Chic boutique hotel in the heart of Santa Marta. Quotes by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and others on the walls. Gorgeous interior with cute rooms! Small rooftop pool with Cathedral views. Tasty breakfast included!

I stayed at Casa del Farol during a three week flashpacking trip through Colombia. The hotel served mainly as a camp for a trip to Tayrona and that it did very well. Location: The hotel is just a street away from the restaurant and bar zone of Santa Marta which comes handy for dinner and drinks but not so much for a good nights sleep. At least at the top room floor (which is quite exposed) music from neighbouring bars was very loud till around midnight. Room came with a nice private terrace though and was great throughout. Spacious, very large bed, modern bathroom (hot water) and tastefully decorated. Staff was very nice – this was the only place in Colombia where even German was spoken. Breakfast also way above standard for a hotel of this price with lota of choices. While the hotel seems to tick all the boxes and I would totally recommend staying here, it still feels as if it‘s not in its best times right now. The property could profit a lot from more attention to detail and some refurbishments in the public spaces (rooftop, pool, breakfast area). The restaurant downstairs will surely breath some life into the property once re-opened. Still, thumbs up for Casa Farol!

I agree with reviewer Bacifi on certain points. The hotel is in a very convenient position within a level walk of the beach and all amenities. After staying in four hotels prior to La Casa it was evident, in comparison, it required some attention to detail and tidying. We didn't use our balcony as it was a pigeon roost with the resultant mess. Then small matters such as a rusty vanity mirror and unstable toilet seat. Conversely the room was a good size and clean but like the rest of the hotel could do with a good rub down and a lick of paint. There is no restaurant or bar. Breakfast was adequate with good service. However after previous hotels we were surprised we had to pay for an additional glass of juice, and for example a bowl of fruit was chargeable if you chose the main course. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would we go back? Possibly due to the location, but it is a bit tired and needs to up its game at breakfast time.

We stayed in the Beijing room, all rooms decorated representing cities around the world. Recently renovated, lovely bathroom.Located close to the major plaza and the cathedral. Good breakfast in the lovely courtyard. Good staff, very friendly and helpful. Lots of tourists, mostly Colombians I think. Dinner on the square but lots of beggars and people trying to sell stuff. Some Venezuelans trying to sell things -we saw lots of Venezuelans throughout the country, many walking along main roads carrying babies, children and their belongings - very sad. Our second day we were driven up to Minca in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Tayrona was closed for February. Saw the Marinka Waterful and visited La Victoria coffee plantation which was very interesting. Back to our lovely hotel Casa del Farol.
