Let us preface our review by stating that we have stayed at many, many properties across 6 continents - from $12/night hostels to $900+/night luxury resorts and 5-star hotels. That said, we absolutely loved the Hotel Dann! We completely realize that it is not the newest nor the most luxurious hotel in the world, but it offered everything we wanted in a lovely location and at a great price.
First of all, the Hotel Dann is located right on the beach, and we had a beautiful balcony overlooking Playa Bocagrande where we sat in the mornings enjoying the lovely views while drinking our coffee.
Our room (#404) was very nice, not elegant, but very spacious and nice with a sparkling clean bathroom, a comfortable bed, a sofa and chair sitting area, and large glass doors opening up on the beachfront balcony just above the pool!
Not only did we enjoy our room, we loved sitting out by the pool as well, and we very much enjoyed the breakfast each morning. We loved the large variety of Colombian food each morning at breakfast and having the dining room staff explain the dishes to us. Everything was plentiful and delicious.
We also felt very safe the entire week as security is aware of all of the entrances and guards all of the comings and goings at the hotel.
The thing we enjoyed most about Hotel Dann was indeed the staff. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff (Carmen) greeted us warmly, and it seemed as every employee of the hotel constantly wished me a happy birthday. It was quite a special treat to have a birthday cake delivered to me poolside on my birthday by Albert!
We love the Hotel Dann so much that we had tears upon leaving, as the staff gave us hugs while we walked to our taxi. If we do indeed return to Cartagena, we will certainly consider only the Hotel Dann. Thank you for a wonderful birthday week!

Had a king room with ocean view. The staff were excellent. All necessary Covid precautions were taken. The staff as well as guests were masked in common areas, our temperatures were taken daily, and the entire place was constantly being sanitized.
The room was kept spotless by housekeeping, and they clearly took pride in their work. The front desk folks spoke excellent English and security was cheerful and extremely helpful with directions.
The breakfast was also top notch. I am sure meal service is being impacted by COVID, but the fruit, coffee, egg dishes and bread selections were much better than I typically get.

Close to restaurants and stores + professional and friendly staff. Rooms are clean with all amenities and hotel restaurant has good food + wait staff is very accommodating. Can cab to the historic district in about 20 minutes for about $4-$5

I picked this hotel due to it being one of the only options that had direct beach access and provided beach seating. I knew that the beaches in Boca Grande were nothing special but I had hoped for some relaxing tanning time on the beach. The hotel does provide “chairs” but they are flimsy plastic chair that are more meant for table seating,no loungers,and you can sit in the sun or under a plastic tarp that was more like a garbage bag attached to string and wood poles. The part of the beach the hotel is on is not as nice as some of the other beach areas. Although there are massage ladies and vendors if you tell them no they do stop bothering you. The pool was eh with uncomfortable lounge chairs, no padding. There was drink and food service by the pool the waiters, bell boys and security staff were all very nice. The rooms and decor was very dated and although we asked to be near our children’s room we were placed 12 floors below. I would recommend staying in the walled city since most of the good restaurants and activities are there or if you want yo stay in Boca Grande pick a hotel with a nice pool and lounge chairs and don’t worry about the beach access or sitting on the beach.

I went to Cartagena with my 17 yrs old daughter and stayed at Hotel Dann. We loved everything about this hotel. We stayed at the 8th floor Junior suit with an amazing view of the city and the ocean. The breakfast was amazing but favorite part was how friendly and helpful all the employees are. From the front desk , restaurant, security, cleaning crew… every single one of them are so polite and extremely helpful. I definitely recommend this hotel. The pool was amazing and the beach was beautiful. Thank you for providing this great experience.

Great beach-front location, ocean views, friendly staff, but sadly this old building is not maintained well. Air conditioning ducts are covered by mold and it smells like mildew. My girlfriend was having mold allergies after first night so we looked inside the AC vent... yuck! See photo. Also, one of only two elevators was out of service. The elevators stop at a landing area halfway between floors and you must use stairs to go up or down to the rooms. I don’t like to leave bad reviews but this was a headache. We checked out and went to a different hotel after our first night and hotel management is still trying to fight me about refunding the remaining 5 nights of my pre-paid stay. I would avoid this hotel unless you are ok with breathing mold and mildew.

Location was great, right beside the beach and easy walking distance to many restaurants in Bocagrande. Breakfast was included and the buffet selection was varied and tasty.
On our last day we checked out in the morning and stored our luggage for the day. I explained to the clerk at the front desk we were going to Playa Blanca for the day and asked if we could get some beach towels and she said no problem. She also suggested that when we return later that afternoon to get our luggage we could use the showers and change room beside the pool to change out of our beachwear. I thought this was great service considering that we were technically no longer guests. That kind of service will keep us returning to Hotel Dann.

The hotel was clean and staff was pleasant to deal with. Breakfast (which was included in the cost of the room) was good and the daily lunch specials were excellent. The gym was OK but could use additional equipment. For some reason the room thermostat was not working but maintenance kept coming to the room and telling us that the room will get cooler which it never did. We believe that the room temperatures are regulated by the hotel. The pool is nice but gets limited sun due to the tall building.
This hotel is located on a public beach, like most of the hotels, where vendors are constantly harassing you every 2-3 minutes. Very frustrating if you are going for some rest and relaxation. The area surrounding the hotel reminded us of a run down Miami. They recommended a local restaurant called El Muelle which was a rip off. We were charged $70 USD for late lunch (on the day we arrived) that was not appealing and tasted like yesterdays leftovers. You are better off eating at the hotel restaurant which is way better than any of the local establishments unless you take a taxi to other areas of Cartagena.

We just checked out today. We arrived to find that our room looked nothing like the photos. The place is old, furniture is outdated and leaves alot to be desired. We immediately requested another room. It was better but still not what the photos represent. The breakfast that is included is the same every day. Omelette station with about 3 ingredients, arepas, fish fingers, rice as the main dish and 3 types of fruit and 2 types of bread. The waiters are nice but the options are horrible . We opted to get our washed and folded too. I completed a form, put the clothes on the bed (as instructed) for pickup. They changed the prices for several pieces and didn't fold the clothes. I spent 30 minutes arguing with the front desk Manager Iveth only to end up spending $125.00 usd to have folded my own clothes. She wouldn't even offer a 5 or 10% discount for inconvenience. This is a dump and I'll never stay here again. Save yourself and go elsewhere.

The hotel itself was gorgeous. Our room and view was immaculate with an amazing ocean and city view. However, we paid extra to make our trip all inclusive, mainly to have all inclusive drinks but they out restrictions on when you can start drinking. We had to wait until 4pm every day and only had until 8 AND only beer and rum was included. We ended up spending way more drinking outside of those hours and buying our own liquor from exito (the convenience store across the street).
Also, as beautiful as the beach was, we were constantly harassed by the locals trying to sell us things on the beach. This made it more frustrating then enjoyable. I understand they are just trying to make a living but we paid to come there to relax not be harassed every second.
