Hotel Casa San Agustin enjoys acclaim for its romantic ambiance and historic allure, with guests often swept away by the live music and luxurious setting. The staff's professionalism and attentiveness are frequently lauded, enhancing the experience of staying within the walled city's heart, where culture and cuisine are just steps away. Casa San Agustin in Cartegena is a vey boutique hotel. Food was good. Service was good. Rooms are dark. Pool area is too small (for high season anyway). Family of 3 stayed in 2 rooms. Room 107 is too tiny (especially the bathroom) even for one person. Also, nothing special about this part of the hotel. Room 206 is lovely, huge (although still dark) and this part aid the hotel is another world with lovely lounging areas, self- serve coffee bars and honor bars. Very nice. A very nice touch was the gifts delivered every night with turn down service in addition to the sweet treat, e.g., straw clutch, cologne/room fragrance (?), woven small box, bottle of rum, Colombian coffee, etc., etc., etc. LOVED all of our surprises. Good service, very pleasant staff.

My major complaint is that the towels in this hotel were the thinnest, roughest and dingiest towels I have ever encountered in any four or five star hotel anywhere in the world. And I have visited 27 countries on 5 continents. They actually were uncomfortable to use and were downright painful after one day on a boat. Seriously, these towels are shockingly bad. And so dingy that they didn’t even look clean. They must be replaced ASAP! Simply not acceptable for any class of hotel, but especially this one!

We were welcomed with smiles and cold drinks as we entered through the huge wrought iron gates into the atrium of this glorious property. The hotel entry provided a welcoming calm and was simply awesome, literally. The restoration, decor and attention to detail throughout was like walking back in history. The rooms were stunning. Our suite’s sitting room, being an internal room, was a little dark for my liking but they happily provided another floor lamp which made it possible to sit and read in the comfy chairs. The bed and the bathroom huge and simply luxurious. There was a narrow spiral staircase up into the room which I found enchanting but others with any physical disability may find a little challenging. Staff were efficient and nothing was any trouble. They had a free “coffee hour” in the afternoon which I found amusing. It was simply a Nespresso machine and pods which the staff member happily “Nespresso-ed” for you. I thought they probably should have provided a proper brewed coffee machine if they were going to offer this service. Especially in one of the coffee capitals of the world. However, the free little petit four treats provided were delicious! The pool was fabulous, the bar great and food excellent. Yes, it was expensive staying here but we were treated like royalty and felt like it. Great location too. I’d happily recommended it to someone who wants privacy from the outside world in luxurious surroundings.

The service at Casa San Agustin is unmatched. The staff become familiar faces during your stay (thank you Jesse for the fantastic introduction when we first arrived). The bed is incredibly comfortable and the bathroom is gorgeous and spacious. It was walking distance to all the restaurants and activities we wanted to do during our trip to Cartegena. It is a very safe location, but also felt extra secure with the constant presence of a security guard at the entrance to the hotel.

Breakfast was included in our stay, including a mimosa bar with fresh juices. And we enjoyed the different treats every night with turndown service. Between the pool, plants, and colonial architecture the hotel is simply gorgeous. Would absolutely recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay here again.

Casa San Agustin has to be one of the most wonderful hotels I’ve ever stayed in. I’ve travelled to over 100 countries and stayed in hotels all over the world and I absolutely loved this one.

From the moment I stepped in the front gate I was greeted with genuine warmth and the highest levels of professionalism and courtesy. Carlos at concierge always greeted every guest with a smile and happy nature, Katherine at front desk was the epitome of class and a warm check in welcome and every staff member in the attached restaurant wanted to ensure you had the best experience you possibly could with every meal and sitting.

Casa San Agustin is in a great location, central to everything and a short walk to all the major sights. The pool is exquisite, in the middle of the courtyard surrounded by colonial style walls and feels of being an old aqueduct and historical home.

Rooms are expansive with a lovely small terrace to read and relax, fruit bowl upon welcome, lovely bath robes and slippers, huge tiled bathrooms, a separate lounge with coffee and tea and nightly turn down.

The hotel itself is beautiful. Three old houses now make up the renovated hotel and the architecture is simply stunning while retaining the old Spanish history of Cartagena. Beautiful artwork and decoration throughout the hotel, plenty of lounge areas to sit and relax, a daily tea and biscuit welcome hour, hotel bikes (I didn’t use these but it’s advertised) and an excellent concierge service for anything you might need.

I booked a private tour guide through front desk and absolutely loved it also, highly recommend.

A feast of a breakfast is included with your room rate at the attached restaurant Alma. The food is top notch, fresh ingredients, incredible flavours (all meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner) and excellent service. The best part is sitting in their small outdoor courtyard surrounded by the colonial walls, greenery and high beams. It feels of old grandeur.

The spa was wonderful also and can be found on the bottom floor of the hotel just off the pool.

I wish I had had more time in Cartagena just so I could continue to stay at this beautiful hotel! It’s 5 star service but with the earthy feeling of being a small boutique hotel. Loved my stay, thank you Casa San Agustin!

We stayed here as a couple for 5 nights on our mini-moon in Cartagena and I would easily recommend this hotel to anyone (as well as stay again myself!). It is centrally located in the historic walled city and you can easily walk everywhere without needing transportation. The front desk/concierge staff is extremely helpful. The concierge Brando assisted me with booking airport transfers, a tour, the Acasi beach experience associated with the hotel, and a photographer for couples vacation photos and delivered on all tasks with ease.

The hotel's signature scent smells heavenly. This is a great property for couples as it's small and romantic, especially in the evening when they have all of the lanterns lit in the common area around the pool (great ambiance). The housekeeping staff always had our room done twice a day regardless of our schedule changing every day as to when we were/were not in the room - they silently and efficiently always got the job done. The Acasi private beach experience was fantastic - so relaxing and enjoyable (the boat ride to and fro, however, is not for the faint of heart, so be sure to check the weather before embarking if you are anxious about rough seas).

5/5 stars, easily, would visit again!

This is a historic gem in the old city, well located in order to reach all sights and points of interest. Directly across the little street is the university, a great place to wander into and feel the great young academic vibe. The hotel is very private; the flow of visitors is discreetly and efficiently managed by the doormen. Very friendly and attentive staff; it's a pleasure to interact with everyone in the hotel. We had a beautiful 2 floor suite, 2 sleeping and bath areas - very clean and comfortable with plenty of amenities that would be expected from a 5 star accommodation. The pool is indoors and L-shaped, just a few meters from the reception area and is mainly for relaxing. There is a library room on the 2nd floor where one can have afternoon tea/coffee and little cakes. A solarium is on the top floor, with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and soothing views. The restaurant has an air-conditioned indoor area as well as a pleasant little courtyard for outdoor dining. The food is excellent; fresh, tasty, and well presented. During our lunch, it seemed that many Colombian patrons were enjoying their time there so the place is highly regarded by the locals. We unreservedly recommend this hotel and are planning a return visit soon!

This was my second stay at this hotel, after staying briefly over July 4th weekend in 2016 (and I wrote a review then too!) My first experience at Casa San Agustin was so memorable and lovely that I jumped at the opportunity to spend 5 nights there with my mother in February 2022. The entire stay was perfect from the moment my mother and I walked through the property’s gates. The vibe is understated elegance, relaxing, and not stiff. Funnily enough, I was put in the same room where I stayed in 2016. It was exactly the same and in excellent condition - high vaulted ceilings, a little Juliette balcony. It felt like I was starting a tradition.

As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is beautifully designed and maintained - I love the freshly cut flowers floating in bowls in the hallways and the hotel’s signature scent. The pool is lovely, and yes shady, but that is a pro and not a con after being in Cartagena’s often blistering sun and heat… it’s not intended for sunbathing (there is a roof deck w/ a bar and an outdoor shower specifically for that purpose).

Next, is the food. The breakfast here is on another level. I generally dislike hotel breakfasts as the food is generic and bland. That is NOT the case here. My mother and I both looked forward to this meal every day as the food was made to order, and not catering to a bland tourist palate. I tried a new item each morning and was not disappointed. The restaurant Alma is fantastic as is the bar, but breakfast with its concentration on fresh and flavorful items was the real surprise for me.

During our stay we were able to do two day excursions: rent a boat for a day out on the islands, and visit the hotel’s private beach. Both trips were coordinated through the hotel’s concierge and it was a flawless experience. We were lucky to be the only guests at the hotel’s private beach that day and it was singular experience. The staff at the beach were incredible and the cook made a lunch that rivaled the food at the hotel. It was a two course lunch I won’t forget (ceviche starter + fish, rice and tostones).

Lastly, we had massages and the hammam experience at the spa and it was truly a superb service.

Stayed one night in Cartagena and the best choice we made was Casa San Agustin! From the moment we reached, we were welcomed so warmly by the front desk staff. We had reached before check in time, and were told that though the room wasn't ready, we could Check In and use the hotel facilities.

The property is gorgeous. It's got a local Colombian feel as they have renovated a historic home. The old world charm has been retained & enhanced by beautiful furniture, plants and artifacts. They have retained some of the original walls as well.

The food at breakfast was a nice change from the typical hotel buffets. Everything is made fresh & hot & brought to the table. They even customized our meals as my husband is vegan and has food allergies. Fruits were fresh and breads came out warm and tasty.

Everything within the walled city is walking distance from this hotel, so it's a very convenient location. The hotel also offers free bikes that you can borrow to explore cartagena. We used them and covered most streets of the walled city as well as the trendy Getsemani neighborhood which is just outside.

The spa was wonderful too. The ambiance is amazing plus the massage therapists are very skilled. I would recommend it if you have spare time.

We had a deluxe double room, and it had everything you could need. We just loved it.

Wanted to give a special mention to Katherine, Stebun & Gladys at the reception desk. They are so friendly, yet so professional. We were so impressed. This has been one of our best hotel experiences among our travels worldwide.

The hotel is on the pricey side but my husband & I both felt it was worth it for the amazing experience we had. This was my husband's 3rd time to Cartegena & his first time at this hotel & he said it was the best time he's had out of the 3 trips here.

Not a good experience. I have never written a review in my life. But this place just wasn’t satisfactory. They put us in a cramped stuffy room with low ceiling. One tiny little window. Ceiling so low that if you were tall then you would get your head chopped off by the ceiling fan. The split unit air conditioner could barely keep the room cool. The ceiling fan squeaked and creaked and made a ton of noise— but we had to run it otherwise the room was too hot to sleep. Wore ear plugs which still couldn’t drown out that squeaky fan. I asked them to check the AC, but I doubt if they actually did. The first day house-keeping didn’t even come. Came back after being out all day and the room still hadn’t been cleaned by 5pm. So I had to go the front desk and ask them if someone could please clean the room. The next day housekeeping did come but there was still a hair ball left in the shower. I don’t know if it was our hair or a previous guest— but either way— this is supposed to be a nice hotel so there shouldn’t be hair in the shower, right? And the bathroom smelled really bad— as if someone had just taken a dump. Not an exaggeration. The dining area is nice, but the included breakfast is only so-so. Half the items we tried weren’t good (two items include waffles which are inedible). Sat around by the pool area for a bit every day — not a single time could I get any service (food/drink/etc). I occasionally did see folks with food or drink by the pool— and a waiter zipping by rarely— but I gave up on trying to get service. Another thing is that the concierge didn’t seem knowledgeable about Rosario Island excursions— only recommended either their own private beach option — which was gonna be $700-750 for two people — or one other option that had no beach (and “isn’t good for swimming?!”). Had no other suggestions/recommendations. I was hoping they could be more helpful since it’s a bit of a cluster on the streets of Cartagena with people trying to sell you a million different excursion packages. Luckily we had a friend at another hotel who’s concierge gave them some good options for a beach/island excursion. One last thing— one night I called the concierge to see if they could help with a restaurant reservation. He said he would check and call me back— never called me back. Ok so that’s that. The staff members here actually were very nice, by the way. But I certainly would never go back or recommend this place.

We stayed at Casa San Augustine for a week in September. It is the most beautiful boutique hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We stayed in premium suite room 203 and if you are lucky enough to get that room you will be in love as well. It has high ceiling, canopy bed, a beautiful large bathroom and a outside garden sun deck with soaking pool. I can’t brag enough about that room. The resturant Alma that’s connected to the hotel is delicious. The concierge staff is top-notch and professional. We didn’t want for anything. From the turn down service every night with water and a sweet treat, the 5pm tea time on the 2nd floor, the amazing pool and not to mention this hotel only has 30 rooms so it’s never super crowded.

Let me give special thanks to some of the staff that made our stay exceptional! David and Katherine was apart of our concierge staff. They helped with dinner recommendations and reservations, excursions, car service, spa appointment and a very special surprise my love had set up through them to surprise me.

Carlos and Luis were amazing; Carlos was always around to help out when needed and Luis went with us to their private beach/island as a excursion and made sure we had a amazing time.

Natalie was our bartender and we have never had a better tasting caipirinha before hers. That’s all we drank. Lol

Brahayn and the wait staff at Alma was amazing. They greatest us by name each morning and remembered what we liked to eat.

We would highly recommend this hotel and we are definitely coming back next year!

Do you offer transportation to/from airport?
Answer from PhileasFoggontour
Medellin, Colombia2,127 contributions193 helpful votes
Yes they do. They will send a regular car for $25. It’s not a bad service but the problem is that Cartagena airport has no waiting area for hire cars so the driver will meet with you outside take you around the corner and wait while he fetches his car - generally one of the white tourist taxis (this is not just CSanA all big hotels do this) . In reality it’s probably slower than the regular (tiny) taxis from the taxi rank which will cost you around $5. They also have an executive service which is $80. I love the hotel, but as the journey is at most 15 minutes that does seem extreme. On the return the white taxis stand outside and will take you back to the airport for around $10. I am sure that the hotel would like to provide a better service but as the airport doesn’t really accommodate hire cars that well they are pretty stuck. My advice would be to go for the $25 option. It works, Colombian taxis are small. The white tourist taxis are generally Renault Dusters.

I wouldnt say it is dead...but it is vastly different than the atmosphere of the past. Certain it will pick up once things settle down. Still a great place to sit down, have a glass of wine and dine on some good food!

Wow - that's a great question and a great idea. My guess is yes you would be able to do that. I do not know for sure, but it is worth a try. I know the restaurant is open to customers who are not hotel guests, and there is also a poolside bar. So I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. You could always ask at the front desk to make sure.

I totally agree with the comments previously made....if nothing else this hotel PRIDES itself on customer service. I've stayed there on two occasions and had absolutely no booking problems.
