location, the room is clean, close to the center of Opatija, a nice walk along the sea. The food is good, for breakfast there should be more offers regarding salami, butter, jam and other spreads.
The pool is small, but it was not crowded. The recommendation is that it would be much better if you could see the sea from the pool, and not if it was dark because it gives a bad feeling.
Parking is expensive.

I am currently staying at the Smart Selection Hotel in Opatija and can honestly say it is the worst experience I have ever encountered.
1) Despite us having a long flight and headed up to check into the hotel at 1.55pm (check in is at 2pm) they refused to check us in and made us wait a few more minutes until the clock struck 2pm. Extremely rude staff, no customer service or value.
2) No mini fridge or safe in the room to be used (you have to pay extra to use the safe in reception)
3) Dirty swimming pool and tiny, not like the pictures at all.
4) Basic rooms, have been renovated but to a low standard.
5) You cannot buy drinks from the bar downstairs and bring them to your room which is ridiculous.
The staff are awful, if you are heading to Opatija I would recommend you pick a different hotel.

The hotel is located next to the promenade, which you can go directly to, and the hotel has direct access to the beach. First, they pleasantly surprised us at the hotel and put us in a room with a balcony and a view of the sea, even though we didn't book it. The room was tidy, the bed linen and towels were fragrant and clean. The bed, pillow and blanket are soft and comfortable, real hotel, for sleeping and resting. The room has a beautiful view of the coast and in the morning you can watch an unforgettable sunrise. Dinner and breakfast were varied, and with dinner you even get drinks (juices, water, wine, beer), which I have rarely experienced. The staff is helpful and friendly. The parking lot is right in front of the hotel. It is charged, but the price per day is no different than other hotels charge for their private parking (it even turned out to be much cheaper for us because we were not in the peak season). The hotel also has a swimming pool which people enjoyed as it was raining outside. I really have no complaints, in fact, I would go back. Maybe the food could be a little spicier, but I personally prefer when I can season myself according to my taste, while some things I don't like spicy at all (salad).

+1
If you are looking for expensive place to stay, skip this hotel - surrounding is full of pricy places that can offer you less or the same value as this one!
Nicely located, on the sea side, this cocktail of 19 century Austrian vacation place and early 20 century cosiness gives you sufficiently sized room for 5day stay next to Lungo mare with the food as good as in 4* neighboirs. After reaching sufficient walking mileage, there is even a small pool to recover.
All this with really great and polite service. The waiter who really nocked our breakfasts and dinners had Filip label on his chest!
I will definitely come back and hope that nothing will change!

I spent three days half board at Hotel Istra with my family in September. I thank Alex and his blonde colleague for the excellent directions and courtesy at check in/out. Spectacular location, international buffet and sea view room made our stay very pleasant. The rooms are equipped with every comfort and those on the street side are quiet and equipped with a mini fridge and safe. Pool small if too crowded but warm. I did not use the beach service. Parking nearby but I was aware of it and still found a solution in a side street. Excellent base for visiting Rijeka and Kirk Island. Thanks to all the staff.

Very good hotel. The welcome is very good, all the staff are smiling, pleasant and kind, especially with the children, a special mention for the super friendly and professional restaurant staff, our meals with our son were great thanks to you!
The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet. The hotel has a bar with a sea view terrace, a relaxation area, a heated indoor swimming pool, a large restaurant which offers very varied breakfasts and a self-service restaurant in the evening which is also very varied, the food is very good.
3-story hotel with elevator. The hotel has access to the sea with beach. There are also healthy activities on offer such as yoga, fitness, bike rental... No private parking, but a large number of places along the hotel (be careful, paid spaces, but with the application is very easy to manage)
We made our stay in April.
A children's park is located near the hotel, with small souvenir shops and ice cream shops. Several hikes are available departing from the hotel.
We recommend this hotel which has great value for money.
