The first hotel to be built along the Adriatic Coast in 1884, Hotel Kvarner Opatija is a historic property often seen as the standard for elegance and sophistication of hotels in Opatija. Some of the more memorable visions of Opatija are on the grounds of Hotel Kvarner. The Crystal Hall is an awesome architectural sight and the largest of its kind in Opatija. It is an ideal setting for personal events like weddings or business summits. The newly-renovated terrace, situated above the Lungomare promenade, is the perfect spot to hold your outdoor event with its offer of magnificent sea views. Villa Amalia is in Kvarner's immediate vicinity and villa guests can use all the amenities of the historic hotel, including the outdoor swimming pool and private beach. Close to the city's most famous landmarks, Hotel Kvarner offers excellent accommodation on the Opatija Riviera.

I’m a guest of this hotel , it’s now 21.05 and we are sitting her for approximately 25min! The restaurant service is totally overloaded and bad managed! We were not asked for 25 min if we would like to drink something, just ignored by busy waiters ! I never experienced this in any hotel or restaurant in this world!

The hotel, the terrace and the food were top notch, but the room we got was not in line with what we ordered - see photo. Superior Double or Twin Room, Sea View: The hotel offers a balcony and sea view as an upgrade, but if you get a room on the ground floor there is no sea view. You look straight into the trees and the dark area around the pool where people are sleeping. Don't pay extra for upgrades, there may be downgrades. If they promise to fix it for the next day, don't trust them. My given service rate are for the hotel management, not for the staff in restaurant and bar.

Very unfortunate for this beautiful building and place is the staff and running of this hotel. A prestigious hotel with so much to offer but becomes soulless by the staff. We had three rooms booked for 3 nights with a very unwelcome feel in reception, not warm at all. One member received the key to their room only opening it up to see a room that was not prepared, an unclean room from the previous guest, unmade bed, wine bottles tossed around, glasses strewn throughout the room (wish we would have thought to take photos but were to shocked, no guest should see that) head bands on the mirror....so on and so on. Once you see that, we’ll it’s not the room you want to be in. Back to the lobby only to be told, go for a ten minute walk and we will have it ready!!! Really! That’s it! Well that’s disgusting and upon check out all we had was blank faces. I felt really bad as it was my pick and we were really looking forward to it. Not impressed.

DO NOT USE THE TEA AND COFFEE IN THE ROOM. THEY CHARGE YOU EXTORTIONATE PRICES FOR THIS AT CHECK OUT - NO it is NOT clear that you will be charged for this, I wish I’d read the reviews on here first. I have never been to a hotel and been charged for tea and coffee facilities in the room - 15 kuna (£1.80) for a tea bag or a Nescafé sachet!!!! Considering they call themselves a “four star hotel” this lack of basic inclusion of services is very poor. They don’t even bother to leave you milk so after making rubbish coffee you better like it black! When we complained about the lack of information about this at checkout (genuine surprise when they said we owed them money, we thought there had been a mistake!) we were repeatedly told “this is hotel policy”. Would suggest management review this “policy” and stop being so tight. Your inflated prices are ridiculous! The whole thing put a real negative at the end of our stay, it’s penny pinching and unnecessary. House keeping was not great. Made the bed and cleaned the bathroom but left dirty cups in the room and didn’t tidy anything. Also asked house keeping for English breakfast or early grey tea bags as only left two fruit flavours in the room. By the time they eventuality delivered them to the room we didn’t have time to make tea. Reception then had the audacity to try to charge us for them on checkout. Breakfast was varied but I’ve had better buffet breakfasts. Ordered the french toast (with berries and syrup) which unfortunately didn’t come as advertised and instead was drenched in chocolate sauce. I love chocolate but this was not nice, you couldn’t taste the brioche. The next time I ordered them I asked for them as advertised on the menu, they came without berries or syrup *face palm*. Also ordered the poached eggs one morning but they didn’t taste very nice. On a positive note there was a nice inclusion of sparkling wine at breakfast. Good selection of teas, cheese, meats and breads. Coffee wasn’t bad. Good array of salads. We were in the room at the far end of the hotel near the church. We didn’t realise this until we tried to have an afternoon nap after our morning flight and the bells were persistently ringing. every. fifteen. minutes. There were no other rooms available as there was a wedding during our stay and rooms were full - we had asked at check-in. The ‘beach’ area near the sea was nice. The sea was clean. Would definitely look around before booking the same hotel again. Probably would stay elsewhere. If I did stay again I’d request a different room and I’d take my own tea bags. That being said it’s not an area I’m likely to return to, a few days was plenty and there’s other places to explore.

We've just returned from a wonderful week staying at this hotel and lived it up to everything the photographs promised. We had a seaview room on the 4th floor that was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated as well as having an amazing view of the bay and Rijeka in the distance. We had no issues at all with noise and the rooms had blackout curtains and quiet air-con. We ate at the hotel several times and the menu was varied and reasonably price. The food was delicious and the waiting staff were helpful, courteous and friendly (with very good English). Breakfast is served 7am to 10am and is one of the most varied hot and cold buffets I've ever seen in a hotel anywhere in the world. In addition to the buffet serveral items could be ordered to be cooked fresh. I would highly recommend the hotel and Opatija generally as a wonderful location for a short break or longer stay.

The hotel has its old charm while perfectly modernized. Staff is very friendly, room/suite is great. The pool are is nice with lots of shadowy area. The beach area with with the crystal clear water is perfect, although it would be nice if it could be expanded to make sure every hotel guest can have a sunbed if needed. Breakfast is one of the best i have ever had in a hotel with some really interesting specialties

Hotel good points: Lovely selection at breakfast including smoked salmon , eggs with truffles and a glass of fizz. Pool was always quiet. Bathing area had plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. Efficient lady who would remove towels from unoccupied beds after 2 hours. Waiting staff pleasant and attentive. The cleanliness of the rooms was excellent. In our 1st room we had a wonderful lady who not only kept our room spotlessly clean but every morning taught us a few Croatian phrases. So nice to be met with a smile everyday. She truly made our stay . Hotel’s not so good points: Our 1st room was large and comfortable. However, we asked to be moved because of the noise from not only the nightclub next door but the wedding that the hotel was catering for in the crystal ballroom. We did not mind moving rooms but unfortunately it took 3 days for this to happen. Day 1 (am) complained about the noise and told that they would see if we could be moved. Returned to the reception that evening and reiterated our request. Told to come back “late” the following day. Day 2 arrived “late” to be told we were expected earlier that day because they had a room for us. We asked our Rep to intervene . We were then told that we could move the following day and to come to reception by 12 midday. At 12 midday , all packed , we were informed the room would not be available until 2pm. So essentially 2 days wasted ! Lovely resort in which the hotel is perfectly situated. The park next door to the hotel was a nice place to sit and have a picnic lunch. Great promenade, turn left out of the hotel to walk to a lovely little harbour about 40 mins walk.

Location is great Staff in the restaurant and bar are slow and less attentive too bad as I remember this hotel many years ago and it was great I also find it weird that the access to the beach is available to external guests - which is great for the hotel to get extra money but if you are a guest of the hotel you expect to find space available at the beach of the hotel - in both stays there were no available chairs The pool needs some work done too and to be cleaned from time to time The front desk team is caring though especially Alan - Alan was the reason we gave another try to the hotel

Our experience at the hotel was jaded by the rudeness we experienced at checkin. This followed with being lied to by the staff. Coincidently we were not alone. Each time I went to reception there was another guest there complaining. To their credit they eventually apologised (after I asked if they planned to apologise) and offered a modest discount. However money can not replace days of holiday spoilt. The location is ok. Beautiful out look. Great walking track in either direction along the coast. Ease access to swim in the sea. Downside is the night club next door with thumping music until the early hours. The property is run down and in need of refurbishment. The floor in our room was lifting due to water damage. There were large patches in plaster. Mould in the bathroom. The shower leaked and we had to use the towels to mop water all over the floor. Breakfast was below average. Poor quality produce. The staff at breakfast were poor, every morning after waiting 15 minutes I would have to get up, find someone and ask for coffee, this would be met with a blank stare. The hours for breakfast were limited an inconvenient 8-10am. In our room there was a kettle and tea bags and cheap coffee sachets. At check out we were amused that we were charged for the tea bags (despite them not being able to provide black tea after numerous requests we resorted to fruit tea) and Nescafé sachets. There was no notice to say that we would be charged. Do not recommend.

The hotel is a beautiful building of a by gone era . It’s perfectly situated with stunning views of sea. Inside areas are lovely and fresh stunning flowers adorn most areas. Room was great, large comfy bed and fab pillows. Disappointed that we did not have a balcony, it’s worth paying extra for one . Breakfast was delicious, buffet and menu breakfast available, seating outside was lovely too. The only negative is the night club next door , first night we heard thumping music all night , we did complain at reception and was told that it was just Saturday night that the music is loud. That was true so was happy to get good nights sleep thereafter. Hotel is situated in a beautiful town. Loads of amazing restaurants nearby . Do walk into nearby harbour. lol area was nice , pool looked bigger in hotel pics , was was still lovely. Loved the sun deck area by the sea. All well looked after . There were a few Bali beds , people got up ridiculously early to bag one , but you could only reserve a bed for two hours after that your towel is removed , which was great as we then managed to get the luxury Bali bed !! All in all a lovely place to spend a weeks holiday.
