Detailed Reviews
Went for my daughter’s birthday and she had an amazing time in cartegena. The hotel was very nice and I felt extremely safe staying there armed security on premises, helpful staff that spoke enough English were communication wasn’t a headache. The room was clean and comfortable 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite. Anything that was requested was brought up to the room immediately, water pressure was great. The hotel is across the street from the beach, beach chairs and umbrellas are available for a very small daily fee. The beach staff will get you drinks and food and what ever u need. Jet ski available also. If you forgot to pack anything u can find it with just a 1 minute walk. Close to restaurants salons and a Starbucks on the same block. The Breakfast buffet was good options to keep u full until late afternoon, we never actually ate lunch after breakfast. Utilized the spa service, which my daughter enjoyed just be very specific with the service requesting, I recommend staying here I had a nice stay with no problems at all. Will definitely stay here again. And the price was affordable for all. They also have a spa service for kids, that comes with ice cream.

Sometimes you have this silly situation because you feel a hotel deserves five stars when they provide excellent service and the room is mad clean, but then your partner says "well the wi-fi coverage in the room wasn't too good, there was a lot of noise from the street when the balcony door was open, and the air conditioner was too loud and made the room too cold and you couldn't heat it again unless you turned it off, which meant you'd have to open the balcony door to let the air in but then it would be too noisy and I couldn't sleep"?
And you're like "well it's not like the hotel can do anything about the traffic on the strip is there? Of course they could pressure authorities to bang out bike lanes and provide electrical scooters, which clearly would benefit everyone, and it's kinda crazy they haven't done so already. And the air condition wasn't that loud, and you slept like a baby anyway. I agree on the wi-fi though, but that just meant we read more books, went for runs along the beach and did wholesome stuff instead. You just said on the flight back that it was a really nice hotel!"?
And your partner turns moody because you said this with a slightly degrading tone, and says something that spins the conversation into an argument and all of a sudden the air has soured and you're jabbing at each other until someone leaves and the other one has to write a hotel review alone?
Well, at least you'll get to give it five stars.
But then again, if you give it four you'll have some leverage when you find your partner for a hug.

+1
We went there end of January for a short trip. The hotel is located perfectly directly at the beach. The description was also very fair. Instead of partly sea view we had almost 80% sea view. Rooms were clean and big. The only weak spots were the only two elevators and the breakfast room which was very small and consequenty very loud. However, also here: Sea view. We were able to extend the checkout time to 4pm instead of 2pm for 50.000 Peso (20$). Also fair. Since the balcony is not protected and the rail is hip high, avoid leaving young children alone on the room!

I did my internship here back in 1982 and 83, had such a good memories about the service so when we were planning to stay a night in CTG to rest from our flight from NYC I booked a room here, what a mistake. Rooms are small and run down, AC it's not cool enough for the local weather, plan included breakfast so I went downstairs around 7 AM and walked all over the line checking what they were offering, asked questions, make a cup of coffee and went back to my room to wake up my husband, all this without a mask. When we went back around 9 AM i started ordering what i wanted from the buffet line and was asked to wear a mask, I told them i didn't have one and asked if they had any, at that moment i think it was the cashier walked towards us in avery threatening manner about the mask, I repeated that i didn't have one, so we were told we had to leave. It was the most embarrassing situation ever. I recommend them to post a sign that express that masks are required to enter (I went before without one and nobody said anything to me) or like in most places in USA they have a box of mask right next to the entrance for the customer convenience. The whole situation was so ridiculous and left my husband who is a US citizen with the idea that we were about to be beat up just because the agressive attitude of the hotel employee. Also the towels are horrible rough, it feels like you are drying your sunburn body with sand paper! The general attitude of the hotel employees about your complaints is none, they don't show any concern about you not been happy with the hotel services, so I would never go back to that place, and just be aware, if you are expecting a 5 starts hotel service, its not gonna happen, maybe you would get the of a 2.5 or 3 stars maybe.

We travel as a family to Cartegana first time. Hotel was a recommendation through from our friends. I remember her words to words” amazing food, and so reasonable( 10$ lunch, diner like 20$) We did not eat any of food because our daughter has severe allergies. She only had 2 french fries and soda. At check out we pay 47$ for 2 fries and the soda. I asked why is too much. Reception people ( by the way they are no fluent in English) said “ you also drink imported water in your room???? I said yes we did but there was no sign in the room this “import bottle is 9$(small size). Anyway make a short story. It bothers me so much that mentality “ they are foreigners let them pay the highest amount.
We had a lunch in Bora Bora resort( one of their top hotel in cartegena) total bill was 120$. Also we had couple of drinks. Never recommend this place to anyone especially American tourists.

We stayed at Capilla for 7 days. The service is impeccable, every single employee is committed to a smile and a great interaction.
The food at The restaurant is one of the best in the city and affordable as well. The hotel is located by the beach, perfect location to enjoy the energy of Bocagrande. You will remember their names: Ketty, Dave, Tania, Carlos, Wilson, they will all Make your stay the best in Cartagena.

Ridiculous rules in the hotel. And they provide a coffee machine but we found out that we must be present when coffee pods delivered as you are charged for each coffee pod WTW? We were to have an early excursion and they had volunteered to have a cold breakfast delivered to our room at 5:30 am. Never arrived, apparently we were supposed to go down to the front desk in our pajamas and ask for our cold breakfast! Terrible communication with staff. And language was NOT the problem as one of us is more than fluent in Spanish. I’d give it a 2 in rating.

Hotel Capilla del Mar is an excellent choice for those who seek a quality experience without paying exorbitant prices. This hotel offers exceptional value for money, standing out for its modern and well-maintained infrastructure. Top-rated service; everything I requested was met immediately, including an iron and the use of a meeting room, showing attention to detail and staff readiness.
I travelled with my family and we found the hotel very comfortable and suitable for our needs. Although not a five-star hotel, its quality and services resemble those of a four-star hotel, without the costs associated with more luxurious establishments. The location is excellent, allowing easy access to different points of the city. Breakfast is varied and of good quality, which adds additional value to the stay. In short, the Hotel Capilla del Mar offers a very good experience.

We stayed 5 nights at this wonderful hotel it is in Bocagrande. We had a wonderful Jr suite with a ocean balcony and view. The room was in excellent condition and nice sized. The only thing is the wonderful closets are not geared for long dresses or jackets. I would just change that. The WiFi also is tricky coming and going. The breakfast was wonderful they had many options and can make to order. I like all the things we had there. The best is the concierge service he was helpful and offered us both Spanish and English maps of the walled city and then helped plan our day there. He explained how to travel by bus and where are stores located.
Second street has shops and restaurants along with Covid testing place and western union all close on the block you can walk along 2 street and fine great places to eat. You catch the bus of 3 rd street and it is a quiet street with a few restaurants and bakeries.
We will stay there again in the future.

The hotel is ideally situated in the vibrant Bocagrande district, with a range of nearby restaurants, bars, and shops along the bustling Carrera 2. Our room on the 18th floor was spacious and comfortable, boasting a balcony with an impressive 90-degree view of both the beach and the Caribbean Sea. Breakfast was exceptional, offering an extensive selection of fresh fruits, juices, cereals, breads, and jams, as well as a hot breakfast prepared to order right in front of you. And the coffee—simply unforgettable! We even discovered the brand (in a red packet) and bought several kilos at a local supermarket on Calle 12 to enjoy at home. We’re still savouring it, and it should last until we return to this delightful hotel next year.
The restaurant, with its open windows, perfectly captures the tropical atmosphere, allowing a refreshing sea breeze to flow through, aided by overhead fans. The dinner menu deserves special praise; every dish, from starter to dessert, was a five-star experience. Each plate was beautifully presented, almost too artistic to eat, prompting us to take photos of every course. The service was impeccable—elegant yet friendly and attentive.
The hotel also features a rooftop pool with panoramic views, complete with sun loungers, tables, chairs, and a bar offering a selection of drinks, cocktails, and light snacks.
All the staff were exceptionally polite, always smiling and willing to help. Ariel, the head concierge, was especially helpful during our stay. Being our first time in the city, he ensured we had safe transport when needed and provided excellent recommendations on where to find authentic local music and dance.
We’re already counting the days until our next visit, and this time we plan to stay twice as long.
One final note: despite our early arrival, the hotel graciously allowed us to check in at midday, which was much appreciated after a long journey from Montevideo.
