Valet service option was wonderful on arrival, the cost was a bit higher than I expected though at $60-90/vehicle. We only stayed for one night. Checked in and was given a card room key, found our room and couldn’t get in. Went back downstairs and the same woman at the desk asked if we were ok having a hard key instead since that is what that room required. I should have been given the correct key the first time, how do you not know which type of key the rooms use? Went back upstairs and struggled to unlock the door, the lock was very finicky. The door and the lock were both very loose, did not make me feel overly secure. Walked into the room and loved that it was a corner room with 2 windows but it smelled musty and had clearly not been updated in awhile. The lighting in the bathroom was awful, very dim lighting and no fan or ventilation for showering. There was no microwave and a small old fridge on the floor (see photos). The king sized bed was firm but overall decent for sleeping. Pillows were not lumpy but were inconsistent in size. Lighting on each side of the bed was different (see photo). Curtains were difficult to close at bedtime, one of them stayed partially open unfortunately, they clearly need to be replaced (see photos). We noticed a hair extension left behind on the floor under the edge of the bed so clearly the room was not cleaned well between uses, we got a good laugh about it but truly were absolutely disgusted realizing how poorly the room was cleaned prior to use. Checkout was easy and fast considering we had to wait in line while other people were trying to get an early checkin at 11am. The location of the hotel was nice and the convenience of valet parking was nice but not worth the money we spent. We plan to return to the Asbury Park area in the future but we have already researched other hotel options.

My wife and I stayed here for our one year wedding anniversary. The staff was very kind and accommodating. We booked an ocean view room and when we checked in, the room we were provided did not have an ocean view. However, we spoke to the staff at the front desk and they rebooked us a room with a beautiful ocean view and the convention building with no issues or hassle. I hate being this person but I will say the rooms are a bit outdated and old. Some things were visibly falling apart. However, last year, in June of 2023, my wife and I got married in Asbury Park and a lot of our friends and family stayed here as it was the more affordable hotel option. I will say, they allowed us to throw an after party after our wedding in the downstairs bar/restaurant with their bartender and even allowed our DJ to hook up some of his equipment so we could continue dancing and drinking and partying. They did not have to do that and yet they did and we kept the party going till like 2am. So while it may be an older hotel, it is an Asbury Park staple and it was really nice to stay here and celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The pool area is also really beautiful and relaxing.

The Hotel was mostly pleasant and maintained though you could see it has been around for a while. They, like many hotels, have a daily resort fee and parking is $50 per day.
The hallways to the rooms were dimly lit with tiny spotlights, like in some sci-fi movie. Coupled with the choice of dark brown, black, and gold for carpeting didn’t convey a friendly fun atmosphere.
They have an on prem restaurant which we decided to give a try. It’s an Italian themed venue. The waitress was very good, and the tomato sauce /gravy was fantastic! But they did not have their S#7t together.
We ordered 2 glasses of a “House” cabernet that took 25 minutes to arrive at the table. 25 mins?? The waitress explained they were out of that and had to run out to the store and purchase some. Again… huh??
After the appetizers we waited another 35 min for our simple order or chicken parmesan. We were told that they forgot to put our order into the kitchen. The chicken was burnt, and they also had used very thin cut cutlets which had turned to leather. Now we were told they had a new chef who was not up to speed. Again… Huh??
When we got check(s) we were present with a separate one from the bar for the wine. $14 per glass for “House” cab. The bill said it was Josh Cellars Reserve. “House cab”??
So Hotel is OK, …. The restaurant…. Not at all.

The hotel mezzanine was beautiful, if a bit underutilized. The pingpong and billiards table was nice to see activity in the lobby, but it got a bit rowdy with the late night crowd. The valet service is understandably a bit pricey$50-70 for being beachside. However, after I told the valet staff my ticket number, he said he would go to get the car. Half an hour later, I checked to see the progress and delay, and another valet staff member said the ticket was never processed. He quickly got the car but the delay was inconvenient.

Beautiful hotel front and location. In house pizza bar and cafe open late hours is nice. Everybody comments on the dated interior, but it has considerable charm. The rooms could use stock mini fridges/microwaves/coffee machines. And the windows for ocean view rooms are locked, so if condensation builds up from the humidity, you cannot unfortunately open the windows. So the ocean view becomes wasted.

Nearly $600 for a room that was surface clean (don't look in corners or edges!) and NO AC in August!
Room was 83 degrees and crazy humid at 1AM - finally repaired in early morning hours- I get it stuff can break but no offer of comping a breakfast or an even small discount - nope- actually had a bit of an attitude that I told the desk it wasn't a good stay- Found out had been broken a couple of days - we weren't contacted with the option to cancel or even bring a fan! Didn't know until we called down to desk at 9PM- good location but way overpriced- azure restaurant was decent

**This is an updated review**

We stayed here while attending a wedding. The price was decent compared to others in the area. The hotel is quite old and includes the Johnny Cash Suite . The downstairs entrance and areas has a retro feel which is fun. The hotel room also had a retro feel including the old phone. I do think though that our room could have used some love…carpet fix to name one. I was not thrilled that they only allow heat to be in the rooms and ours was a balmy 75 degrees. The maintenance man opened our window which worked-made the room quite comfortable. The hotel is right across the street from the boardwalk, beach and restaurants; you can also easily walk to the town of Asbury as well. At first I gave this location 1 star because…there was a large group and basically they took over the place…up all hours of the night and very loud…very loud- not sure why the desk clerk or the adults of the group did not do anything about it. I called the hotel Monday and discussed how disruptive they were and about the screaming in the hall way. I was pleasantly surprised that the director of the hotel gave a gesture of apology which I much appreciated.

We wouldn’t stay here again. Clean room, comfy bed, but this place lacks simple conveniences that make a stay enjoyable, starting with a sign telling you where to pull in to the hotel entrance. With many one way streets it may take a few trips around to get to the front entrance. Bathroom had one tiny bar to hang towels, room needed several more outlets, and had no hotel orientation materials. We had to guess where to find the pool, cafe, etc. and what times these amenities were available. My husband had to opt for a vending machine after 9 on a Sunday night to get a snack, foregoing the coffee he wanted. Antiquated vending machine didn’t take credit cards, and the front desk was cashless when he tried to get singles for the vending machine. Good thing the valet had singles to help him out. Maid was outside our door, we both individually greeted her and got absolutely no response whatsoever. Our room was not serviced as I had indicated I desired upon check in. A call to the desk did get us fresh towels and toiletries. Elevators were readily available and fast. Some small tweaks could make this place better, but as of now it may cost you a bit more to stay elsewhere, but it would be worth it. We were in town for a wedding and this location allowed us to walk to the wedding venue.

First time at this hotel. We frequent Asbury a good 15 or more times a year for many years now. The bad reviews made me pretty skeptical of our stay at this hotel. First off vallet parking for my jeep cheorkee (not a grand) was 65.00 per day. We paid for ocean view and got a view of the street. We are told we will have an adjustment on our bill but got no resolve at checkout, just a simple oh maybe we will waive your parking fees. We paid close to 1000.00 for two nights a Sunday, Monday. The hotel was clean.
the pool area was nice, but the water was dirty and the pool liner was falling apart, and we walked on plastic glasses at the bottom of the pool. Pool staff was nice and friendly. The outdoor landscaping is beautifully maintained. It is a relaxing experience at the pool just not 100% up to snuff with the fees they are charging.

The room: nice and spacious, comfy firm beds and plenty of pillows. No actual sheet on the bed but the linens were comfy. The toilet is super small. Like small for elementary school kiddos. And not one wash cloth in the entire place. We asked several times. I mean at 500.00 a night plus resort fees..a wash cloth or two would be nice. The room was really quiet at night time. There is no coffee maker or fridge in the room. Not really a big deal for us, but again you get a similar room with breakfast, fridge and coffee at the IHG or Courtyard for half the price.

My daughter and I took a stroll around the ballrooms. They are beautiful and definitely seem like a beautiful spot for a wedding.

Lastly it is a pet friendly hotel. I have no idea if they have designated rooms for pets but I feel like the customer should be told if they are in a room that had pets previously, some people do have terrible allergies and this should be discussed with the customer upon check in.

Overall we enjoyed the stay, staff was friendly, just some minor observations and wanted to point out our experiences since we read so many negative reviews. We would definitely go back and pack some extra wash cloths.

And of course the added bonus is

being a step away from the ocean.

I just hope that the management reviews these so they can make some changes where needed.

My husband and I just came back from 3 nights at the Berkeley. I have been here a few times over the past 10 years. Overall given the deal we got (3 nights during week, get one night free) you can’t beat that deal. Yes I get that it’s older and needs some upgrades and fixing but even so it was a great deal and 40% cheaper than The Ocean and Asbury. Also we are big travelers and have been to 30+ countries together and I travel for work so I do have certain expectations.

First, you can’t beat the location on ocean block! We walked 1 minute in the am to the asbury roastery in the convention center every am for iced coffee and enjoyed either on boardwalk bench or in the hotel garden area.

Second, staff were so lovely and friendly. Special shout out to The ladies at the front walk: Shaquela (Worked day, had glasses and brown shoulder length hair) and Ashanti (worked evenings and had very short hair). They were so friendly and welcoming! Also shorter gentleman who works in housekeeping.

The pool is a nice bonus. They have lots of chairs and the staff are very attentive and provide drink service anywhere. Had fun music playing as well as a pool bar.

The garden area is very nice with water features and chairs. We enjoyed coffee back there in the am and ice cream from the boardwalk at night. One evening they had live music back there.

The room was a very nice size with a side view of the ocean. Very nicely decorated. I will saw that it did have a slight must smell when we used the AC but we were fine with it for a few days. Every day they provide 2 bottles of water which is nice

Parking hack: one block down past Berkeley on Sunset use ParkMobile and it’s $1 a hour from 9-2am so only $17 for 24 hours, versus $45 or $60 at the hotel. And you never need to move your car.

We needed a room for a single night on a holiday weekend and this was the only one near the beach that didn’t require a 2 or 3 night minimum stay. We booked a standard room and when we arrived they upgraded us to an ocean view. The room was clean and very comfortable. The location at the beach and the boardwalk was perfect. The valet parking was pricey at $45, $65 for larger vehicles and SUV’s. They also have a $25 facility charge for amenities like the pool which we seems to be pretty common with a lot of hotels these days.
