My son's wedding venue was nearby in Belmar and we booked rooms at The Empress for the weekend for our guests. It was a great choice. We were able to have a welcome gathering in the lobby and the location is great for any local activity. DOUG especially - but all of the hotel staff - was extremely accommodating. He helped with everything from repairing a necklace for one of my guests - to helping with emergency seating for the beach ceremony. ALL our guests kept talking about how wonderful the weekend at the Empress was ! In fact a group of us are planning to book again. It is a fun, comfortable and very convenient hotel. Doug and the Empress will definitely be seeing us again

Well actually with Asbury rapidly changing, there are better options but if you're coming here for a gay-old time...this pool is the place to be. Small, and ever so slightly still tragic, vibes are still down to earth and fun. Mykonos this is not. But it's a helluva lot better than when I first came here 10 years ago. I don't know how much the cover charge and the cost of coming to the club and pool are when you don't stay here...but it would be interesting to compare if it's really worth staying here just to save on these charges. My guess is it's not. You and your gay besties don't HAVE to stay here for a weekend in Asbury. You can glam it up at the Asbury Hotel or glam it down at some run down motel/B&B/airbnb and still have a fun night at this pool and club. It's way too pricey just for the scene if that's all you're looking for. Just come at night.

I arrived at the hotel without a reservation first, because I wanted to view it before booking. It looked decent and was oceanfront, so I booked from my car and checked in moments later. The room was clean and updated, the view was remarkable and the staff was exceptional! The two women and one gentleman that I spoke to at the front desk were friendly, informative, and professional. They made me aware of some fun on-site activities, including drag queen bingo, which was a blast. I would definitely return!

When NYC turned steamy at the end of June, we found the cool getaway we needed at The Empress. The hotel is as close to the sand and surf as it gets in Asbury Park, and all of the ocean-facing rooms have balconies, with open side views down the entire beach and boardwalk, and sea breezes that almost made us forget that we were in the middle of a heat wave. During a week when the mercury hit 97° F, we never needed a/c to sleep (both the a/c and heat both work fine for those who want them), and walking the beach after sunset, we were glad we had ultimately decided to pack the sweatshirts we felt silly for bringing. Inside, rooms are pretty standard, though that standard here means amply-sized, clean, and comfortable – especially the beds; we both slept better here than at any time since the start of the pandemic. Staff was very approachable and responsive, and, with restaurant hours still varying a lot during the week, Kris was especially helpful steering us towards good food. So were some of the folks at the Empress' outdoor pool/bar, which attracts a friendly blend of Asbury Park locals and hotel guests during the day. There is no shortage of tasty options around town (note to self: Purple Glaze Donuts), yet the happiest dining experience of our trip occurred when a group turned us on to TJ's Pizza during their poolside birthday party; when someone from Jersey offers to share their favorite slice, you know it's gonna be good.

I cant say enough nice things about the Empress Hotel. It was an absolute pleasure staying there over the years and in particular a couple of recent weekends in June with my dog ,Zev. We had such an amazing time coming out of Covid and finally getting out and about. Not only is the hotel in a wonderful location and very clean and the rooms are great. BUT what really made the trip is the wonderful wonderful staff ,who went above and beyond to make sure my stay was AMAZING . I would like to thank the excellent hospitality of Doug and Christine who really make you feel so comfortable and at home. They did everything to make not just my stay epic and memorable but they made my pup feel great too. He gives 4 paws up ! I can’t recommend the Empress enough if you are traveling to Fun Filled Asbury Park and traveling with a dog.
