The hostel looks nice in the photos, but pretty run down in person. We had a private room that resembled a cell. The bathroom was still dirty from a previous guest, the bed sheets were old and nasty, the hostel advertises 'towels provided' but left only a single towel large enough to dry your hands. Don't expect any atmosphere at this place (check out the date of the last positive review). This hostel feels like it has been pretty much abandoned. You might be near a metro station but you're away from everything else. My partner and I have travelled all around the world and stayed in hostels across Europe, Asia and South America. We are used to the low-cost hostel experience and would still rate this as one of the worst. We had booked for 4 nights but left the same day we arrived (yep, we hated it that much). The person on reception had insisted we pay on arrival, so we had to hand over money before we had seen any of the rest of the hostel. As this place only handles cash payments, we had absolutely no recourse when we actually found out what the hostel was like. They kept our money and we found a better place to stay. We loved every other hostel we stayed at in Colombia, so this was a total exception. Medellin has plenty of better places. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

I’d recommend this hostel if you want to lay low for a while. It’s cheap and relatively comfortable... and empty. I turned up yesterday to a place that’s poorly signposted; it’s kinda just looks like a regular house along the street. I was allocated a shared room, but was sharing with no one. I’m a solo traveler and this is incredibly unsuitable for me as I want to meet people. I was able to have a decent shower in the only bathroom in the area I was in. I’d imagine it’d get difficult to share when there are lots people staying. There was no toilet paper during my whole stay. I wish I’d looked at the date of the last positive reviews, maybe I would’ve booked elsewhere.

After traveling for 4 months, I'm glad I found this hostel. Like it says, it felt like a home away from home. I ended up staying 1.5 months here and I have nothing but good things to say about Yellowhouse, its owner Vincent, and his two dogs, Tomas and Mathias. First, the breakfast is by far the best spread I've had in South America. There are eggs which you cook yourself which in my opinion is a great idea. Nobody knows how I like my eggs except for me. Bread and in some cases homemade bread baked by Vincent himself (his bread is out of this world). Milk and cereal, coffee, fruit, and avocado if Vincent can find ripe enough avocados of the good kind (not the big creamy South American avos). The environment of the hostel is super chill. This isn't a party hostel so if you're looking for that, I'd recommend Poblado. However there were some chill nights with beers and card games with the other guests. Full kitchen is available for your use. You also get a key to the front gate so you can come and go as you please without having to wait. I stayed at a hostel in Poblado which had the employee having to open the door every time you came in and out which was super annoying. Uber ride to Poblado is around 12,000 col pesos which is super cheap in my opinion. There's always hot water and the WiFi was by far the best I've had in South America. The metro station Floresta is just a hop and a skip away (about 3 minute walk) and Laureles which has good local nightlife is about 20 minute walk. I walked there and back several times without any issues. The area is relatively quiet and I never felt unsafe. Grocery store and Mercado America (fruits and veggies) are a short walking distance. So if you're looking for a great hostel, superb WiFi, and the best damn breakfast in South America, than this is the place for you. Can't beat it for the price.

We really enjoyed our stay at Yellow House Hostel. It is not on in the party area of Poblado which suited us and is a great place to unwind and relax. It is about a 2 minute walk from Floresta metro station so it was easy to get downtown and is only about a 25 minute walk to Comuna 13. We enjoyed a really good spread for breakfast for just 2 mil pesos each and Vincent was very helpful when we needed advice and when we needed medicine from the pharmacy. Would definitely recommend if you like somewhere quiet and relaxing.
