Tropicana Atlantic City garners mixed reviews, with guests praising its variety of amenities and prime boardwalk location, yet often criticizing the outdated and unclean rooms. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere and entertainment options are a hit, but noise levels can be disruptive. Service concerns, such as lengthy check-in times and inattentive staff, frequently mar the experience. While some visitors find the value acceptable, others are disappointed by hidden fees and the overall lack of cleanliness and maintenance.

My stay at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City was a comfortable blend of work and leisure, thanks to the amenities and convenient location. Staying in a Havana Deluxe King Room, I enjoyed good Wi-Fi, a spacious in-room desk, and ample plugs—perfect for remote work. The serene atmosphere, expansive city views with a partial ocean view, and proximity to the boardwalk made breaks delightful. Plus, the convenient layout near self-parking, check-in kiosks, and dining options added to the ease of the experience.

On the other hand, the room could use a few upgrades: brighter lighting, hooks for bathrobes and shower caps, a microwave, and shower gel dispensers. Housekeeping was unavailable after 4 p.m., which may not suit all schedules. Still, with its pleasant decor and "one-stop shop" amenities, the Tropicana proved to be a good choice for both work and play.

Stayed in a bi level suite in the North Tower. Terrific floor to ceiling window view facing the South West shoreline but window and ledges could use a cleaning. Patio door is screwed shut so no outdoor access. No pull out couch for guest but we requested a blanket and extra pillow. Couch was comfortable. Rooms were clean but decor was outdated. Master bathroom shower entrance is a bit akward, its a real chalkenge setting the water temp because you can not avoid the water coming out of th shower head. Flat screen LG TVs were too small for the room sizes especially the main lower level living room which also had poor reception. Had to set screen to zoom to get a decent picture.( Took some time to figure out the settings on the remote) Housekeeping and Room Service were excellent. Ordered omlettes from the Chelsea Gastro Pub and they were very good. Best meal was dinner at il Verdis.. ocean front seating, great service and the best Italian food in AC. Table games were fun and the dealers were quick and accurate. Poker slots were a bit tight but the bar service and wait staff made up for the stingy payouts. Valet and Bell Captains were courteous and respectful. Shops and Restraunt choices were plentiful in the Quarter. Carmine's is a good choice for affordable family dining. Overall we enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next getaway.

Friends of ours had a birthday party which started at the Little Water Distillery and ended at Boogie Nights (Tropicana night club). We all stayed here one day/one night.

The Priceline deal was $65/night but the tourist fees and taxes make it closer to $100, which is still a decent price for a room in a AC casino hotel. Of course hotel parking was not included so add another $20 night ($15 w/ $5 coupon). On a Saturday, the deck filled up quickly (10 levels) and we found a spot on level 9. There was a line waiting for the parking deck elevators to get down to the lobby/casino floor and it took ~5 minutes to finally get inside. The check-in front desk staff was friendly and helpful and they have kiosks available if the line at the desk gets too long. I did not try the kiosk so I don't know how well they work.

The hotel is dated and constantly smelled of cigarette smoke and weed. From the open lobby, you take the escalator down and you're in the main food/club/casino area. Unfortunately the 'down escalator' was broken and the staff was directing people to the elevators. To get to our room, there are four elevators and one was broken as well. The elevators are very slow and you typically have to wait in lines of 20-30 people.

Our King room was large and sparse, with a small LCD TV on the wall. There was a small fridge as well. The AC/Heat system looked ancient and we had to call the front desk to find out how to access the thermostat (behind a metal plate that's not obvious how to access). The bathroom was large as well but there were 'hairs' on the floor that were missed in the previous clean up. The bed was comfortable.

The Trop has many good food choices, such as Carmines. The Boogie Nights club was a fun experience as well.

The real negative was the long elevator wait times, broken elevator and the broken escalator. As we were leaving on Sunday, they was letting people walk down the broken escalator, and it's a long one! Also having to pay to park in the hotel parking lot never sits well with me.

I would try one of the other AC hotels before I stayed at the Trop again.

We stayed at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, looking forward to a relaxing break. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, thanks to the self-service machines on the 2nd floor, which made things much easier than heading to the lobby. After arriving at our room on the 15th floor, an Executive room we had reserved, we were initially pleased with the spaciousness and great views of the ocean and city. However, we encountered a strong odor of cigarette smoke and marijuana at the front door and around the connecting door.
To address this, we reached out to the hotel through their text service, Ivy, which was impressively responsive. Within just a few minutes of messaging, we received a prompt reply, and staff came to deodorize the room. Unfortunately, the lingering smell remained because of smoking from the neighboring room. When I spoke with a young woman at the front desk, she kindly offered to move us to another room; however, it was a downgrade and located in a different tower, making it less convenient. We decided to manage the odor with our air freshener instead.
The hotel does have a movie theater, which is unique though it only shows one film at a time, and there are plenty of restaurant dining options available.
The following morning, I woke up with some irritating bumps on my back and thigh, which prompted me to inspect the bed. While I didn't find anything then, I noted that the refrigerator in our room stopped working on the second day, which led to us needing to discard some snacks we’d purchased. Additionally, the television only provided about 7 channels from the 20 listed, with most of them being news channels and only one other option, MyPhilly. After reporting the issue, an engineer came to investigate and informed us that it was a known issue affecting multiple guests, which the hotel had been aware of for weeks.
I want to commend the staff for their consistent responsiveness and courtesy, even when they couldn't resolve our concerns. We even found a bug in the bed, leading to the bumps and itching we experienced. We reported this to the front desk and provided the bug in a plastic bag for examination. The staff member who assisted us was polite, though he seemed to question our claims. He did take the resort fee off for that night and assured us that the room would be put out of service.
Overall, we were really just looking for a peaceful escape for a few days without disruptions like these. It's important for hotels to investigate and address such issues promptly to ensure the comfort of all guests moving forward. A focus on resolving these matters can greatly enhance the guest experience and maintain the high standards expected at such a venue.

We’ve stayed at the Tropicana at least five times in the past, but not since 2019. All of our other stays there were wonderful. We went to Atlantic City this past weekend to see the John Fogerty concert at Caesar’s but stayed at the Tropicana because we always had positive experiences there. Well, it is no longer a place that we would ever go back to. The first problem is that they have only a few people working the desk to check people in. The wait to check in is more than an hour. They do have kiosks for checking in but those can not be used for third party bookings and they do not recognize some states driver’s licenses as ID’s. After spending all of that time to get a room we open the door to our room, and our “non-smoking “ room stinks of cigarettes. A call to the desk and they say the only way to change the room is to go back to the lobby and wait on the hour long line again! By the way since there are several towers but only one lobby for check in we had to drag our luggage all the way back to the only location for check in. Are you kidding me. Well, fortunately we went back to the desk and somehow found a manager. The manager first said there are no other rooms and that the maintenance men would spray deodorizer in the room. When we argued that would not be acceptable she said they had a room for $100 more per night. When we again said that we shouldn’t have to pay more because our non smoking room reeked of smoke, she “found” a room for only $40 dollars more. Then she said she could give us a $40 meal voucher to offset the increase which would be good at any restaurant on the property. The new room in the Havana tower was OK at best. The bathroom actually had paint peeling off the ceiling! But, otherwise it was not too bad. We went to have dinner at PF Changs - which is right in the Tropicana and found that they would not accept the credit we were given for the room switch! The self parking garage is dirty and a bit scary. Even the elevator doors in the hotel are filthy and look like they have not been cleaned in years! So, as you can see there is nothing good about staying at this hotel. What a difference a few years make. I made the mistake of not believing all of the other bad reviews for this place based on our prior stays there. But, it was the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had and we’ve traveled a lot all over the country. The workers know that customers are being treated very badly because when people complain they just stand there because there is nothing they can do about it. All I can say is don’t make the mistake we did and find somewhere else to stay. Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation.

Most disgusting and nastiest hotel I’ve ever stayed. I’ve stayed at the Hilton for a cheaper price and had a better room and experience. First of all, I paid $700+ for a three night stay, room was located in the Chelsea tower. So nothing cheap but I received a low quality room and overall awful experience. If it wasn’t for the fact that I was with family I would’ve cut my trip short and went home. The minute you come into the Chelsea towers it has a pungent smell. The smell literally punches you in the face. The hallway and room smells like sewage. I had to let the shower water run for a couple minutes before hopping in to make sure feces wasn’t coming from the faucet. The wallpaper is outdated and there are weird stains on the carpet as if they’ve been there for years!!!!! The shower handle broke off when I tried to take a shower. The door chain fell off when I tried to use it for my safety!!! Do you know how unsafe that is for solo and women travelers?!?! I had to put a chair in front of the door to make sure I’m safe. The housekeeping staff doesn’t even want to clean, had the nerve to ask me “when am I leaving?” I had to ask for toilet paper and facial tissue and she ignored my request for facial tissue and only gave me one roll of toilet paper. Never had the room cleaned, beds spread, or garbage changed. Had to beg a worker outside for extra clean towels and rags and thankfully he was nice enough to give them to me. The body wash was half full when I came here and they never came to replace it. The lamp light has shorts and won’t turn on. The tv doesn’t turn on but the remote lights up like a Christmas tree, how wonderful. There’s no ironing board, just a cheap old iron. I’ve never counted down the days while on vacation until I went home until I stayed at this hotel. I will never stay here again. Never wanted to leave a place so bad. I got nothing out of coming here. I will make sure I spend extra for a nicer hotel than coming to this cheap dump.

I am not satisfied with the response because the room was disgusting. Yes they upgraded me to a suite but it was dirty. the bed sheets had yellow stains. On Sunday I left the hotel at 11am and returned back at 430pm and came to the room dirty the same way it was left. Housekeeping didn’t come to our room and when I asked for someone to come they stated that their housekeeping time was over and they can’t come but if needed towels they will bring them. Once someone arrived with the towels she only made the bed with the same stained sheets didn’t bother in changing them and just took the garbage of the bathroom out only. The rest of the garbage was not even bothered in taking out. Not only was I charged for the service fees of the upgraded dirty room for a service I never had but I had to stay in a room I did not book because like I stated before they gave my room away to someone else. But I got stuck with paying more for their mistake. I would like my refund because I will not be taking any credits from this place. I most definitely will not return back to this hotel and will make sure if I know anyone thinking about going to Tropicana I will advise them not to. Customer service was disgusting just like the room was. I paid a service to get trash in exchange basically.

The most memorable part of my trip was the 4 hours it took to get a working iron for my room. The iron that came with the room ended up staining a shirt because of an unseen substance on the metal portion of the iron. When I called about replacing the iron, a delivery man brought up an iron that was defective. When plugged in it shot sparks from where the wiring connected into the iron and smelled like an engine block that was about to catch fire.

So I went through the process of calling for a replacement. As each hour passed I called again, this was a Tuesday morning, so it's not like a weekend where the casino is packed. And nothing. I called the help line and the Caesars Call Center employee told me to go down to the front desk so I would be seen and had to be heard. I did that.

After waiting in line at the front desk I had this misfortune of having Barbara. After explaining to her it had been 4 hours her response was "Have you signed up for our electronic concierge IVY, it's so much faster." Then she tried to shoo me way. I refused, restated that it had been 4 hours and I wanted a human being with the capacity for empathy to come up to my room and stand behind an iron shooting off 3 inch sparks and smelling like an engine fire. Barbara looked at me with a vacant soulless gaze before getting on a phone. As she repeated to her supervisor everything I said it dawned on her the lack of customer service on her part and she became a last second advocate because someone further up the corporate food chain was going to become involved.

So 30 minutes later after finishing up with Barbara the supervisor for housekeeping showed up with a new functioning iron for the room. I showed her how the other one shot sparks and she was genuinely shocked, empathetic and identified the customer service breakdown with the front desk who had someone from delivery and not housekeeping initially deal with the problem. The iron he brought was not meant to be in service and she had no idea where it came from.

It's really a shame because between the Boogie Nights Dance club, Karaoke with the excellent bartender Bob, the giant milkshake at Burger Barn and the comedy show at Kiss Kiss. Tropicana could be a fun place to go to, just not stay.

As for the casino floor, if you like blackjack or Spanish 21 you will always find a table. Not so much for craps, pai-gow poker, 3 card poker or other games. All of which had one open table that was crowded at all hours. Other Caesars properties in AC have more than one table running, especially Harrahs.

So by all means drop by the Tropicana for the entertainment venues. Just don't stay there, and if you do make sure you are really tired before you go to bed, because those pillows will do you no favors.

We originally booked at another hotel and last minute switched to the Tropicana for being "family friendly", two kid friendly pools, and convenient to the boardwalk/beach. I was hesitant based on reading other reviews, but hoped others were over exaggerating with their negative experience. It WAS convenient for the boardwalk/beach, but that was it.

Upon entering our room for the first night, it was filthy. Garbage from previous guests was just swept into the corners. The room was full of dust. The floor was filthy. There was hairballs and nail clippings. The lights were old and flicker several time before turning on. The water was hot, or scalding hot.

Upon many attempts the get the room cleaned, I was continually ignored. Each time I was told cleaning services were limited, and it was guaranteed that our room could get cleaned each day. Mind you, it was dirty before we even arrived. That's all that I wanted/needed cleaned. We could clean any mess we made after.

The pools were important, as we had brought out children. The hours posted for the outdoor pool were 10-6 and when we arrived at 10:56, it was still closed with no estimated time that they would open.

I've reached out to the hotel staff, and with no ability to do anything, was directed to another phone number and/or email for customer relations. No response to email. After 45 minutes on hold with customer relations, I was given a $50 credit toward food at the hotel.

And now, on day 3, there was water main break in my tower and we need to switch rooms, to add to the inconvenience of this entire trip. Currently waiting in line, going g on 45 minutes, in the middle of my day to have to get new room keys, pack everything up, and switch rooms.

Bed was done well room was cleaned well but check in process was deplorable the blind leading the blind blonde haired front desk manager very nasty and rude when expressed can I have the resort fee removed due to having a long wait in line where it’s only three agents working on a busy weekend. She informed me that she couldn’t remove the fee. Room type that I booked was not available so they gave me a room that wasn’t what I purchase saying it was the same price very bad experience and as a manager talking to another manager I would hope that she could have helped I didn’t ask for my money back the least she could have done is removed the resort fee before process due to all of these issues

Is Carmine's Italian Restaurant located inside the Tropicana?
Answer from Mary R
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania1,273 contribution65 helpful votes
Yes, the hotel is composed of a number of distinct towers all connected together by a huge indoor mall complex called the Quarter. Carmine's is actually located on the bottom floor near the West Tower and the Havana Tower. Remember the restaurant features large portions designed for a group reservation. Have a wonderful time!
