In booking this property, there was quite a bit of confusion. Hopefully, I can clear this up. The property is Finca Barlovento – a large farm area which houses a few hotels. We stayed at the Maloka Barlovento. There is also Casa Tayrona which is next-door and another property which we first went to by mistake. The Maloka Barlovento is a beautiful property right on the beach. The waves here are a bit rough but you can swim if careful. There are no lifeguards. There are different types of rooms here. We were in room four and seven of the main building. Room four is very dark with no light. Room seven was much brighter. This property, as you’ve read, has no hot water. Don’t be fooled that you won’t care about this because of the heat. For an Eco hotel it wouldn’t take much to put in solar heating. I dreaded taking cold showers even after hiking in this park. That being said - I think the draw of the hotel is the proximity to the park. It was kind of difficult to get proper information about going there for hikes and for the day. We had to wing it a bit. As for the food, it is adequate but not very delicious. Casa Tayrona next-door has much better food. And there is a nice shared bar area where you can get tacos and drinks, which was great.…
My wife and I stayed here for four nights to relax after hiking to the Lost City. This hotel is in a gorgeous spot, overlooking the ocean, river, and mountains. We spent our days beaching and reading and enjoyed every minute. Our room (#1) was on the corner so we had some privacy as well as breezes from and views in two directions. I give it five stars even though it comes with a few quirks. Our room was comfortable but there was no a/c nor hot water. The a/c we didn’t miss at all because of the breezes and ceiling fan and the water in the shower was not at all cold. Breakfasts (included) and dinners were delicious, but we ran through the menu in our four nights and would have appreciated some lighter choices for lunches (tip: split an entree for lunch). It was also confusing as to whether it was best to ask for a paper menu or order using their app. Finally, you can charge meals, beer, and wine to your room, but mixed drinks and massages must be paid for separately.…
First off, yes, it's a very good place to stay and I echo the positives that have already been mentioned so I won't bother to do so. We had a good time there for three nights but - We had booked via Booking.com and even had replies from the hotel with information and had arranged a transfer with them from Barranquilla. But when we arrived they said they had no booking for us. We pointed out they had been in communication with us but were told they were automated replies with the information and regarding the transportation, they arranged the transfer but didn't check we did have a booking. An arrangement was come to on the spot with them as they said they were full but it may be best that if not booking directly with them, to contact them by phone or their own email to confirm you do have a booking there.…
Great location, 3 minutes from the beach, although it's not a beach where you lay down and have cocktails, the river discharges a lot of biomass and silt and leaves it on the beaches. Regardless, it's wonderful to walk on and be there and enjoy the scenery. I knew what I was getting into having read the reviews, for example no hot water, so I was prepared. Staff is wonderful, food and bevarege quite good. It would have been great if the pool also had the same view as the deck where you view the river and the ocean. I also didn't like that the doors of the the room were basically just window screen, and that the walls are a bit thin, so you can't be too loud. All in all, a very nice stay with a lot of character.
The place is spectacular. Outstanding food and great service. The chef is really good and he strives to satisfy your palate. The staff is really kind. Every thing was perfect. The nature, and all the surrondings are taken in good care.
An amazing place to escape the restrictions elsewhere in the region Simply put it, our stay was perfect. This is the place to escape the COVID-19 restrictions elsewhere this time of the year in Santa Marta. However, we would return to the hotel even when there is no restrictions. It is located in the place of extraordinary beauty, which is important for people like us who value an opportunity to stay in close contact with nature. Besides, the service is of the highest standards possible. All the personnel is making an extra step to satisfy your needs: the chef is making your favorite dishes which are not in menu, the cleaning is spotless, the exclusive pool is set next to the river and looking into ocean, the beach is your own, with other people are those staying in you hotel only. In addition, the design of the hotel is inviting to relax and enjoy the stay in the way, which is rarely found in Colombia, known for its love to loud fiestas 24/7. In other words, if you are looking for rumba and fiesta, this is not the place for you. Otherwise, you will never say sorry that you have chosen this place to spend your vacations.…
We stayed here for four nights in the Maloka Suites and cannot rate this place highly enough. First our room was excellent, spacious, well decked out, with a large bathroom. It has S/C and two beds, a little patio, and access to a semi private pool, just for these 4 rooms. The views are lovely, over the lagoon and ocean in the distance. There is another circular pool that is available to all, higher up, and also lots of green areas where we would sit with our kids. There is a restaurant and bar, with excellent service and the Chefs are really Osgood- the food is first rate, and delicious. It is really nice to sit on the deck at sunset having a cocktail, drinking in the colours - sunsets here are some of the best we have seen. The owners have paid special attention to the selection of staff. They were such k has fruits, eggs , areas, yoghurt, caijaja, hot chocolate etc. You will not need lunch after this. Highly recommended, and we will be back.…
Stayed 2 nights in the cabana # 2 and 2 nights in Maloka #1. Both very different but both excellent. The cabana is an amazing experience. From Cabana #2 you need to walk down 13 steps to get to your private bathroom. The room itself is small but has everything you need. Listening to the waves crash was actually quite soothing. Waking up in the morning and seeing the surfers was amazing. Our first night they set up a private birthday dinner for my girlfriend, very impressive with balloons roses and rose petals everywhere. Watching the sunset into the mountains while sitting beside the river will be a memory i will never forget. Maloka is a full room with a very big bathroom. The views from here were spectacular but in a different way. The only thing missing in the Maloka rooms is a small refrigerator. If you are going to stay in Maloka get room # 1, 2 or 3, #1 in my opinion is best. The Sierra Bar was a chill spot to finish the day/evening. The bartenders are all super friendly as is the whole staff. Little secret, the bar serves great mexican street tacos, 4 tacos for 20,000 ($6). Treat yourself and stay at this wonderful property.…
This was the most beautiful place to stay. We stayed in an ocean view room for five nights and loved it. The room was clean, and sleeping with the fresh air blowing in and the sound of the waves can’t be beat, followed by waking up to the view of the river and ocean...wow. The restaurant took excellent care of us as I have several food allergies. The chef went out of his way to chat with me and created meals that fit my needs. I have never been treated better at a restaurant!!! That chef deserves a raise. The pool area was a tranquil treat surrounded by trees and a chatty macaw. The beach was only a few steps away with no one but hotel guests and a few local fisherman. It felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves most of the times we went. They also have a spa on premises, a bar, and can arrange transportation to the park for you. We will definitely go back!…
The lodge was perfect. The rooms were spacious and clean. The pool area was just lovely. The food was great, and it was nice to chat to others over dinner. It was easy to get to the national park from there.
