The experience at intercontinental was amazing! it is very well located (especially if you want the best of both worlds; it is between the old city and Bocagrande), you have taxis available all the time. The personnel is very welcoming always offering to help you. Food is great, especially breakfast and rooms are very clean and comfortable. No noise at all and a good bed for an amazing sleep. My experience here was really good and makes you feel safe since they follow ALL the biosecurity protocols for covid-19. I guarantee this hotel does worry about its guests and security. I Totally recommend it!!!

If you are looking for an all around quality stay Inter is the way to go! The employees are helpful, provide great service, and are always pleasant to speak to. They also speak english if needed! Kanuu restaurant located in the hotel has a wide assortment of food, I was never disapointed(breakfast, lunch, and dinner). The pool overlooks the beach with an incredible veiw and excellent cocktails! Hope my reveiw helps :)

I am at this moment in Cartagena, we arrived from Bogota on Sep 27th.Pleasantly surprised with the hotel's biosecurity measures from the doorman, frontal desk, restaurant, pool, etc. My family an I feel so safe, besides that, there is an excelent service,Good local food, confort and People service. In the pandemic era it is an excelent 5 star hotel to Take a rest With my family.

This is a 3 star hotel and that’s being kind. I have no problem with 3 star hotels & I gladly stay in them. But, don’t act like you’re more than that, when you clearly are not! I only stayed here one night and that was more than enough. I’m glad I got to experience it because now I know not to return. I’m an IHG Spire member (which is their highest level in the IHG rewards program, less their Intercontinental Ambassador level) and I received no welcome whatsoever during my stay. The front desk staff merely checked me in, by taking my passport information and handed me a key and that was it. No one even offered to help me up to my room with my luggage. The view overlooking the ocean was nice and I did not notice my windows being dirty, as other reviewer’s have mentioned. I guess they clean them sometimes. The pool area is very dreary and there’s nothing welcoming about it whatsoever. I was there at Christmas time and the decorations were humdrum. I went down for breakfast in the morning and it was cramped and unappealing. I’ve actually stayed in the other two IHG locations in Cartagena and they were far better than this hotel. There’s a Holiday Inn Express in Bocagrande (which is OK) and also a brand new and modern Holiday Inn Express in the neighborhood of Manga (which is very nice). I would recommend both of those hotels over this one. This InterContinental hotel fails severely. Not one staff member stood out as being welcoming or professional. The security staff were very vigilant, which can be good or intrusive at times. Staying here was definitely a dull experience.

Response from IHG Service, Owner at InterContinental Cartagena De Indias
Responded Aug 4, 2020
Hello JimH_nyc, Thank you for being with us recently, and for being an IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite Member. We want our guests to have long-lasting and impeccable impressions, and I'm worried that you'll remember us otherwise. I'm sorry that the service you received from our staff was below par. I'm also sad that the cleanliness and issues at breakfast fell below your expectations. All we want is to satisfy our guests, and I'm concerned that our local management missed the opportunity to meet your expectations. I will make sure to let the hotel management know about your concerns about the necessary improvements needed. It may not be the kind of experience that you're expecting from an Intercontinental hotel. However, I'm still hoping that we can mend fences and give you the discreet luxury we usually provide. Regards, Dianne L. Case Manager IHGService

The hotel is located right on the beach with more than half the rooms facing the ocean. The beach front pool on the 3rd floor i believe which is the same floor as the checking lobby is great. The beach located right in front of the hotel is also convenient if you want to get massages and buy souvenirs. The beach is very busy with a lot of people offering to sell items such as beer and/or food such as oysters for example. For individuals seeking a more relaxed beach you can go south west to the beach facing westwards which is much more laid back from the hustle and bustle since most beach front properties are condos and not hotels therefore less touristy. Overall the hotel was good and you need to grab a taxi from the old town at night as it can get a little dark on the walk back. On the way back to the hotel there are police roadblocks that flag taxis and search individuals for drugs. A fine/bribe will be demanded upon not being compliant with the drug laws of Colombia. The rooms are clean and smell good and resemble the pictures already posted on TripAdvisor. In conclusion, I spent 5 days at Intercontinental and it was good for a big group of us with the pool but for smaller groups I would recommend a rental in Old City as it is much more charming.
